Mrs. Sinclair's words hung in the air between us, heavy and impossible to ignore.
"A piece of advice, Hazel." Her voice was softer now, almost maternal. "Deep love burns bright but often doesn't last. Men like my son aren't built for failure. His pride won't survive watching his family's legacy crumble because of his heart's choice."
I felt numb, my fingertips cold despite the warm cup in my hands. "You make it sound like loving me is his greatest mistake."
