Chapter 86 - Awake

After trying for a while, Aiden began to enjoy the unrestrained feeling of being out of his body. He floated around, and when he wanted to go fast, he could fly hundreds of meters into the air in the blink of an eye. When he wanted to go slow, he was like a feather in the wind, not landing for a long time. Copper walls and iron walls were like decorations, and gravity had no effect.

After playing freely for a while, he saw that Kayle's room was still lit, and he immediately wanted to see her. So, with a thought, he came to the outside of her door.

To his surprise, there was a sound coming from the room.

"You're awake, Queen Kayle!" It was Ophiel's delighted voice.

Kayle is awake? Now?

Aiden immediately entered the room. He was now a spirit, so he didn't need to worry about physical obstacles at all. With one step, he passed through the closed door and entered Kayle's room.

Sure enough, Kayle, who had been sleeping on the bed for ten days, had opened her eyes. She reached out and pushed aside the quilt. When she was awake, angels didn't need warm things. The holy light in her body was the warmest thing, so she wouldn't feel cold even in the bitter cold.

"How long have I been asleep?" she asked.

Aiden approached and looked at Kayle. Her complexion looked much better, but she still seemed a little listless. Her frowning made her look very weak. Her injuries this time were indeed very serious.

After pushing aside the quilt, Aiden saw the body wrapped in her pajamas.

Usually, Kayle wore that golden holy armor, so you couldn't tell what her figure was like at all. In fact, in all this time together, Aiden had only seen her take off her helmet twice, and she had never taken off her armor. But now she was showing her body without any defense—sure enough, her figure was better than Aiden had imagined.

It should have been, how could her sister, Morgana, have a D cup, and she, the older sister, only have a C?

Some boring gentlemen had once counted the sizes of all the female heroes in League of Legends—Miss Fortune topped the list with an F cup, followed by Sona and Ahri with 36E. But the last time he summoned a captain-type naval hero, Aiden chose Gangplank, the foot-scratching man. Thinking about it now, it was really a pity!

'Ah, what nonsense am I thinking!' Aiden despised himself a little.

"Today is the tenth day!" Ophiel replied.

"Yes, ten days," Kayle murmured.

Ophiel looked at her and pleaded in a low voice, "Queen, our power is now greatly suppressed. You must take care of your body and not work so hard anymore!"

Kayle glanced at her majestically, making her afraid to persuade her any further.

"I know what I'm doing."

"But—if we don't do something to restore our power, what will we do when we face more dangerous situations in the future? This time, just a beetle, a beast, and a mage almost..." Ophiel stuck out her tongue. Although she didn't finish speaking, her meaning was already clear.

Kayle was silent.

Ophiel continued to persuade, "Even if we don't use other methods, absorbing the power of faith is always possible, right? Queen, absorbing faith is a mutually beneficial thing for believers and us. I think we can do this. I'm afraid even Commander Aiden wouldn't object, right?"

Absorb faith? Hearing this, Aiden seemed to understand that Ophiel meant that they angels could gain power through the faith and worship of ordinary people. It was probably the same as those people in the church who believed in the Holy Light—if that was really the case, Aiden naturally wouldn't object.

Kayle said, "We angels do not rely on the power of faith. Faith is the easiest thing to be exploited. Any power mixed with utilitarian purposes can easily corrode our will. I have told you before that if we develop believers because the power of faith can enhance us, then it is not for spreading the holy light, but for pursuing stronger power—then we will eventually get lost."

Hearing Kayle's stern tone, Ophiel immediately dared not persuade her any further. Because she knew very well why Kayle and Morgana had fallen out in the first place—the debate about faith and order was a very important part of it.

Of the two sisters, Morgana firmly supported absorbing believers to spread the light of angels and allowing people to have free will and choice. Kayle was very opposed to this. She firmly believed that only laws were needed to regulate people's behavior and to maintain a just order with power.

In fact, it can't be said that one was right and the other was wrong. Anyway, the two sisters, whose opinions differed, eventually parted ways and even became enemies. In order to defeat Kayle, Morgana even chose to study dark forbidden magic and became a fallen angel.

Aiden listened from the side and felt that what Kayle said made some sense. In the Middle Ages, didn't the Holy See crazily persecute scientists because these servants of God believed that the "heresies" proposed by those scientists were blaspheming God? Religious fanaticism made believers blindly follow, regardless of the real right and wrong. Such people are most easily exploited by some with ulterior motives.

Seeing that the Queen's expression was unmoved, Ophiel had no choice but to change the topic and said, "Queen, after careful calculation, the millennium contract you made with the League is about to expire. If I remember correctly, we have spent more than nine hundred and eighty years in the ice. In another seven years, the deadline will be up. Should we return to the Eternal Kingdom then?"

There's such a thing?

Aiden was shocked. Didn't this mean that Kayle would return to her Eternal Kingdom in seven years?

What should he do!

Aiden became anxious. After spending so much time together, Kayle was very important to him, even like his shadow, he couldn't live without her anymore. Just like the last time in the blocking battle, when he encountered danger, he subconsciously shouted, "Kayle, save me."

If Kayle really left, he was afraid he would never find her again, right?

"Don't, don't go back!" Aiden hurriedly shouted. But he forgot that he was now in a spiritual state. Others couldn't see his figure or hear his voice.

"I know what to do." Kayle frowned, she was a little hesitant. Logically speaking, she should indeed return to the Eternal Kingdom when the contract expired, continue to be her angel queen, restore her true god status, and no longer have to shield a mortal from wind and rain, nor worry that any enemy could hurt her.

When the contract expired, she and the League of Legends would owe each other nothing, and everything would be as it should be.

But she was indeed hesitant. Kayle seemed to hear Aiden, the commander she was protecting with all her might, eagerly pleading with her not to go back.

'Is it a hallucination?' Kayle smiled mockingly, it seemed that the injury had made her weak!

...

The Broken Ridge battle—the one where Dalaran, Valoran, and Lordaeron joined forces to encircle Kel'Thuzad—made the allied nations realize the power of the Scourge once again: the death knights who could resurrect fallen soldiers, the terrifying spider demons and beetles they had never seen before, the ogres and snow monsters controlled by the Scourge, and the mysterious and powerful necromancers. All of this combined made them have to re-evaluate the threat of the Scourge.

As Aiden said, if the Scourge formed a large scale, then humans would not be able to resist it at all.

King Terenas was preparing for war and building ships. If Lordaeron really couldn't resist the Scourge, then he would have to follow the prophet's guidance and take the people to Kalimdor on the other side of the Endless Sea.

For some reason, the king always had an ominous premonition. He always felt that Lordaeron might not be able to withstand the Scourge's invasion, and perhaps they would eventually have to go to Kalimdor for refuge. Although the vanguard he sent had reported that there were large tracts of land suitable for farming and living, as well as very rich resources, Lordaeron was, after all, the homeland of mankind, the place where humans had lived for generations. In Kalimdor, everything would start anew.

Unlike Terenas's pessimism, his son Arthas seemed very positive. He worked very hard in training, and recently, Prince Arthas finally broke through that barrier and became a hero-level paladin! He felt an unprecedented powerful holy light, which made him full of confidence in leading the people to resist the Scourge and the expedition to Northrend.

He felt that his will was firm and that he would no longer be confused by the tricks of the dreadlord; he felt that his power was strong enough to deal with any enemy!

Arthas had wanted to participate in the previous Broken Ridge battle, but King Terenas believed that the number of troops in Garithos's army on the northern front was already sufficient and that there was no need to send more manpower. Who knew that due to various changes, the Broken Ridge battle was not a complete success. At this time, Arthas couldn't help but think: if he had been there at the time, he would have completely rewritten the outcome of the battle and won a glorious victory for the Alliance!

With the arrival of spring, the time for the expedition to Northrend was getting closer and closer, and he couldn't wait to represent the Holy Light and justice to punish the evil Scourge!

After the orcs sent a vanguard to Northrend, if everything went smoothly, then the Kingdom of Stromgarde would return to the Alliance. Of the countries that had previously withdrawn from the Alliance, only Gilneas and Quel'Thalas remained silent.

Terenas believed that the Alliance should make another effort, so he once again sent his most trusted messenger to Gilneas. Quel'Thalas was to be resolved by Dalaran—because Dalaran and Quel'Thalas had a deeper relationship, and the high elves did not have a deep friendship with Lordaeron. Terenas was also happy to see Dalaran take responsibility.

Archmage Antonidas took on this task with his own considerations: the high elf mage Dar'Khan Drathir had appeared in the previous Broken Ridge battle, and Kael'thas, who had returned to the high elf kingdom, had been silent. He and Aiden both agreed that something they didn't know about must have happened in Silvermoon City.

Under these circumstances, they both felt it necessary to understand the real reason. The high elves were, after all, a powerful ally. With their participation, whether it was the expedition to Northrend or dealing with other enemies, the Alliance's power would be greatly enhanced.

At a routine meeting of the Kirin Tor Council, this task was brought up: who should be sent to the high elf kingdom?
