“What did you say to me?” I demanded, releasing my tight grip on the dragon’s cheeks to begin poking at them instead.
“I think I keep hurting you, Noa,” the child repeated, each word creasing with a lisp.
My hands halted, a frown etching into my forehead as I wondered if I had misheard him. Miu determinedly avoided eye contact, guilt written over his face. I paused for a moment, considering his words. To be honest, the dragon was right. Sure, I wasn’t the healthiest person in the world, but I had been managing just fine before Miu came into my life. Logically speaking, the young creature did, in fact, keep causing me harm.
“I wouldn’t blame you if you hated me,” he added.
“No, sweetheart, it’s not—” I began to refute before the child interjected once more.
“So, you don’t have to worry. I won’t kill anyone even if you abandon me.”
