Chapter 1 - The accident

The Dewson family was on top of the world. Andrew's graduation ceremony was just around the corner, and Captain Dewson, a decorated soldier, was beaming with pride. But little did they know, their lives were about to take a drastic turn.

As they prepared to leave for the ceremony, Captain Dewson's phone rang, shattering the excitement. "I'm sorry, my dear. I won't be able to make it to the ceremony. I have an emergency call," he said, his voice firm but apologetic.

Mrs. Dewson's face fell, but she put on a brave face for the kids. "Let's go celebrate Andrew's graduation without Daddy. We'll make him proud." As they left for the ceremony, Angel teased her brother about his girlfriend, making him blush. "Hey, Andrew, I heard your girlfriend is super pretty. You better not mess it up!"

Andrew playfully defended his girlfriend, and the siblings laughed and joked, enjoying each other's company. But fate had other plans. On the way home, tragedy struck. A tire blew out, and Mrs Dewson lost control of the car. The vehicle swerved across the road, and Angel felt a scream rising in her throat.

The hospital staff worked tirelessly to save their lives, but it was too late. As Angel sat beside Andrew's battered body, he mustered a weak smile. "Angel... I'm... I'm sorry," he whispered, his voice barely audible.

Angel's eyes welled up with tears as she reached out to her brother. Andrew's hand grasped hers, and he looked at her with all the love and affection he had. "I... I'll always be with you, Angel," he whispered, his voice fading. "In your heart... always."

Those were Andrew's last words, and Angel's world was shattered. Mrs Dewson and the unborn baby didn't make it, and Andrew's loss was a devastating blow. Angel's spark faded away, and she locked herself in her room, refusing to eat or interact with anyone. Captain Dewson was consumed by grief, and Angel's condition worsened.

In a desperate bid to help Angel heal, Captain Dewson decided to relocate to a bigger and more luxurious house, hoping a change of environment would help her cope. He also hired a home-school teacher, Ms. Nwosu, to help Angel catch up on her studies. For three months, Ms. Dean worked with Angel, slowly bringing her out of her shell.

As Angel began to heal, Captain Dewson knew he couldn't stay home forever. He had to go back to work as a soldier, protecting his country. Angel noticed her dad's worry lines and realized she was the reason he wasn't going to work. She felt a pang of guilt and decided to make a change.

"Daddy, I want to go back to school. I want to resume my studies and make you proud," Angel said, determination in her eyes.

Captain Dewson's eyes lit up with hope. "Really, Angel? You're ready to go back to school?"

Angel nodded, and Captain Dewson smiled, feeling a sense of pride and relief. As they approached her new school, Angel's eyes widened in awe. The building was huge, with tall ceilings and expansive windows that let in plenty of natural light. She felt a bit intimidated, wondering if she would be able to fit in.

With Ms.Dean guidance, Angel navigated the corridors of her new school, trying to find her place. But she was met with curious stares and snickers. The corridors were a battleground, and she was the new recruit. When a group of kids started teasing Angel, she ignored them and kept walking. She didn't want to spoil her first day at school by getting into a confrontation.
