Chapter 27 - Shadows Collide

— Shadows Collide

The air inside the Deadly Six hideout hung heavy with smoke and tension. Cainen stood like a storm about to break—fists clenched, eyes burning with a mixture of rage and cold calculation. Around him, the others moved with nervous energy—Rekka pacing, fingers twitching with anticipation; Kaito leaning against the wall, crunching on shrimp chips, his usual casual smirk barely hiding the edge beneath.

Lilith, as always, was a different kind of wild. She twirled her bloodied bat lazily, the cruel grin on her face promising all sorts of madness. She didn't speak much, but when she did, her voice was a sharp razor slicing through the tension.

"Chaos is my favorite game," she said softly, eyes glinting. "Who wants to play?"

Outside, the Low Cut District was a battlefield—streets slick with rain, illuminated by the red glow of fires and the harsh blue of government drones. The Forsaken, a rogue faction once part of the Deadly Six, had escalated their assault, armed with weapons and tactics that screamed desperation and ambition. They wanted the district for themselves, and they wanted it now.

Cainen's jaw tightened.

"They're coming," he said. "We can't wait for them to hit first."

Rekka's gauntlets sparked as he nodded. "They've got numbers. And weapons we haven't seen before."

Kaito flicked a shrimp chip into his mouth. "Let 'em come. We'll send 'em back bleeding."

The first clashes were brutal. In the narrow alleyways, gunfire echoed, punctuated by the sharp crack of Kaito's chained knife slicing through steel and bone. Rekka's gauntlets sent shockwaves that toppled entire squads, and Lilith moved like a nightmare—unpredictable, deadly, laughing as she danced through enemies with her barbed-wire bat.

Cainen fought at the front lines, fists glowing crimson as he broke through enemy ranks, his fiery punches shattering barricades and crushing skulls. Every strike was a message: this was his district, and no one took it from him.

Amid the chaos, shadows shifted. A dark figure communicated through encrypted video inside a government safehouse, their voice cold and calculated.

"The Deadly Six won't fall easily," the figure said. "We need a new plan."

Back in the district, the battle raged on through the night. Explosions rocked buildings, and the cries of the wounded echoed through the smoke. Cainen and Lilith stood on a rooftop overlooking the burning city, their silhouettes sharp against the inferno.

"This war's just getting started," Cainen said, voice low and intense.

Lilith smiled, barbed-wire bat resting on her shoulder. "Then let's make sure they never forget who owns the night."

The fight for the Low Cut District was far from over. Shadows collided, and only the strongest would survive.
