Chapter 3 - Melinda’s Concerns, Meeting Sheldon and Missy

— Point of View of Melinda —

Today, Alex and I are going to the church that my friend invited me to.

I can't say why, but ever since we arrived in this city, I feel that my son has changed.

When I asked for help to unpack our things, he simply agreed and did what I asked without saying anything more. He didn't even complain about being tired, nor did he ask to go play.

Well, maybe he is a little sad about moving to a place where he doesn't know anyone.

The next day, we went to school to enroll him. As we walked, I saw the look of surprise on his face as he observed the school, which made my heart relax a bit.

This is how a child should behave, I thought.

Later on the same day, he went into his room and didn't come out to play in the street. I spent the day worried because he didn't leave his room to play.

Since I was busy, I couldn't talk to him until the evening, when I noticed that he was still in his room. When I went upstairs and opened the door, what I saw left me very surprised.

He had been studying all this time!

With doubts, I moved closer to observe. Perhaps he was just drawing and I had been mistaken.

When I saw several papers scattered about, I picked some up to take a look. Upon noticing the basic math formulas, I was very surprised.

As his mother, I had been called to the school many times because of my son's grades. I even tried to teach him at home, but it seemed that nothing was getting through to him.

That's why I felt worried about his future. As a mother, who wouldn't want their child to succeed?

When I looked at the answers to the math formulas, I did a mental calculation and realized they were correct.

I noticed that the math formulas Alex was solving were not things that children his age should be learning right now.

When I saw which book he was using, my heart began to beat faster. Could it be that my son is, in fact, a genius?

Later, when I told him, he seemed surprised—as if he hadn't even noticed what he was doing.

While I was thinking, I also paid attention to the road. I looked at my son in the rearview mirror and noticed that his eyes were closed.

It seems that he is still a little sleepy, I thought.

Soon, we arrived at the church. After finding a parking spot and parking my car, I looked in the rearview mirror and said aloud:

"We're here."

— End of Melinda's Point of View —

"..."

After getting out of the car, Alex walked toward the church with his mother.

In the distance, his eyes were fixed on the figure of three people he recognized as they entered the church. Alex's heart was beating very fast.

Finally, it was confirmed that he had crossed over to the world of Young Sheldon. He didn't know whether he was happy about it or not.

When he saw Pastor Jeff, he didn't know how to react and spent the service dazed.

He even thought that he had been caught in something like The Truman Show, but when he looked at his small hands, he dismissed that idea. Everything was very confusing for him. He was in good health and didn't remember having died or having seen a god named ROB.

After sleeping, he simply woke up in an unfamiliar place, in the body of another person, living a new life.

At first, he didn't even think that he might have taken over someone else's body, but now he felt guilty, thinking that he was living someone else's life. He wondered what had happened to the real Alex.

"Son, are you listening to me?"

A voice pulled Alex back from his thoughts.

When he looked at his mother, he realized that she was watching him with a worried expression.

He felt mixed emotions. He hadn't asked for any of this and tried to convince himself that it wasn't his fault.

Now that he had become Alex, he would live as Alex and do everything to make the parents of this body proud of him.

Looking at his mother, he already had a firm conviction about his new life.

"I'm fine, Mom. What happened?" – he said, smiling to reassure her.

"Really? You were distracted the entire service. When I called you to leave, you didn't answer," said Melinda.

"Is it over?" – Alex was surprised.

Looking around, he saw that people were leaving. Feeling a little embarrassed, he scratched the back of his head.

"Ah... sorry, I was thinking about the math problems I couldn't solve yesterday," he decided to lie.

Melinda looked at her son and noticed his embarrassed expression. She didn't want to insist on the matter. She thought that, since her son might be a genius, this behavior would be normal.

"Come on, my friend is waiting out there. I want to talk to her."

After getting up, Alex followed his mother.

As they passed through the door, he noticed that she was walking toward Pastor Jeff, who was talking with people familiar to him—the Cooper family.

"Hello! I had never seen you around here before!" said Pastor Jeff to Alex's mother.

Observing this, Alex remained silent, but his heart was racing. Could it be that his mother's friend was Mary?

"Hello... Pastor Jeff, right?" – Melinda replied with a smile.

"That's right! And you are…?" – asked the pastor.

Just like in the series, he had a goofily kind smile. Alex was curious as he observed everything.

Grasping the pastor's hand, Melinda introduced herself:

"Melinda. Melinda Coleman!"

"Welcome, Mrs. Melinda Coleman! I hope you liked our church," said Pastor Jeff, smiling.

At that moment, Mary approached with her children. Pastor Jeff, noticing this, tried to introduce them, but Melinda spoke first:

"Sister Mary!"

Then Melinda moved toward Mary, and the two embraced.

"Sister Melinda! I'm so glad you came today!" said Mary, smiling as she held Melinda's hands like best friends.

Alex, who was watching everything, wasn't surprised. It was what he expected. In the series, his family didn't exist… could this be the so-called butterfly effect?

"Excuse me, but do you already know each other, Mary?" – asked Pastor Jeff, curiously.

"Yes, we were great friends in high school," replied Mary.

"Yes… and to think that someone who used to drag me into trouble would turn out like this…" – provoked Melinda.

Mary looked embarrassed and retorted:

"That's not how I remember it!"

Alex was amazed by that exchange. As an adult, he understood a little more. In the series, he knew that before Mary became a mother, she was very mischievous.

Looking at Sheldon, who had a confused expression; at Missy, who looked at her mother as though she had discovered a secret; and at Pastor Jeff, who looked a bit awkward, Alex noticed that Mary had also picked up on their reactions.

Embarrassed, she changed the subject.

"Is this your son?"

Melinda understood her friend and took the conversation in a new direction.

"Yes. Son, introduce yourself to Mom's friend."

Alex looked at everyone, nodded slightly, and said:

"Hello, Pastor Jeff. Mrs. Mary. My name is Alex. Alex Coleman!"

"Hello, little Alex!" – replied Pastor Jeff, first.

"Hello, Melinda! Your son is very handsome and cute!" – said Mary, smiling.

Melinda held her head up proudly, as if to say, "Who's the mother?"

Missy, upon noticing Alex, had her eyes filled with stars. Sheldon, on the other hand, showed no interest at all.

"These two are my children. You met them when you visited our house before," said Mary.

"I hope our children can be good friends. Sheldon, Missy, introduce yourselves."

Finally, the moment Alex had been waiting for arrived. He would officially meet Sheldon and Missy.

Author's Notes:

I tried to write a novel before but ended up giving up in the end. Now, I'm back with this fanfic.

I realize that writing is very difficult; I don't know how many times I've rewritten this chapter, but I still think it's not good enough.

However, I believe that practice leads to perfection. I know I'm not very intelligent, and maybe I won't be able to write technical scientific terms, like scientific calculations, but I'll try not to write complete nonsense.

As you may have noticed, the MC is not a typical reincarnated character. He has his own cheat.

Here's a spoiler: a set of cheats!
