Chapter 23 - A New Helper

Upon hearing this, Yui Yuigahama angrily puffed out her cheeks, like a hamster hoarding food for winter, took a fierce bite of her bread, and mumbled indistinctly.

"You're talking nonsense!"

Seeing Yui Yuigahama about to choke, Yotsuya Miko shook her head helplessly and handed her a bottle of drink.

"What are you saying? Swallow it first before speaking."

"Tha-thank you."

Yui Yuigahama took the drink and gulped it down, patting her chest as if she had just escaped a disaster.

"Phew... I almost thought I was going to die just now. I felt like I saw a ghost."

"There are no ghosts now."

"Huh?"

"Oh, nothing."

Yui Yuigahama had a carefree personality, so she didn't mind Yotsuya Miko's strange words. She just looked towards the corner of the classroom and asked curiously.

"Hey, where did Kano Yoruhoshi go today? Why can't I see him as soon as it's lunchtime?"

"Oh no!"

Hearing this, Yotsuya Miko was slightly stunned at first, then as if she remembered something, she suddenly stood up.

"Oh no, oh no, I completely forgot."

She didn't even bother to say hello to Yui Yuigahama and quickly left the classroom, heading to the open area between the teaching buildings.

Normally, this was where students ate their bento and rested during lunchtime.

But today, it was the opposite of its usual quietness, becoming very lively, with tables and chairs everywhere, and people holding banners and shouting promotional slogans through loudspeakers.

"Are there any students who want to join the Basketball Club? Basketball Club!"

"Does the Tennis Club have any new students who want to join? Our goal this year is to make a splash at the tournament!"

"Anime Fan Club!"

"Literature Club, are there any students who love literature?"

...

That's right.

This Friday's lunchtime was Soubu High School's club fair for newly enrolled students.

New students interested in joining clubs to enrich their extracurricular life and clubs looking to recruit new members were mutually selecting each other.

As soon as she arrived at the venue, Yotsuya Miko received enthusiastic invitations from several senior students.

"Student, join the Literature Club?"

"No, no, no, our Anime Fan Club is the best choice for a relaxed atmosphere!"

"Just a quick note, just a quick note, our Girls' Tennis Club's performance can compete with Shuchiin Academy. If we win the championship, it will add a lot of points for university entrance exams in the third year."

"Girls should play volleyball, join our Volleyball Club!"

"Join the Track and Field Club and sweat out your youth with us on the track!"

...

Facing the enthusiastic invitations from the senior students, Yotsuya Miko barely managed a polite smile, waving her hand to politely refuse.

"I already have a club."

"Is that so? What a pity."

Hearing that she had already joined a club, several senior students showed expressions of regret, shook their heads, and left.

Although official recruitment of new members only started today.

There were also clubs that were quick to act and urgently needed new members, secretly recruiting new students on the first day of school.

What a pity.

Passing through the somewhat crowded people, Yotsuya Miko looked at the slightly lonely club booth in the distance, which consisted of only one table, two chairs, and a banner that was clearly written temporarily with crooked handwriting. She sighed and slowly walked over.

"Kano Yoruhoshi, I'm here."

Kano Yoruhoshi, who was sitting behind the table playing with his phone, heard Yotsuya Miko's greeting and didn't even lift his head, just said faintly.

"You're here? Then sit down."

After Yotsuya Miko sat down, she surveyed her surroundings, then looked at the enthusiastic senior students not far away, and a hint of helplessness appeared in her eyes.

Compared to the senior students enthusiastically greeting new students over there.

The booth Kano Yoruhoshi set up, plus the banner that was fluttering in the breeze and whose ink had run...

Yotsuya Miko always felt that this didn't look like a club recruiting new members.

Instead, it looked like a charlatan setting up a fortune-telling stall.

Adding to that, the crooked words "Supernatural Quantum Mechanics Research Society" on the white banner.

If someone really wanted to join at this moment, Yotsuya Miko's emotion would not be joy.

Instead, she would want to ask if there was something wrong with their head.

"Kano Yoruhoshi, can we... really recruit people like this?"

Hearing Yotsuya Miko's question, Kano Yoruhoshi looked up and revealed a confident smile.

"Miko."

"Hmm?"

"You have to believe in the bond between you and me!"

Yotsuya Miko: "..."

She shouldn't have thought that she could communicate with Kano Yoruhoshi in a normal way.

If there was one highlight of this booth...

It was only Kano Yoruhoshi when he wasn't speaking.

Version T0 - Mute Kano Yoruhoshi.

Would there be any groupies who would come to learn about this club just to strike up a conversation?

Is there really?

Even if there were, recruiting such members wouldn't make much sense, would it?

Just as Yotsuya Miko was thinking this, a soft, flat, toneless girl's voice sounded.

"Is this the Supernatural Quantum Mechanics Research Society?"

Yotsuya Miko turned her head and saw a petite girl with long gray curly hair draped over her shoulders, wearing a white lab coat over her school uniform, glasses, and a blank expression on her face, standing in front of her.

Someone actually wants to know about this club?

Besides Kano Yoruhoshi, is there another master?

"Uh, yes, that's right."

Seeing that Kano Yoruhoshi had no intention of introducing himself, Yotsuya Miko quickly stood up, enduring the shame in her heart.

"This is the Supe... Supernatural, Quantum Mechanics, Research Society."

"Hmm."

The girl responded noncommittally, raised her hand to push up her glasses, and glanced at Yotsuya Miko.

"Do you understand quantum mechanics?"

"Uh..."

Yotsuya Miko thought that Kano Yoruhoshi came up with the club name, not her, so she could only honestly reply.

"This... I don't really understand."

The girl nodded slightly, then turned her gaze to Kano Yoruhoshi, who was sitting behind the table.

"Do you understand quantum mechanics?"

"I don't understand either."

The girl sighed, looking as if it was exactly as she expected.

"As expected... I was too naive to think that there would really be someone in school interested in quantum mechanics. Excuse me."

Just as she was about to turn and leave, Kano Yoruhoshi suddenly chuckled and said.

"Please wait, Rio Futaba."

"Hmm?"

Hearing him call out her name, Rio Futaba frowned slightly.

"You know me?"

"Of course."

Kano Yoruhoshi nodded and said with a smile.

"Please join our club."

Hearing Kano Yoruhoshi's blunt words, Yotsuya Miko couldn't help but show a complex expression, thinking, with this method, would she agree to join?

To her surprise, Rio Futaba pushed up her glasses and slowly said.

"Neither you nor she understands quantum mechanics, so you can't discuss topics I'm interested in."

"So, what benefits can I get from joining this club?"
