As he pulled away and stared at her, she stared back. She looked flushed, completely and utterly flushed. He looked like a lion staring at his prey waiting for the right moment to devour
her.
The ringing didn't stop. It wasn't hers.
"You should take that." She said slightly out of breath.
"Pardon me." He said before excusing himself and pulling out his phone.
As the stranger took care of his call, Kaitlyn stood there, her entire body weight resting on the counter while she desperately tried to even her breaths and return her body to normal.
Normal meaning not flushed, not as hot, without the goosebumps that had prickled her skin at his perfect kisses. It also meant a calm mind, a mind clear of all the dirty thoughts that swarmed her mind.
Her attempts to calm herself were hopeless, as long as the gentleman was still in this house, she didn't feel like herself even though she was doing something as simple as making tea.
"Kaitlyn." she heard him call her name making her turn around.
"I'm so sorry but I have to go." He stated apologetically.
"No, no, it's fine." She e said.
"Goodnight then." He said before grabbing his coat and helping himself out.
Kaitlyn just watched him until the door was shut. As the door shut she exhaled heavily, breathing out all the air she had no idea she was holding.
---
The young woman woke up feeling exhausted. Much like every other morning. She had a long day of interviews today as well, just like the day before. She got up from her bed and then dragged her feet out of the room and to her kitchen.
"Well if it isn't the vixen." Kaitlyn heard Kristy, mocking her.
"Good morning Kristy." Kaitlyn corrected her. Her roommate could rarely start her morning with a good morning. She always preferred a snarking comment or a weird comment on Kaitlyn's demeanour, like "You look like hell," "Didn't know a train hit you in your sleep," or "Maybe don't always sleep on your face, Kaitlyn."
The comments always made Kaitlyn reevaluate and ask herself why on earth she got a roommate in the first place, then she would come to the same conclusion, she's too broke to afford the rent by herself.
"So Gregory?" Kristy questioned further. The smaller woman had convinced herself that Kaitlyn and her best friend were sexually involved, she never missed the opportunity to hint at it.
Kaitlyn quirked an eyebrow in confusion as she poured herself a cup of coffee, confused at what her roommate was hinting at.
"Your guest last night? I thought I heard someone, but I was sure when I saw the two tea cups." Kristy explained, taking a sip of her coffee.
Only then did the events of last night come rushing back to Kaitlyn She had almost forgotten all about the handsome stranger who came up for tea.
"Uhh... I didn't get his name." was all she could muster after swallowing her warm coffee.
"Hold up." Kristy interrupted with a chuckle.
"You had a guest come up here for tea last night. And you did not get his name?" She questioned, shocked by her roommate.
Kaitlyn wasn't one to invite strangers up for tea. "Yes, we met at the bar, and he offered me a ride. I asked him to come up for tea, but he had to leave abruptly after a call. I didn't catch his name, but he caught mine." Kaitlyn explained briefly, trying not to make it a big deal.
Although telling from the look on Kristy's face, it was going to be a big deal. "What's the time? I have an interview by 8:30," Kaitlyn asked, beating Kristy to say another word on the subject.
"Past Seven," Kristy said after a glance at her phone.
"Alright, time to get ready," Kaitlyn said before drinking the last of her coffee and heading for her room. She was dressed in a dull outfit. She had concluded that she didn't need to 'dress to impress.' she still wouldn't get the job.
She wore a grey pencilled skirt that hugged her waist but barely did her body any favours. Which was matched with a white dress shirt and a brown blazer. Her shoes were as boring; as black flats.
She was currently waiting on the 16th floor at Rollex Enterprise, waiting for them to call her in and ask her questions. Questions she would answer perfectly, yet still never get a callback.
Kaitlyn sighed, getting bored of waiting. She glanced at her watch.
25 minutes, she's been waiting for 25 minutes. If she didn't keep to time they would never even reschedule.
"Ms. Davids." She finally heard her name being called.
The blond woman from earlier who had told her it would be just a minute, stood in front of the office and she would have to walk in any second now.
Kaitlyn stood to her feet, clutching her bag tightly, not out of nervousness but mere reflex.
"Mr. Lennox will see you now," she said with a tight-lipped smile. Kaitlyn nodded and thanked her then made her way to the office. She walked into the spacious office, Mr. Lennox's chair backed her and she rolled her eyes at his 'impeccable manners.'
"Good morning Mr Lennox." Kaitlyn greeted almost as if she were announcing her presence.
The chair turned around, facing Kaitlyn. However, the person in the chair couldn't be identified by the young woman. His head was faced down at what looked like documents in his hand. All Kaitlyn could single out were his reading glasses that rested on the bridge of his nose. She stood there patiently, waiting for him to finally acknowledge her.
"Pardon me miss." she finally heard him say. His voice sounded all too familiar. It had an authoritative sound to it, despite him pronouncing an apology, it still sounded like an order. Not to get it wrong, the gentleman didn't sound too demanding; his voice sounded smooth, controlled, perfect even. Perfect would be the word Kaitlyn would use.
Finally, Mr Lennox got to his feet, placing the documents in his hand on his glass desk. Then Kaitlyn saw his face and she could swear that her heart stopped. She didn't want to believe it was him from his voice alone, she had convinced herself in seconds
that she had missed the stranger from last night so much that she was now hearing his wonderful silky voice everywhere.
However, standing in front of her behind the desk was none other than the mysterious man from last night. His demeanour gave nothing away, yet he was just as handsome. This time, in his spacious office, he looked even more handsome, and he fit in with the scene rather than her small apartment.
