Chapter 4 - Against steel

A few days have passed and rumors have been circulating around the empire, rumors about the the 'imprisioned' prince and the unjust treatment of the current King.

The people have been having complaints about life under the rule of King Shekel, some have even moved from their homes and migrated to other kingdoms in search of a better life and more freedom.

Meanwhile, in the Eryndor palace, the crisp autumn air was filled with the sharp clank of metal, as Kamarani and his opponent engaged in a fierce sparring match in the royal training grounds. Today, Kamarani faced not just any opponent, but the eldest son of his uncle, Prince Yaris.

Yaris had risen to prominence within his father's court and was a formidable fighter, trained in the arts of combat and strategy. His presence here was a symbol of both challenge and opportunity. For Kamarani, this sparring match was not just a test of physical prowess but a strategic plot to calculate the loyalty and strength of his enemies.

Kamarani, dressed in empirical yet well crafted armor, gripped his sword tightly, his eyes locked on Yaris. The prince's posture was confident, but there was a sharpness in his gaze that spoke of underlying tension. Their swords clashed with a resounding clang, each strike reverberating through the air as if echoing the silent battle of wills between them.

Yaris's attacks were swift and fierce, reflecting his high status and training. He aimed to overwhelm Kamarani with a flurry of strikes, but Kamarani's defensive tricks were equally skilled. He parried and dodged with precision, his movements reflecting both his strategic mind and physical training.

As the duel continued, it became clear that Yaris's aim was not just to win but to test Kamarani's limits. Each attack seemed calculated to probe for weaknesses, but Kamarani remained focused, countering with both skill and composure.

"You fight well, Kamarani," Yaris said, his voice carrying over the clash of their swords. "But you must know that this I all you can ever be, a training partner. You can never surpass me."

Kamarani gritted his teeth, his mind racing. He understood that this duel was a political test as much as a physical one. Yaris's words were a reminder of the unstable balance of power and the need to be careful himself against not only to his opponents but to the kingdom at large.

Kamarani deflected a powerful blow and seized an opening, launching a counterattack that forced Yaris to step back. The exchange was a dance of strategy and skill, each fighter pushing the other to their limits.

In a final, decisive move, Kamarani enforced a move that disarmed Yaris, his sword coming to rest at Yaris's throat. The match came to a blunt halt as Yaris froze, his expression a mixture of surprise anduspocken fear.

Suddenly, a powerful blast threw Kamarani across the room and his head hit the hard floor.

Prince Yaris had used his lightning strike, altering what was supposed to be a physical fight in to a very unfair duel.

Yaris knew that Kamarani could not use his abilities, when his father took over the throne, he found a sorceress who made bangles that stopped Kamarani connecting with his dragon and that made it impossible for him to use any of his powers, making him nothing less then an ordinary man.

"Enough," Yaris said, lowering his gaze. "It seems that you have proven yourself today, Kamarani. Your skill and resolve are undeniable." he said, looking at the silver bangles that limited Kamarani's full power.

Kamarani used his sword, to get up from the floor, while coughing blood, his whole body aching offering a nod of acknowledgment he said ,"Thank you, your highness."

As the two men sheathed their swords, Yaris extended a hand, a gesture of respect and perhaps, in his way, of approval. Kamarani shook it firmly, not showing any emotion on his face as he looked up at his cousin.

The sparring match had served its purpose, revealing not only Kamarani's skill but also Yaris's recognition of the threat and challenge that Kamarani posed. The outcome was a step forward in Kamarani's favor, but it also underscored the political intricacies that lay ahead.

As they walked off the training grounds, the weight of their confrontation lingered in the air. For Kamarani, the duel was a reminder of the trials that awaited him, both in the realm of politics and personal ambition. It was a glimpse into the formidable challenges he would face as he sought to reclaim his place and fulfill his destiny.

In the quiet aftermath of their clash, Kamarani reflected on the lessons learned and the path ahead. The duel with Yaris was more than just a test of skill, it was a stepping stone in the complex dance of power, loyalty, and destiny that would define his journey.

The cool air of the royal palace seemed to grow colder as Kamarani walked through the grand hallways, his footsteps echoing off the marble floors. The walls, adorned with tapestries and portraits of past monarchs, held memories of a time when his father ruled Eryndor with grace and wisdom. Now, the office that had once been his father's was occupied by King Shekel, his uncle a man whose very presence was a stark reminder of the betrayal that had shattered his life.

Kamarani's heart thumped as he approached the heavy wooden door of the office. He paused for a moment, drawing a deep breath to steady his nerves. The weight of the upcoming meeting, combined with the recent confrontation with Prince Yaris, made this moment particularly tense. He knew that the king's call was not a mere formality but a significant step in the ongoing power struggle.

With a measured hand, Kamarani pushed open the door and stepped inside. The office was grand, filled with dim wood furnishings and richly decorated with emblems of the royal lineage. At the far end of the room, King Shekel sat behind a massive desk, his expression stern and calculating. The king's gaze was fixed on Kamarani, an unspoken challenge in his eyes.

"Ah, Kamarani," Shekel said, his voice cold and formal. "Please, have a seat."

Kamarani approached the desk, his posture straight and his demeanor calm despite the churn of emotions within him. He took a seat in the chair across from Shekel, his gaze meeting his uncle's with a mixture of respect and compliance.

"I understand you requested this meeting, Your Majesty," Kamarani said evenly.

Shekel leaned back in his chair, his fingers steepled before him. "Indeed. I wanted to speak with you regarding the recent events circulating around my Kingdom and even through out the province"

Kamarani met his uncle's gaze with unwavering composure. "What concerns do you have?"

Shekel's eyes narrowed slightly, and he leaned forward, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial tone. "You see, Kamarani, while I appreciate your admirable combat skills and you formidable area's of expertise , I must remind you of the delicate balance of power in Eryndor. Your contribution have not gone unnoticed, but it is important for you to understand the gravity of your position."

Kamarani's pulse quickened at the implied threat. He knew that Shekel's words were not just about politics but a subtle warning. The king was making it clear that Kamarani's presence and actions were being closely monitored.

"I am aware of the responsibilities and challenges that come with my position," Kamarani replied carefully. "My intention is to serve the king and I do not have a second heart."

Shekel's expression remained inscrutable. "Justice is a noble pursuit, but it is also a concept that can be manipulated to serve various ends. I trust you understand that maintaining stability is crucial for the kingdom's prosperity."

Kamarani nodded, his mind racing to decode the full implications of his uncle's words. "Of course, Your Majesty. Stability is important, and I am committed to contributing positively to the realm."

Shekel's eyes seemed to assess Kamarani's every word and gesture. "Good. I am pleased to hear that. However, I want to make it perfectly clear that while I value your contributions, I am also very much aware of your ambitions. Eryndor's future is paramount, and I will not tolerate any actions that could jeopardize the kingdom's stability."

The unspoken threat hung heavy in the air. Kamarani understood that his uncle was asserting his dominance and signaling that any further attempts to challenge his authority would be met with resistance. It was a tactical move designed to remind Kamarani of his place and the limits of his influence.

"Your concerns are noted, Your Majesty," Kamarani said, his voice steady. "I assure you that I will remain mindful of the kingdom's needs and work within the bounds of propriety."

Shekel looked at his brother's son, Kamarani was nothing about his brother and that scared him.

"Which bring me to why I summoned you today, the people are calling him an unjust leader, this happing because of you not making a debut before them along side the royal family." Shekel sighed.

" As you already know that by now you were supposed to have been given your own fiefdom where you can serve the people in behalf of the empirical family."

Sensing what was going to happen next Kamarani knelt down on the floor and did not dared to look up. " You majesty,I do not dare, I prefer to serve besides the king."

Shekel smiled slightly, " I know , I know, that is why I am going to give the people what they want, you will be exiled…."

Kamarani looked up at his uncle quickly, his eyes shaken and he saw the amusement in Shekel's face as he continued "… temporarily, you are a very valuable asset for this kingdom, I can not afford to let you run a whole fief where can I find another strategist?"

Seeing that he was being tested, Kamarani feigned relief, " His majesty is the wisest and I will forever indebted you my King."

Shekel lips curled into a thin, measured smile. "Very well. I am glad to hear that. Remember, Kamarani, the eyes of the throne are always watching. I trust you will keep this in mind as you continue your work."

Kamarani rose from the floor, acknowledging the king's words with a respectful nod. "Thank you for the audience, Your Majesty. I will take your words to heart."

As he turned to leave, Kamarani felt a sense of unease but also resolve. The king's warning was a clear indication of the precarious position he occupied. Shekel's attempt to suppress his influence while maintaining an air of control was a reminder of ha cunning that man was, but unfortunately for Shekel, Kamarani was ten steps ahead.

Stepping out of the office, Kamarani passed the imperial guards at the door and with his back towards them he smirk, how effortless.
