Chapter 9 - Midday Sun

Calm winds flowed across the fields. A group of children were playing amongst them. Kaze closed the sliding door behind him to take in the view of the cat country. It was peaceful. As it should be. He finds a quiet spot and sits by the steps to the road and sets up a range of tools and unequips his swords from his person. He begins with the largest katana, carefully unsheathing it and wiping the blade with a small white cloth. He then taps some white powder onto both sides of the blade and wipes it down again. Finally, he applies some oil to a cloth and applies it onto the sword, making sure to give the blade an even coating. He sheathes the katana and repeats the process with his other two smaller blades.

While Kaze was tending to his swords, Suki was watering the flowers beside their home. Misty waters scattered across the delicate petals and stems. It was a comforting moment for the two. Fortunate that their new visitors weren't-

"BANDITS!"

A cat man shouted in fear as he approached the village. Kaze rose quickly and prepared his blades.

"Suki, you and the man alert the village," He said hurriedly.

As Suki and the man sprinted for the village, Kaze rushed inside his home and gathered the attention of the crew.

"It seems your pursuers have followed your trail."

Migs looked up at Kaze with a mean frown on his face. His fist clenched into a ball of pure rage. He grabbed his rifle and recalled the moment his crewmates were killed.

"I'm not gunna run this time round. That cunt is dead."

Ehma kicked up her hammer and checked that the chamber was racked. She looked over at John who was still on the floor kneeling, deep in a prayer. He then shortly got up on his feet and put on his hat.

"I'll never forgive myself if the people here are hurt. Shall we end this with you swordsman?"

Kaze was taken back at their iron will. They had only just barely recovered from an encounter and yet they stand strong and prepare to fight alongside a person they had just met. Kaze gave a standing bow of appreciation gestured them to follow him to the road.

"Then we shall face them together."
