Cherreads

Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Back in his room. I need to avoid that place, I can't deal with that thing. It seems my hunting would have to be during the day, assuming that thing only hunts at night.

The sun was rising in the horizon, he went to sleep and two hours later he woke up. Here in the wilderness sleeping was a luxury, people just rested their eyes lest they get robbed or there's a breach and they fail to respond fast enough.

He lit up a fire and roasted the remaining snake meat. Having tasted something so delicious, there was no way he was going back eating rats which means he has to hunt something today.

Done with his meal he picked up his gun and left for the forest. He went south to avoid the area with the big cat. He realised the part of the forest he was in had a lot of trees with bite marks.

The big boars came to mind. This is good, if this is the boars territory hunting them will not be that hard. He was wrong, in the past 3 hours he had found over 6 of those big things.

However their hides were incredibly durable, his bullets did not work at all. He had made sure to go to the loudest part of the forest which also happened to be very far from the town centre.

This was to reduce the chances of Tiger hearing the gun shot, he doesn't know how high his senses are but he did not want to risk it.

This part of the forest was home to a type of bird with white feathers and long pointy beads. They had nothing remarkable about them except the loud grating noise they make.

They were annoying, not only because they were loud but they would also try to sneak up on him to impale him with their beaks but they were fast enough to retreat and use the foliage as cover before he could shoot them.

They weren't large compared to most avian beasts he had seen with only a wingspan of about 2 metres. Their noise seem to work as an alarm for other creatures making hunting harder for him.

However he would rather face those annoying things than risk Tiger finding him. Realising he couldn't kill them with a gun he decided to use a different strategy.

In the past few hours he realised that the boars only ate one type of tree bark and the tree grew a type of red berries. The stupid loud bird also likes those berries and he couldn't blame them.

He tried one and they were delicious and contained a little bit of blood essence. With that in mind he harvested every Berry in the surrounding hundred of metres which angered the birds even more.

He dug a deep hole and made wooden spikes which he then put in the hole. He covered the hole with twigs and leaves. They were strong enough to withstand his weight and that of the birds and fruits but definitely could not withstand those large boars.

He waited, it took a few hours but eventually one showed up sniffing the air. It approached the hole without any vigilance. It seems it was not intelligent enough to realise it was a trap.

The birds screeched and cried in warning but the boar did not mind them. He watched with anticipation, one foot in and the cover did not fall but when it placed the second foot it broke.

The boar fell into the hole head first. That what he wanted, with it facing down it had no way to get itself out of the hole or even move. The only waste were the spikes.

They broke on impact without causing any demage but he should've known that, they can withstand bullets, why would wooden spikes hurt them?.

He jumped into the hole and collected the berries. The boar was groaning and huffing trying to bite him but it could not even move it head.

He shot it in the head a few times but the bullets just bounced off it bark like hide. Shit, he cursed and took out his knife. With a large swing he tried to stab it neck but the knife bounced off.

He realised the issue was not his strength but the knife was too weak to work here, if he put in too much power it might break or bend. He tried multiple times to no avail.

FUUUUUCK, damnit just FUCKEN STAB, he shouted with frustration as he swung his knife with all his strength and it went straight to the neck. He looked at the wound with surprise.

What..just happened? He asked but ofcourse nobody answered, he was alone. He pulled out his knife from the screaming boar and watched it bleed to death.

He watched the large thing and knew instantly he won't be able to bring all of this back home. The sun was already setting and he started skinning it.

With how hard the hide was skinning it was incredibly hard but fortunately like the snake it had imperfections. He traced the knife along them, it was still hard and took a lot of effort but he was able to do it.

He chopped it into pieces and placed them on it hide. He tried to drag the hide with meat and failed, well he was able to move it but it was slow, too slow.

He threw most of the meat, especially the organs into the hole and dragged the rest along with the berries but before he left, he shot one of the annoying birds and killed it.

These things did not have high defence they were just fast and had that disorienting scream. Ofcourse this angered the others and they chased him but they were too cowardly to actually attack him.

They were trying to draw other predators to him but they failed because he arrived home safely. Tired after all of that he went to sleep for a hour.

After waking up he looked at the two dead beasts infront of him. Cutting up their heads he extracted the essence blood and the system notification came, his grin widened.
