Chapter 1 - The Blood River Cradle

The Abyss, an infinite realm of chaos and death, where the concepts of good and evil is nonexistent, and strength dictated all.

Inside one of its main breeding realms flowed a crimson river that twined nigh endlessly into the distance.

This river was known as the River of Birth; it was the womb to almost all the demons who wreaked havoc and pollute all of existence.

Within its depths which was countless times shallower in comparison to its length floated tens of millions of eggs of all different shapes, sizes, and colors, each pulsing with a vile aura.

Amongst these eggs, there was one that stood out, not because of its shape or color, but because of the two intentions laced within the vileness it was radiating.

curiosity and maddening lust.

Suddenly, a banging sound akin to someone pounding on a door echoed out from it.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

A second later, web-like cracks appeared on it.

Cra-crack!

The rhythm of the banging sped up as whatever was inside raged with curiosity to gaze, to know what lay beyond the suffocating darkness that enveloped it.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

And,

Pash!

The egg shattered like glass, revealing a small creature humanoid, about a meter tall, with blue skin, a cute but insidious face.

It was bald, with obsidian eyes and razor-like teeth. Its five fingers bore sharp obsidian claws designed to slice apart prey. It also had two glowing, pointed tails that shimmered colorfully with red, blue, and black colors.

It floated naturally within the river, its eyes wide open, and its small head darted around as it observed the red water and the countless eggs within, with extreme curiosity.

It then gazed down at its hands, and at that, thoughts that questioned its existence bloomed in its nascent mind:

'Who am I?… What am I?… What is my purpose?'

It instinctively asked itself those questions over and over again, but no matter how much it questioned, there were no answers…

Suddenly, hunger washed over it hunger so great it blurred its small mind.

'What is this feeling?'

It questioned as its body instinctively turned toward the remnants of its egg floating a meter behind it.

It reached out its right hand and grabbed a fragment. Following its instinct, it then opened its mouth wide its jaw opening all the way to its ears and,

Krak-krk-crrrunch!

It slowly devoured the shell along with the foul water around it, its eyes and its tails swaying about as it tasted the flavor.

'So good, so goo….what is good? And why is it good?'

It wondered as it grabbed another piece of shell. This time, it didn't even bother to bite it, it shoved it straight down its throat, along with its hand.

A few seconds later, it finished eating all of its egg. It floated motionless, its face morphing into an indescribable expression, eyes opening and closing constantly as it processed the information being installed into its mind.

A second later, it opened its eyes.

The naivety from before was no longer present. Now, there was maturity. Understanding. Understanding of his existence, and the world.

'Abyss. Abyss demon. The River of Birth… and my true name is Vael Rhaziel Atherun.'

He then gazed upwards. The aim of all baby demons after birth was to surface the River of Birth.

'But before that…'

He turned and gazed to the eggs around him future rivals, lovers of death, siblings in filth.

And smiled,

'Lucky me… You only have yourselves to blame for not being me.'

He thought, while his twin tails flickered behind him, propelling him toward a golden egg larger than him that floating five meters before him.

Whoosh!

In no time, he reached it, his small body slamming into it, causing it to float backward. He hugged it tightly, while gazing inside at the shadow of the demon that lay within.

He then pulled his right hand back, straightened it into a spear, his black claws glimmering, after which he swung it forward, and,

Crack!

His claw effortlessly penetrated the shell and grasped the goat-like demon inside, who let out a wail laced with surprise and pain. It instinctively struggled with all its might, hoping to break free from his grasp.

"EEEEHHH!"

Bang! Bang!

He clenched his claw tighter, sinking it into the demon's flesh. Its blood sprayed out, the smell triggered something inside him, the innate vileness of his kind.

His body started shivering with anticipation of how he was going to gruesomely kill this demon, and an insidious grin unconsciously appeared on his small face.

He then viciously pulled the demon toward him, hoping to yank it out of the egg, but it slammed against the shell, for it was too large to fit through the hole his arm had created.

Bang!

But that didn't bother him. He slammed the demon into the eggshell over and over again.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Until, Pash! the egg broke apart, revealing the battered and bloody goat demon with golden fur.

He raised the demon who was double his size to his head and took a good look at it.

Seeing its broken body and dull eyes brought joy to him. He laughed in his mind:

'Hehehehe!'

His jaw opened wide and,

Glurrk-shlaach-chug-krakkk!

He cruelly devoured the demon bit by bit, from its head to its hooves.

As he ate, his belly expanded like it was pregnant, then contracted the second his body subconsciously refined the flesh and blood and spread the energy throughout his being.

A moment later, after he finished eating, he noticed that his strength had increased by about ten percent. He couldn't help but recite the motto of the Abyss in his mind,

'To devour is to live. To refine is to evolve.'

After which, he launched toward another egg ten meters to the left of him.

Whoosh!

In no time, he reached it. He didn't bother to gaze within. He immediately shattered it and effortlessly devoured the fish-like demon inside.

But right after killing it, something happened.

The eggs that had been slumbering around him,

shattered one by one.

Cra-crack—pash!

Revealing the vile, hideous, and deformed demons that had been within.
