Chapter 4 - A duel from a death flag

"What is Young Master Evan doing, Julius?" Asked a maid who was cleaning a vase while she watched Evan outside sporadically moving.

"I would not know. If I had to guess, he is most likely trying to get his fathers attention." Julius responded, sneaking one more glance at Evan before walking away.

Hoisting himself up from the ground, Evan, now exhausted once again, began running laps around the field as Gram watched him.

'G-God damn you Gram! You're telling me you were the no-named asshole who always ended my runs in the early game!?'

In H.K.U after Eddie managed to sway Lady Fontair, the next day he would always be challenged by a no name no face npc to a duel. No matter what he did, he could never defeat him since it was too early on in the game and Evan wouldn't be strong enough.

Not only that, but he also had a short temper which caused him to always be an inconvenience if not killed later down the road. The only way to prevent this was to show your enthusiasm for training your body and praying he fell for it.

After what seemed like hours, Evan collapsed from exhaustion, heavily breathing as Gram walked over his limp body. Evans' eyes widened as he tried to rise to feet only for his body to feel extremely heavy.

"I don't know what you're trying to prove, but I'd recommend you try and tone it down. Any more of this and your body won't be able to function well." Gram spoke, his face darkened from the position Evan was laying.

'Yes! I did it! He won't challenge me now to the fight!'

"Mind your damn business you lowly trainee." Evan spoke subconsciously, covering his mouth, then looking over towards Gram.

Gram with a furious look in eyes hoisted Evan into the air as he asked him to repeat himself. A few guards rush over causing Gram to release from his iron tight grip. Evan looked back at Gram and glared, only provoking him more.

"Is what I said so wrong? You are lower than me in status, birth right, and even wealth. Why should I have to listen to someone who works under my father?"

"Fine. Why don't we see which one of us is stronger? You with your status, and me with my fists!"

Evan looked at Gram blankly before scoffing at the proposal, agreeing to the terms as he began to walk away from the situation.

"In a week's time ill show you what a commoner can do!" Yelled Gram as Evan entered the manor disappearing from sight.

As Evan was led back to his room by a maid, he collapsed onto his bed either from complete exhaustion or the life ending event that will take place within a week. He thought of multiple strategies before remembering almost every single one had failed before. Evan thought of gaining anyone from the household assistance but then erased almost instantaneously the thought since nobody would even give him the time of day.

Evan began thinking back to H.K.U's "Main characters" since he was already thinking about the game. Plenty of characters within the game along with Talon had stories that made each one feel like they were the guardians of the world or had a bigger role overall.

Not only that, they also had useful traits that secured them the spots within the strongest ranks within the game. If anyone however had to be considered for the top spot as strongest with the least complaints, Talon would most definitely come to mind since he held not one nor two but three traits.

'Curse that cheat fuck!'

As Evan rolled around in his bed, a sharp pain spiked within his head as he sat up with a surprised face before rushing towards the corner of his bedroom.

'God damn it Evan! You really are a genius!'

After pressing down on the corner of a wooden plank on the floor, it rose revealing a secret compartment that held a small vial containing a dosage of snake venom. Within the memory Evan had just relieved, he purchased the venom with the intent of using it against Talon before eventually opting out of it since he never had a chance to get close enough to Talon. Evan gripped the vial with glee as he jumped up and down, before quickly pulling out his quill and a piece of paper. He began writing things down with great haste before giving a satisfying smile as he returned to his bed and rested, ready for what tomorrow to throw at him.

As night came, Julius knocked four times on a door, as a voice old yet frighteningly allowed him to enter. As he stepped foot within these chambers, Julias glanced at an old man who sat in a chair that faced an open window as a cold breeze flew through. Although quite old, his hair had not a single strand of grey within it along with a body which looked like a soldier's in their prime. Julias bowed, taking a knee and placing his right arm tucked towards his stomach.

"What is it you had to report Julius?" The man asked.

"I have come to inform you that I have permitted Young Master Evan to leave his chambers in order to train his body since it had become quite the disturbance for those who worked when he did it inside."

The old man looked towards Julius before an audible sigh was released from his mouth. A moment of time passed as the old man tapped his finger onto his chair, remembering a tune he had heard a while back.

"Do what you wish Julius, I trust you enough to make sure things don't go out of control with that boy."

"Understood. I'd also like to report that Young Master Evan had an altercation with one of the trainees." Julius stated, as another sigh echoed.

"Once again, do what you think is best, Julius."

After a nod of understanding, Julius bowed once more before exiting the chambers, looking at the bright moon, wearing a smile as he looked towards the barracks near the training grounds.

As the sun rose high in the sky, a demonic screeching echoed throughout the area as Evan carried a bag in his hands as he painstakingly reached a small line within the training grounds. He wiped his forehead with his semi-numb arms as he noticed he had left a trail of footprints front and back at the path he had walked.

Evan had been carrying a large back filled with any heavy object he could get his hands on and lugged it around the area, along with doing some basic exercises like pushups, pull ups, and squats. He looked at one of the second floor windows of the manor, catching the gaze of Julius who had been watching him for quite some time. Returning Evan's gaze, Julias returned to his daily duties as Evan grew a large smirk.

As a few hours passed, the trainees who were training to either become family guards or soldiers emerged from their barracks as Evan spotted and walked towards Gram with a meal in his hands. As Gram wrapped his hands for today's hand to hand combat training, a shadow consumed him as he looked up to only see a smiling Evan, holding out a meal tray.

"Have you eaten breakfast Gram? You must be starving from all the training you do. I actually brought you some from the kitchen inside." Evan asked.

After a brief moment, Gram laughed loudly as he looked back up towards Evan.

"You must really think im stupid if you expect me to eat anything you give me." Gram said, standing in front of Evan trying to intimidate him.

"Well that's a shame. Here I was trying to feed the man I would beat this week."

"Are you trying to fight!?" Gram yelled, gripping Evan by the collar as he dropped the food on the floor.

"Darn, I guess my work here is done since you've ruined the food." Evan said, smacking Gram's hand as he began to walk away before turning towards Gram once more.

"Oh yea, did I forget to mention I will be working in the kitchen all week? If you're this spectacle of the food I offer, I wonder what would happen if you ate anything from there." Evan said with a sly grin heading back inside.

Gram stood there furious as all hell, about to rush inside the manor and beat Evan to a bloody pulp when suddenly, a man who had been training collapsed. Gram along with the others rushed towards him as he lied unconscious.

"What the hell happened!? Training hasn't even started yet!" Gram yelled as a fellow trainee emerged from the crowd.

"B-Before he collapsed, he asked me to bring him some water and when he drank it, he fell." The young soldier explained as Grams' face grew grim.

He looked towards the windows as he saw Evan being escorted to his room by a maid as he turned towards him, giving a bright smile.
