Chapter 10 - Chapter 8: The hollow man

The world is quiet now—but Leo's mind is loud. This chapter slows the pace just slightly… so we can watch Leo crack.

He's haunted, confused, trying to rebuild, but the ghost of what happened is everywhere. And just when he thinks he's alone… he isn't

Theme: You don't always get haunted by ghosts. Sometimes, it's by people who are still alive.

Tone: Psychological, eerie, unraveling

📝 Chapter Quote:

"The worst thing isn't being left. It's realizing no one ever planned to stay."

— anonymous message, scratched into a bathroom mirror

🔹 SCENE 1 – Days Without Them (Leo Tries to Restart)

Setting: Leo's apartment, one week after the girls vanished

Tone: Hollow, repetitive, depressive

He wakes up and makes two mugs of coffee.

Realizes no one else is there.

Pours one down the sink.

Again.

His phone is dead silent.

Instagram: empty.

No texts. No missed calls. Nothing.

He checks Nina's account: "User not found."

Amara's: deactivated.

Zara's? Gone.

His group chat: still deleted.

He opens his journal again.

LEO (V.O.)

"If I speak into the silence long enough, will it finally answer me?"

He walks past the mirror.

His reflection doesn't look back.

🔹 SCENE 2 – He Sees Them Everywhere (Triggers)

Setting: Grocery store, subway, random café

Tone: Paranoia, delusional flashes

He sees Amara's scarf on a stranger.

Follows her across the street.

Turns her around — wrong woman.

At a bookstore, he hears Nina's laugh.

Spins around.

Empty aisle.

He stops going outside.

His food is all delivery now.

He eats with the TV on but doesn't know what he's watching.

🔹 SCENE 3 – The First Message (But from Who?)

Setting: His email inbox, 3:17 a.m.

Tone: Chilling

Subject line: Does it feel hollow now?

No sender.

No signature.

Just a link. One photo.

He clicks it.

It's a photo of him asleep.

In his bed.

Taken last night.

He drops the laptop.

LEO (whispers)

"…What the hell."

He runs to the door.

Locked. Deadbolt secure.

Windows? Still latched.

But someone was here.

And they're not done watching him.

🔹 SCENE 4 – Zara's Chessboard (Flashback Cut)

Setting: One week earlier, Zara's office

Tone: Calculated, ruthless

She's watching him through her security app.

Hidden cameras still left inside a picture frame she gifted him months ago.

ZARA (to herself)

"Sleep well, hollow boy."

She turns to Nina and Amara, both seated behind her.

ZARA

"Phase Two begins now."

NINA (cold)

"How far are we going with this?"

ZARA (smiling)

"Far enough that when he breaks… he doesn't know which one of us did it."

AMARA (quietly)

"…What if we're becoming the villains?"

ZARA (without blinking)

"Villains don't cry in the shower for weeks. He did that to us. Now we remind him: this is what being forgotten feels like."

🔹 SCENE 5 – Leo's Breaking Point

Setting: Leo's bathroom, midnight

Tone: Psychological unraveling

He's staring into the mirror. Eyes bloodshot.

He hasn't shaved. Barely eats. Doesn't sleep.

He writes their names in steam on the glass.

Amara. Nina. Zara.

Then below it:

Me.

He punches the mirror.

Shards fall like snow.

His hand bleeds. But he doesn't feel it.

🔹 SCENE 6 – A Knock at the Door

Setting: Same night

Tone: Dead silent tension

A knock.

Three soft taps.

He freezes.

Another knock.

He looks through the peephole.

No one.

He opens the door slowly.

At his feet is a manila envelope.

Inside: Three plane tickets. No names. No destination labels. Just boarding passes.

And a note.

"You still don't know who we really are.

But you will.

The game's not over.

– A.N.Z."

Amara

Time: 11:11 PM

Location: Zara's guest bedroom

Mood: Torn, unsure, unraveling

"We said this would make us feel better.

But it hasn't.

Not really.

Zara sleeps like a stone. Nina stays quiet and cold. And me?

I stare at the ceiling every night wondering if we've become the very thing we were trying to punish.

At first, it was thrilling. The messages, the silence, watching him spiral just like I did. He deserved it — didn't he?

But today… I watched the security feed and saw him curled on the floor with his phone still in his hand. Whispering my name.

Not Zara. Not Nina. Mine.

Part of me wanted to run to him. Slap him. Hug him. Ask why.

Another part of me wanted to whisper, this is what it feels like when you treat someone like a placeholder.

Do I still love him?

I hate that I even asked myself that.

I want to let go.

But I also want him to beg.

Maybe that's the problem with heartbreak — you think closure is clean. It's not.

It's jagged and petty and seductive.

And it never comes when you expect it.

I don't know who I'm becoming.

But I know one thing:

He's not ready for what's next.

And neither am I."

— A.

ZARA

He's finally cracking.

I saw the blood in the sink.

It wasn't part of the plan, but I can't say I'm surprised.

He always performed pain like a monologue.

Now? He's feeling it. And I want him to sit in it a while longer.

He doesn't get to walk through people like doors.

Not anymore.

Not after us.

They say revenge loses power when it turns obsessive — but this isn't obsession.

It's correction.

What we're doing isn't cruel.

It's mathematical.

He broke three of us.

So now? We break him three ways.

– Z.

✒️ NINA

Zara's pretending it doesn't hurt.

It does.

I still dream of the nights he held my face like it was glass.

I remember the playlist he made for me — it still plays on shuffle by accident sometimes, and I can't bring myself to delete it.

He wasn't always a villain. That's what makes this harder.

There were moments I felt chosen.

But when I found out I was just… another echo of someone else's promises?

Yeah. That burned.

Still, watching him unravel hasn't healed me. It's just made everything louder.

I'm not sure if I want closure —

Or a confession.
