THE WATCHER: REVOLUTION
By Rapwizzy Debaron
Episode 13: The Cost of Becoming
---
Metal screeched like tortured souls.
Zarak-13 lunged forward, tearing apart the arena floor with its razored limbs. Jax slid beneath the oncoming barrage, sparks flying as his boots scraped molten steel.
But something was off.
His body—too fast. His mind—too cold. His heart—absent.
> "Omega Seed Level 2 engaged," whispered the AI voice in his head.
"Vital restraints removed. Morality dampeners offline."
Jax's eyes flared.
The world blurred as he leapt straight up, dodging the sentinel's spinning saw-blades mid-air. He kicked off the arm of a broken Original and launched himself at Zarak's chest.
CRACK!!
His punch dented the metal, sending shockwaves through the beast.
Zarak roared and retaliated—tendrils shot out, one latching onto Jax's arm, injecting a sickly black fluid.
Jax winced.
> "Error… biological decay detected…"
"Omega system conflict: Core identity collapsing…"
A memory flashed.
Blood.
A lab.
A scream that sounded like his own.
> "Don't activate the Omega seed—!"
"You're not ready, Jax!"
"You'll forget who you are…"
---
Meanwhile, Kira and Marek watched in frozen silence.
> "He's unraveling…" Kira whispered.
"We have to shut it down."
"He's not fighting Zarak. He's… becoming something else."
> Marek shook his head slowly. "Let him break. That's the only way he'll remember what they did to him."
---
Back in the chaos, Jax slammed into the ground, black mist pouring from his mouth. The veins in his arms turned gray, his bones clicking unnaturally as the Omega virus twisted his evolution.
> "You are not the boy," Zarak-13 growled.
"You are the weapon. You are ours."
Jax's voice replied—but it wasn't fully his anymore.
> "I am the fracture. I am the echo of your sin."
Suddenly, a massive surge of data-light burst from Jax's spine, forming a glyph that cracked reality like glass.
He vanished.
Reappeared above Zarak's head—holding two plasma blades.
SLASH!!
SLASH!!
CRASHHH!!
He chopped off one of Zarak's arms, then sliced through the chest plate, exposing wires, data cores, and… a familiar logo.
> "Project: WATCHER. Prototype 01."
> "Wait…" Jax blinked. "I've seen that symbol—on the walls of the place where I was—"
Suddenly—his legs gave out.
He screamed in pain.
Blood poured from his nose.
His own voice echoed back at him.
> "Do you want to live… or become the thing they fear?"
Jax looked up at the towering machine, at his broken arm, his splintering mind.
> "I didn't escape just to become another monster…"
The Omega Seed pulsed dangerously—like a ticking bomb in his veins.
---
Then… a girl's voice.
> "Jax! Don't give in!"
Everyone turned.
A hooded figure stood in the broken tunnel above the arena.
Eyes glowing violet.
She leapt down.
Landed beside him.
Tears in her eyes.
> "It's me—Alira. You don't remember me, but I never forgot you. I was there when they made you bleed. I was the one who stole your name back…"
Jax's breath caught.
Images—her smile, the night they escaped, her scream as he was taken.
> "Alira…"
Zarak reared back, cannons glowing red.
She stood in front of Jax.
> "If you want to kill him…"
"…you go through me."
