The battle spilled across the playground, tearing apart everything that made it a school. Echoes warped and multiplied, glitching in and out of phase with reality.
Reggie, now in his Alt-Scientist form, set up an emergency device: a Containment Beacon designed to force the Echoes to remain physical. "Keep them anchored so they're vulnerable!" he yelled.
Isabella absorbed the kinetic chaos around her and unleashed a powerful Aether Cannon, knocking back a horde.
Vanessa locked eyes with a massive Echo and used Marionette Mind to briefly puppet it—turning its attacks on its own kind before the strain forced her to release it.
Meanwhile, Candace and Linda moved like a storm-and-shadow duo. Candace phased into enemy lines, distracting them with feints, while Linda dropped precision lightning bolts from above.
"They're adapting!" Remy shouted. "They're learning from us!"
Jake grunted as he locked blades with an Echoborn—a new variant of Echo that resembled a twisted reflection of his own Draco-Wyld form.
"They're copying our powers now too!?"
"They're mimicking metagenes," Reggie said, eyes wide. "This is bad."
Suddenly, the sky pulsed again.
But this time, instead of more Echoes, a singular entity stepped through the rift.
A tall humanoid figure, clad in fractured armor with static lines trailing off its body. Its face was a mirror—shifting between everyone in the group like a glitching screen.
It spoke in a garbled version of all their voices at once.
> "You shape reality... so shall we."
Jake stepped forward, wings flared. "Who are you?"
The entity tilted its head.
> "We are what happens when you defy the natural order. We are the backlash. We are... Reverance."
And with that, it lifted a hand, creating a massive energy pulse.
Everything froze for a split second.
Then it all exploded into chaos.

"We're gonna need backup—and a trip to a realm that fights fire with void."
