Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Golden Detective

"Don't let him escape!"

Through the alleyways of the big city, a chase was underway. Three police officers pursued a hooded man at full speed.

"Those damn bastards! I don't know how they caught me—it was a perfect plan!"

The man grumbled as he toppled several trash bins behind him.

The officers kept chasing, but stumbled over the impromptu trap.

"Shit! Unit 076, this is Agent Risk. The suspect has escaped and is heading toward the central zone!"

["Copy that."]

Another officer, hidden around a nearby street corner, responded immediately and gave chase the moment he spotted the suspect.

"Ha! You think I'm some rookie?" the criminal sneered, still confident.

He pulled out a gun and stormed into a nearby café.

"Alright, everybody in here—if any cop gets close, I'll blow every single head off!"

The customers panicked. No one expects a criminal to barge in when all they want is a cup of coffee.

"You! Come here!"

The man grabbed a young woman and held her at gunpoint.

"If even one of you tries something, I'll blow this girl's brains out!"

It was a real threat—his tone and stance made it clear he wasn't bluffing.

"The coffee today is really sweet... I wonder why."

Amid the chaos, one man sat as if he were the embodiment of calm.

He wore an old-fashioned suit and hat, elegant but outdated for the times.

His hair was dark brown, like high-quality chocolate, and his eyes glowed green like emeralds.

This man continued sipping his coffee as if it were any normal Tuesday morning at 10 a.m.

"Hey asshole, I'm not playing around!" the criminal shouted, pushing the gun closer to the girl's head.

"No, really... the coffee tastes different. Maybe it's a sweeter brand?"

The man ignored the threat completely, inspecting his coffee like it was the most important thing in the world.

"Do something! He's going to kill her!" someone yelled in panic.

Everyone turned their attention to the man... who simply took another sip.

"You bastard, you bastard..." the criminal let go of the girl and pointed his gun at the calm man.

"This is your last warning. Stop screwing with me. You don't know who I am!"

"Oh, I know. I just wanted more sugar than usual today."

The strange man took out a coin and, for the first time, looked directly at the criminal.

"Now that I've finished my business, let me answer your question."

He flipped the coin into the air with elegant precision. The gleam caught the criminal's full attention.

Thwip!

Before the coin hit the ground, a needle lodged itself into the man's neck.

"You... you..."

The criminal tried to move but collapsed instantly.

"You are the murderer known as Green Ice. You've killed 23 people in just two months. You're known for always leaving a spotless crime scene."

The man retrieved the coin from the floor and placed it gently on the table.

The police stormed into the café and took in the scene.

"Well damn, Bazt was right again. He really did come to the café."

Said the officer in charge, looking toward the man named Bazt.

"Of course he did. He's a smart criminal. I figured it out when I analyzed the case—he'd do anything to escape."

The man adjusted his old-school hat and calmly walked out of the café.

"Enough drama. Let's go interrogate him."

"Whatever you say, Star Detective."

Bazt West, known as the Star Detective, has solved cases even the FBI couldn't crack.

He can predict what criminals will do before they even think of it.

A genius—and the ultimate symbol of justice in the city.

Alright, Green Ice, what do you have for us? Don't get confused—this interrogation is just a formality. We already know you did it."

The person in the room with the criminal was none other than Police Captain Alice.

Known for being as cold as ice, a workaholic machine whose only mission was catching criminals.

Bazt and the others were listening closely from the other side of the glass.

"Yes, I admit it. I committed all the murders. I know I'll go to prison, but the sentence won't be that harsh."

"What do you mean by that?" asked the woman, intrigued. Normally, captured criminals didn't sound that confident.

"I have valuable information about the killer you've been chasing for seven years. The one who brought the entire world to its knees and was never caught."

The woman stood up from her chair, visibly shaken. Everyone on the other side of the glass was stunned.

"The killer... Smile X."

The atmosphere shifted instantly. That name had become a global taboo.

"I'll call the lawyer you requested. In the meantime, write down everything you know."

She handed him a sheet of paper and rushed out of the room, tears welling up in her eyes.

"Miss Alice, are you okay?"

One of the officers caught up to her and handed her a bottle of water.

"I'm fine... It's just—hearing the voice of the man who killed my parents hit harder than I thought."

"Captain Alice, emergency!!"

The lights went out.

Chaos erupted instantly.

"Shit—no, no one leave! Guard the suspect!"

She ordered, her voice shaky as she ran back to the interrogation room.

But when she got there, all she found was Green Ice's lifeless body.

He'd been poisoned. The blue tint on his lips made that clear.

A note sat next to his hand. On it, a smiley face crossed out with an X.

"Everyone, emergency! The enemy is close—stay alert!"

Panic spread like wildfire.

"Humans are such curious creatures... Why lie about things you don't know?"

And once again, just like before—in the middle of all that chaos—there was someone calm.

Watching the scene like a spectator at a circus.

A needle still in his hand, freshly used.

"But it's always better to silence rats who claim to know me,"

said Bazt, his eyes as cold as death.

Detective Number One, Bazt West... and also the Number One killer no one has ever caught:

Smile X.
