Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Goal is to Live Freely

The primary activity of the Service Club was reading.

Every time Su Yu arrived at the clubroom, Yukinoshita Yukino was already immersed in a book.

To avoid disturbing her, he bought a collection of light novels to read during lunch breaks.

The light novels in this world didn't include the bestsellers he remembered.

Of course, there were still plenty of interesting ones.

Romance and isekai (another world) genres were his favorites.

Typically, these genres featured attractive heroines.

Even if a light novel turned out to be poorly written, at least the heroine would be nice to look at—so it was never a total loss.

For someone who had inherited an apartment and a billion yen, living an otaku lifestyle for the rest of his life didn't seem like a problem.

In his previous world, he had worked hard for a long time and finally achieved the dream of being a full-time otaku.

Through earnings from novels and videos, he sustained a simple life—no girlfriend, no friends, only anime and books for company.

Most of the time, he was happy.

But sometimes… he felt lonely.

Late at night, he would cook something delicious, crack open a can of cola, and watch anime alone.

His longest record was staying indoors for an entire week—so long that his landlady even came to check on him.

She was probably worried something had happened to him.

Thinking back on his past world, Su Yu's lips curled into a smile.

"Are light novels really that interesting?" Yukinoshita Yukino's voice suddenly broke the silence.

"They are. I enjoy every story I read. I used to be a writer myself," Su Yu replied, snapping back to reality.

"Can I see your works?" Yukino asked, her eyes showing a hint of curiosity.

"Uh…" Su Yu hesitated.

His works were all from his previous world.

And they were purely anime-centric novels—probably only fellow otakus would appreciate them.

"Is it something inappropriate for me to see?" Yukino speculated.

"Yeah." Su Yu nodded.

"Su Yu-kun, I can tell you're not lacking in money, but be careful not to write something that gets you arrested," Yukino warned.

"Thanks for the concern, Yukinoshita-san. My writing isn't that extreme," Su Yu said as he glanced at the light novel in his hands.

To be honest, his novels in his past world were far tamer than the ones published here. He had been rather timid in his writing.

"Is your goal to become a professional light novel author?" Yukino asked while flipping through her book.

"My goal is to live freely," Su Yu replied after a moment of thought.

"To live freely?" Yukino looked up at him.

"That seems to be your goal as well, doesn't it?" Su Yu recalled Yukino's background.

"If one could truly live freely, it would certainly be a wonderful thing," Yukino murmured, lowering her gaze back to her book instead of directly answering his question.

"Even a lady from a prestigious family has her own troubles, huh?" Su Yu mused, shifting his gaze away.

The clubroom fell into silence once more.

Lunch Break Ends

Su Yu returned to his classroom.

Class 2-F—the same class as the protagonist, Hikigaya Hachiman.

His seat was by the window, in the very last row.

From here, he could see the cherry blossom tree outside.

Occasionally, when he opened the window, cherry blossoms would drift into the classroom.

Su Yu glanced outside before turning his attention to another student who sat in the back row—Miura Yumiko.

From the side, Miura Yumiko was undeniably beautiful.

Although she didn't have the overwhelming allure of Yukinoshita Yukino, she was certainly the prettiest girl in their class.

If there were a beauty ranking, Miura Yumiko would be an 8, while Yukino would be a 9.

Perhaps sensing his gaze, Miura Yumiko turned to look at him.

Their eyes met.

Su Yu quickly looked away.

Miura Yumiko was momentarily puzzled.

Then, a playful smile appeared on her lips.

Could it be that this transfer student… had fallen for her?

He wasn't as dazzling as Hayama Hayato, but upon closer inspection, he was actually quite handsome.

"What a shame—I already have Hayama. But maybe I could introduce him to Yui or Hina?"

With that thought, she glanced at her friends.

Ebina Hina seemed uninterested, but Yuigahama Yui was completely inexperienced when it came to romance.

Miura Yumiko thought for a moment before sending Yui a message.

Yuigahama Yui was checking the time when her phone buzzed.

Miura Yumiko:"Yui, I just took a good look at the transfer student. He's actually pretty hot. Too bad I already have Hayama, but if you're interested, I can help you get his contact info~"

Yuigahama Yui blushed as she instinctively glanced toward Su Yu.

At that moment, Su Yu was looking out the window, his serious expression making him seem even more attractive.

Miura Yumiko noticed Yui's reaction and smirked before sending another message.

Yuigahama Yui snapped out of her daze as another notification popped up.

She clicked it open—and her face turned an even deeper shade of red.

Miura Yumiko:"Yui, your shy expression is adorable. I'll go get his contact for you. After school, let's invite Su Yu-kun to karaoke. That way, you two can have some alone time~"

Yuigahama Yui wanted to refuse, but at that moment, the teacher walked into the classroom.

Hurriedly, she put her phone away.

Miura Yumiko, not receiving a reply, assumed Yui was just too shy and had silently agreed.

With that in mind, she eagerly looked forward to their meeting after school.

Class Ended Before He Knew It

Su Yu began to notice the benefits of his memory enhancement skill.

He had retained nearly everything the teacher said.

He even remembered the details of the light novel he had read during lunch.

"If I can remember everything… would my brain eventually run out of storage?"

That thought crossed Su Yu's mind as he decided to read more useful books in the future.

"Su Yu-kun."

A girl's voice called out to him.

He looked up.

"Miura-san? Is something wrong?" Su Yu was slightly surprised to see Miura Yumiko standing in front of his desk.

"Can I have your contact info?" Miura Yumiko asked with a charming smile.

"...Sure." After a brief hesitation, Su Yu took out his phone.

Miura Yumiko swiftly exchanged contacts with him.

It was only after they had finished that she noticed something strange.

Su Yu's contact list had only one entry—hers.

"Su Yu-kun, did you just get a new phone?" she asked curiously.

"Why do you ask?" Su Yu looked at her.

"Because I'm the only contact on your list. You don't even have your parents' numbers saved."

"My parents… were in a plane crash recently. I'm the only one left now."

After a brief pause, Su Yu gave her a calm yet heavy answer.

"I… I'm so sorry," Miura Yumiko said, a bit flustered.

"It's fine," Su Yu replied softly.

After a short silence, Miura Yumiko asked, "Su Yu-kun, are you free after school?"

"I am."

Hearing his response, Miura Yumiko smiled and continued, "Wanna go to karaoke with us?"

"Sure." Su Yu nodded.
