The camp members watched in horror. The man on the ground reached for his jaw, trying to stop himself from bleeding. He gurgled, his life fluttering from his body.
A woman within the crowd runs to his aid.
"FELIX!!!!" The woman screamed, her screams almost breaking glass. The pure horror, shock and agony in her screams resonating within those watching.
Daniel walks closer to the woman.
"Sophie, I-"
"Why didn't you shoot it sooner?!" She barely muttered.
"You need to get away from the body." Daniel said, shocking everyone with his lack of sugarcoating.
Before Sophie could respond, Felix's eyes opened again, now white and soulless.
Sophie looked down, shocked and relieved.
"Sophie that's not Fe-" Daniel tries to warn her.
Felix's reanimated body uses both arms to grab each side of Sophie's head. As Daniel rushed forward to help, Felix squeezed as hard as it could. Her eye's, ears and nose bleeding as he squeezed. Sophie didn't see the monster in front of her. She saw her lover, holding her hand. As the corpse of Felix squeezed harder, she saw a zombified version of him, fading as he continued to hold her hand.
Daniel pushed the beast off of her. Stomping on its head over and over, until it halted movement.
Sophie sat, her eyes bulging out her head, her nose and ears bleeding.
"Do.." Sophie attempts to speak, her brain scrambled.
The camp watched, crying and whimpering.
"..it" Sophie spoke. Those two words was all she needed.
Daniel reached for his gun.
"Y'all should look away." Daniel said to the crowd, his voice shivering as he cried.
He looked back Sophie.
"I'm sorry. I could've saved you. I'm so sorry. I tried. I just want you to know that."
BANG.
