The next day, Ciel took the day off work to go through some documents in his private study.
He looked through the documents with his sharp eyes, feeling anger with every word he read. The truth he came to know from the documents was worse than he had initially imagined.
The documents have been carefully gathered by Alex, his assistant. It contained everything about Roxanne's mother, Eleanor Renwick, who left her fortune to her two children, Roxanne and Finn.
She had been thorough in her will. The wealth was meant to secure her children's future.
But now, they may not be able to see a single dollar.
Their father had stolen everything.
He had lied to the court to forge documents, and channelled the money into secret accounts.
Every single part of their inheritance had been taken away, and diverted to support Reina.
Ciel felt bad as he thought of everything. Roxanne had grown up thinking she was unwanted and powerless.
And all along, everything should have been hers. It was her mother's fortune. But Derek had robbed her without thinking twice.
He understand Roxanne was strong, she had endured pain and betrayal for too long also, and it didn't seem to break her.
But the fact that her own father had taken everything her mother left her may possibly push her over the edge.
And she was only just recovering from the recent attempt on her life.
He leaned back in his chair with a cold look.
It was not just enough to know this, he needed strong proof, just enough to go after Derek Renwick when it's time.
"I need more evidence," he said quietly.
If he acts with this now, Derek might find a way to get off the hook of justice. But if he's able to get more, then there would be no way out for him.
He was distracted by a knock on the door.
"Come in," he said with a low voice.
Alex walked in with a folder, and a serious face. "Sir, we have gotten more evidence. Derek has been hiding Eleanor Renwick's money in different offshore accounts."
"He has been laundering it through front companies to delete his tracks. If this is made known, he could be sued."
With a cold smile, Ciel said. " This is good. Keep on digging. I want more."
"Yes, boss," The assistant said and left the room.
Derek will soon be apprehended. And Roxanne will be able to have everything that was taken from her.
And when that happens, Derek Renwick would lose everything.
Later that night during dinner, Roxanne was at the table sipping tea from a cup.
Since the poisoning attempt, Ciel had been more protective of her. Almost becoming too protective.
She understood him. Someone had tried to murder her. But she could not let fear overwhelm her life.
He walked into the dinning room, and his eyes saw the cup of tea immediately in her hand.
"Was that cup tested?" He asked with a sharp tone.
Roxanne looked at him and sighed. "Yes, your staff made sure everything was checked. Relax, Ciel." She said, putting down the cup.
"I am not taking any chances. Whoever tries to poison you will not stop till they achieve their aim." He said pulling the cup away from her and looked at it himself.
"You know I can not hide in this mansion forever. I can't live my life in fear." She said firmly.
"I am not saying you need to hide, but you have to be very careful." Ciel replied.
"I am being careful, but I can't win over them if I am trapped here." She insisted. "I want to get back to being out there."
For a moment, he gazed at her. She is determined and he liked that about her.
At last, he said. "Okay, fine. But I am increasing your security. And if anything feels wrong at any time, just call me."
With a faint smile, Roxanne replied. "Okay."
He then leaned down, brushing a lock of hair behind her ear. His next words felt very heartwarming.
"Never again will I let anyone hurt you, Roxanne. No matter what it takes."
At the Renwick Manor, Reina seems frustrated as she converse with her mother.
"Just be easy, daughter. Do not be too hasty."
"I am just tired of waiting!" Reina snapped.
"She keeps surviving everything we throw at her. And now, Ciel is protecting her like some precious egg. If we do not find a way to let her off, she will take everything from me!"
"She will not take anything, because I will not allow her."
An angry, and deep voice rang out through the room.
Reina froze as Derek walked into the room. His face was filled with anger.
"For some reason, she is still standing after everything that has been done to ensure she is out of the picture. She should have been gone by now."
Reina was surprised. She had never seen Derek this angry.
"Well, if Reina had not failed, we would not be here talking about this" Evelyn said with a cool voice.
"I have sacrificed alot for everything to fall apart now. That girl will not win. I wil make sure that does not happen."
"In that case, we need an effective plan. What do you have up your sleeve?" Reina asked.
"Don't worry, this time, we will not make any mistakes." Derek said.
"Good. Now can we just finish this once and for all?" Evelyn said.
The hatred for Roxanne was now collective and strong.
But none of them had any idea what was coming for them.
And whenever the truth finally comes to light, it would definitely destroy all of them.
