Princess Claire Leonis is the 2nd princess of the Leonis empire, one of the largest nation in the land of Terra Magum. As the royality, she was given education related to politics, geopolitics, etiquette, etc., as well as swordmanship and magic. Leonis is an excellent politician, tactician and famed magic swordmaster. Being one of the candidates for throne due to her talents, she had undergone strict training, so that, she could become ideal leader for the Leonis empire.
She had a close relationship with the son of a marquis, David Ashborn, a famous alchemist and Claire's childhood sweetheart. But the 1st princess, Emma Leonis, seduced him, resulting Claire's engagement with David was broken. To make the matter worse for her, Claire's father, Henry Leonis, the current ruler of the empire, engaged Claire with Emma's former fiance, the son of a baron family, Edward Alastor, who is infamous for being a magicless noble child.
Claire believed that Emma intentionally stole, David to get his family to her side, as well as pushing her to marry a person, who is not only worthless but also come from a ordinary noble family with no remarkable status. This made Claire to become very angry on her father and her scheming half sister, but she cannot oppose the royal orders, she had no choice but to obey.
"Ugh! What the hell was David thinking? How could he threw away our long time relationship for that vixen!"
"Your highness! I know you are angry but we cannot resist emperor's order"
"Yeah, we have no choice but to follow emperor's order"
"But on good side, you learned your so-called childhood sweetheart's true face"
Claire seems visibly upset but maids and knights accompanying her tried to calm down.
"Even so, I can't believe that David could do such thing!"
Claire is still upset with the betrayal of his lover, but the knight captain tried to calm her down.
"There's no need to think about that scumbag, your highness, instead, let's hope that your new fiance although worthless person, would be atleast a decent man"
After being calmed down Claire replied.
"You are right, let's hope, this magicless guy is atleast a better person"
The escort finally reached their destination the barony of Alastor. Much to the princess and escort's surprise, the wall around the barony seems to be stronger than the ones around the capital, but that's not all, aside from regular guardss, there are strange kind of guards. Unlike the regular guards who are dressed in magical knight armors and magical melee and ranged weapons, the strange guards are dressed in either light attire or strange armor, they also equipped with weird weapons that resembles a pipe and melee weapon with unusual melee weapons.
The strange guards also seems to have no affinity for magic in contrast to normal gaurds who have atleast certain amount of mana enough for a magic warrior, but for some reason, Claire felt instinctively wary of the magicless guards than than magical ones. The guards of both types recognised the princess and greeted them.
"Welcome to Alastor barony your highness, I hope you didn't face any trouble coming here"
The guards opened the door for the princess and her companions, the door seems to be a huge sliding door, the group passed to the gate. After completing the screening, they entered the barony. The barony seems to quite different from what the group believed to be, clean roads, bustling towns, people wearing clean clothes, cleanliness, it was as if they are in capital of a wealthy nation rather than being in a mere countriside barony.
"Leila, we didn't came to wrong place isn't it?"
Princess asked her personal maid Leila.
"I don't know, what do you think Tom?"
Leila herself unaware of the situation asked Tom, one of the knights.
"Well, according to map, this was supposed to be our destination"
The group is then greeted by a butler who seems to be expecting them.
"Greetings, your highness, I am the butler of Alastor barony, welcome to Alastor barony, I hope you face no trouble traveling here"
The butler said with a smile, the princess curious asked the butler.
"This place is far different from what I imagined, I didn't expect this place to be well civilized"
"That is our young master, Edward's doing, this place was used to be no different from a countryside village, but thanks to the industrial revolution and political reform proposed by young master, this place went from poor countryside barony to a wealthy civilized state.
"Edward? But isn't he....."
The princess is about to say something, but the butler interrupted.
"Young master Edward is a genius, aside from being a qualified politician and businessman, he is also master of various field, he managed to turn many barren land in the barony into fertile ground for farming, created many machines and device that made day to day life easier, improved the commerce and business, built industries, built vehicles that can move without animals or magic, and lot more!"
Butler told about many accomplishments of Edward Alastor, almost in a manner of boasting, the princess seems to be confused with words like 'machine', 'industry' and 'commerce', but she understood that her so-called current fiance is not that worthless afterall.
"For now, let's enter the car, I will tell the rest on road"
"Car?"
"It is one of the new vehicle young master invented, a vehicle that does not need to pulled by animal or require assitance from magic"
The butler pointed toward a luxurious limousine and many SUVs. The princess and her aides sat on limousine while rest sat on SUVs. The vehicle fascinated by the vehicle which indeed doesn't require animal to pull as well as requiring no assitance from magic, her aides and rest of the escort also felt same.
"Make sure to tighten your seatbelts for safety reasons"
The butler told the princess and her aides.
While the car traveling on the road, the princess and her escort looked out of window, the place was astounding, the huge building and skyscrapers, many vehicles similar to the one they are travelling in, solid and clean roads, a strange artifact maintaining guiding the vehicles (traffic lights), and lot more. The princess saw many malls, stalls, supermarkets, hotels and restaurents, these were far better than the inn, bars and markets from the capitals. The butler told her that these were are Edward's doing, the supposed useless noble, which surprised Claire.
"Edward Alastor, I wonder what kind of man he is"
With this thought in her mind, she look forward to her new fiance.
