Chapter 13 - chapter 13

Time Skip – Late Night

The quiet hum of the night settled over the Hanamitchi residence. Outside, the wind rustled gently through the trees, and inside, everything felt still—except for the thoughts swirling in Y/N's head.

She stood in front of the mirror, patting the last bit of moisturizer into her skin, her pink pajamas soft against her skin—tiny little hearts scattered across the fabric, innocent and warm.

Her hair had been blow-dried into soft waves, her cheeks still slightly flushed from the warmth of the shower. But even though her body felt clean and relaxed, her mind… not so much.

"Everything's changing so fast…" she whispered to herself, staring into her own reflection.

Just as she was about to crawl into bed, something clicked in her memory.

The doctor's voice:

"Dress the wound at least twice a day. Especially the cut along his left side—it could reopen."

She sighed softly, got up again, and quietly padded down the hallway barefoot.

Standing in front of Yuri's door, she raised a hand and knocked gently.

Knock. Knock.

A pause.

Knock. Knock.

Then… the faint sound of footsteps from inside.

The door creaked open slightly, and Yuri stood there, leaning against the frame—sleepy-eyed, dressed in a loose black tee and grey sweatpants, his hair a soft mess.

He blinked once.

"What now?" he murmured, voice husky from sleep.

Y/N stood there, slightly hesitant, her fingers clutching the little first-aid kit.

"Sorry to disturb you…" she said softly, eyes glancing up at him,

"…but the doctor told me to change your wound twice a day, so… I came to dress it."

Yuri blinked again, staring at her in those pink pajamas with the little hearts, her voice calm but a bit shy under the hallway light. He leaned his shoulder against the doorframe, arms crossed lazily.

"You always this responsible, nurse Y/N?" he teased with a half-smirk, though the exhaustion still lingered in his eyes.

"Yuri." She said his name a little sternly, stepping forward.

"Sit down so I can take care of it properly."

He sighed, but obediently turned and walked back inside, leaving the door open for her.

Y/N followed quietly, closing the door behind her.

Inside, the room was dim and smelled faintly of lavender. Yuri sat at the edge of the bed, lifting the hem of his shirt just enough for her to see the bandaged area.

She knelt beside him, her fingers gentle and practiced as she started to unwrap the old gauze.

"You're lucky it's not deep," she murmured, mostly to herself.

Yuri just watched her quietly—her focused eyes, the way her bottom lip tucked in slightly when she concentrated.

"Why are you always this gentle?" he asked suddenly.

She paused, fingers still.

"Because someone has to be."

The room went still again.

Only the soft rustling of fresh bandages filled the silence.

"Done," she said, patting the fresh bandage lightly.

She stood up quickly, not realizing how close she was—and then…

Flop.

Her forehead bumped right into Yuri's.

"Ow—what are you—" Yuri groaned, his hand instinctively flying to his head.

But before he could finish the sentence—

"Why are you so close?!" she snapped, rubbing her own forehead, flustered.

Yuri looked up at her with a mix of pain and amusement, his smirk returning despite the slight red mark forming.

"You stood up like a rocket, what do you mean why am I so close?"

She puffed her cheeks in frustration.

"You leaned in, I didn't expect your head to be right there!"

"Maybe I wanted to say thanks." he muttered.

Her brows furrowed.

"By headbutting me?"

Yuri chuckled softly, leaning back on his hands.

"Next time I'll just write a thank-you card."

She turned toward the door, muttering something that definitely sounded like "idiot", but her ears were just a little pink.

Y/N turned at the door, casting one last glance over her shoulder. Her voice softened, laced with something unspoken.

"Goodnight, Yuri… If something happens, call me."

Yuri, still sitting on the edge of the bed, looked up at her—his gaze steady, quiet.

He didn't smile this time. He just nodded once.

Yuri pov

I rubbed a towel through my hair as I stepped out of the washroom, the faint steam trailing behind me. The house was quiet—it was late, and I figured everyone was already in their rooms by now.

Then—

Knock. Knock.

I paused mid-step.

Who's knocking this late?

I walked toward the door and pulled it open.

And there she was.

Her.

Hair still slightly damp, tied loosely behind her neck. She wore soft pink pajamas with tiny hearts, and a first-aid kit clutched awkwardly in her hand. Her eyes flickered up to meet mine, calm and determined—but her fingers gave her away, fidgeting slightly.

"Sorry to disturb you…" she said.

"…but the doctor told me to change your wound twice a day, so I came to dress it."

I didn't say anything at first. I just looked at her.

The way her voice dipped when she was unsure, how her eyes never stayed in one place too long when she was being sincere—it was something I'd started to notice. And maybe… something I'd started to wait for.

She stepped in and told me to sit, like she'd done this before.

I watched her kneel beside me, that quiet care in her touch, and for a second… the wound didn't sting anymore.

She didn't even realize it—how much peace she carried in her silence.

And when she stood up and accidentally bumped my forehead—my first thought wasn't pain.

It was…

"She's close."

And maybe… I didn't want her to move away so fast. But she did. With a flustered "Goodnight, Yuri… If something happens, call me."

Even after she left…

Her scent lingered.

That soft, fresh scent of her damp hair—like blooming jasmine mixed with something warm and familiar. It wrapped around my senses, subtle but impossible to ignore.

I leaned back against the headboard, closing my eyes.

"What the hell is wrong with me…" I muttered under my breath.

But the truth was—I couldn't stay away.

Not from her.

There was something in the way she cared without asking for anything back… the way she filled up the room without trying.

And now—her scent still danced on the air, teasing me.

It was driving me crazy.

I buried my face in the pillow she had touched earlier.

And I hated how comforting it felt.

"You're dangerous," I whispered into the quiet night,

"…and you don't even know it."

Time skip – A few days later

It's been a week.

A whole week since that brawl in front of the college gates… since Yuri got hurt… since Y/N started living in a blur of first-aid kits, soup bowls, and silent glances.

And both of them?

Absent.

Classes continued, but their empty seats didn't go unnoticed.

Whispers trailed through the hallways—

"Hey, where's Yuri? Didn't he punch someone last time?"

"I saw Y/N with him that day. Did they… disappear together?"

"Are they suspended?"

"Are they dating?"

Everyone had theories.

No one had answers.

Even the professors asked, some jokingly, some genuinely worried. But neither Yuri nor Y/N responded to the messages in the student group chat.

It was as if they'd vanished—together.

But behind that quiet disappearance were late nights, slow recoveries, glances that lasted too long, and emotions that neither of them could quite put into words yet.

Yuri's phone buzzed . He glanced at the screen and tapped "Answer."

"Hello, bro. It's been a week—how're you holding up?" came Keifer's voice, warm and a little raspy.

Yuri settled back against the pillows, careful not to jar his side.

"I'm fine. I should be ready for classes starting Monday. See you then."

"Great—get well soon," Keifer said. "We were going to come by, but things have been… hectic with the Hawl gang."

Yuri's brow furrowed.

"Anything urgent? New deals or trouble?"

There was a pause.

"Not yet, for now," Keifer answered.

At that moment, Y/N slipped into the room, carrying the little medicine tray. She leaned over Yuri's shoulder and whispered:

"Yuri, it's time for your medicine."

Keifer's voice lit up with teasing laughter through the speaker.

"Woah—behave yourself, bro! Don't let her boss you around too much."

Yuri rolled his eyes, but the corner of his mouth tugged upward in a smile.

"She's just looking out for me," he said softly.

"Alright, I'll let you two lovebirds be," Keifer chuckled. "Call me if anything happens."

Yuri nodded. "Will do. Thanks, Keif."

He ended the call and turned to Y/N, who was already setting out the little cup of pills and a glass of water. She gave him a small, exasperated smile.

"Open up," she teased, holding out the glass.

He did—half because he needed the medicine, half because he wanted the excuse to meet her eyes again.

As he swallowed, she brushed a strand of hair behind his ear. The room felt warm and safe.

Yuri settled back against his pillows, iPad in hand.

"Miss, you missed a whole week of classes, so here—here's the notes."

He handed her the device. She tapped the screen and scrolled through neatly organized lecture slides and handwritten annotations.

"Where did you get all these?" she asked, impressed.

Yuri gave her that half‑smile that always drove her crazy.

"Many ways for me," he shrugged.

Y/N leaned in with a teasing glint in her eye.

"Ooooh—so you've got girls at the university passing you notes now?" she asked, wagging a finger at him.

Yuri's cheeks colored faintly as he snapped the iPad shut.

"Shut up, Miss. It's not what you think."

The blue BMW Z4 screeched through the university gate and came to a smooth halt in front of the main building. A ripple of surprise ran through the crowd as Yuri opened the driver's door and stepped out first, crisp and composed despite the attention.

"Thats Yuri," one girl whispered, eyes wide.

"After a long… my Yuri came back," another sighed, clasping her hands.

Nearby, two others exchanged sharper words.

"Hey, is that the new transfree?" one hissed.

"What the fuck?! Why is she coming with him? Let's give her a lesson afterwards," the other sneered.

Y/N's heart fluttered, but she squared her shoulders and slid out of the passenger seat. Yuri reached back, giving her hand a brief, reassuring squeeze before he closed the door. Together, they stepped onto the paved path that led into the main hallway.

Time skips

The bell rang for break, and the entire class stirred. Y/N closed her notebook and stood, smoothing her skirt.

Yuri glanced up from his phone.

"Where are you going?"

Y/N gave him a quick smile.

"I'm going to check on Cin and Rakki. We haven't seen each other since… well, you know, that day."

Yuri's brow furrowed with concern.

"You sure you don't want me to come?"

She shook her head, slipping her bag onto her shoulder.

"No—I'll be fine."

He hesitated, then nodded.

"Alright. Just text me if anything comes up."

With that, she slipped out into the hallway.

Hallway

The corridor buzzed with students crowding lockers and chatting in groups. Y/N wove through them until she spotted Cin and Rakki by their lockers, deep in conversation.

"Cin!" she called, and both turned.

Cin broke into a grin and stepped forward, pulling her into a quick hug.

"Y/N! You okay? We've been worried."

Rakki gave her a soft wave.

"Seriously—you've been MIA all week. What happened?"

Y/N let out a breath, smiling despite herself.

"Long story, but Yuri got hurt in that fight. He's recovering now—he's fine, really. I've just been… helping him."

They slip out of the building and weave through the throng of students into the quiet of the courtyard. A gentle breeze stirs the blossoms on the trees, and they find an empty bench tucked beneath a flowering magnolia.

Cin drops onto the seat with a relieved sigh. Rakki perches beside her, arms crossed, eyes flicking between Y/N and Cin.

Rakki leans forward, eyebrow arched.

"Woohhh—helping him??? Did you guys already move in together or something?"

Cin nods eagerly.

"And why are you mixed up with Yuri? I told you he's dangerous, inside and outside campus."

Y/N takes a deep breath, smoothing the edge of her skirt.

"Okay, okay—sit tight, both of you. I have a longgggg story to tell. Trust me, it's a lot more than 'dangerous bad‑boy rescue.'"

Cin and Rakki exchange a look, then grin.

"Alright," Cin says. "Hit us with it."

Y/N settles back against the bench, folding her hands in her lap. She glances at the petals drifting down around them, then meets their eyes.

Y/N (softly):

"My dad… he's actually Mr. Hanamitchi's business partner from before. I didn't even know until after I transferred here.

Right now, he's in the hospital, and before he was admitted, he entrusted Mr. Haru—Yuri's dad—with taking care of me. That's why I'm staying at the Hanamitchi residence.

I didn't tell you guys earlier because… well, everything happened so fast, and I didn't really have time to explain this whole long story.

He's regained consciousness now, thank God. But still, Yuri made a promise to his dad—to protect me.

They keep saying I'm in danger… but honestly, I don't even know why."
