Ruan Chanchan opened her eyes and touched the side of her temple. She had no idea what was going on; all she knew was that the pain was even worse than the hangover she once got when her friend Wen Li made her drink more than three bottles of wine.
Her head was aching as if it had been hit by a hammer.
She waited for a while for the pain to subside and then looked around at the surroundings; all she saw were dense green leaves. Once she had never seen before, she was sure that some of them were coniferous trees, but most of them looked like those Wollemia pines that she had seen in the ancient records that her brother had.
But that was not what made her eyes widen; the fact that the trees were as tall as the sky was what made her eyes pop out of the sockets.
Damn—
"Where am I?" she muttered, a little confused.
However, before Ruan Chanchan could even wrap her head around the sudden changes, she heard a loud roar and turned her head in the direction from which the sound came.
Good news: she found out the source of the roar.
Bad news, the source of the roar was heading straight towards her as if thrown from a great height.
Scared out of her wits but not scared to the point where she would wet her pants, Ruan Chanchan scrambled to one side and dodged the thing that smashed right on the ground where she was sitting just a second ago.
Ruan Chanchan patted her chest when she saw that she had somehow managed to escape the disaster, but that was until the 'thing' got back to its feet and let out a loud, rumbling roar.
Good boy.
If not for the fact that Ruan Chanchan was scared stiff, she would have rubbed her eyes and made sure that she was not daydreaming. Because why in the world was the sabre-tooth tiger standing in front of her? As far as she knew, these beasts went extinct by the end of the Pleistocene age, right?
RIGHT???
Ruan Chanchan was terrified out of her wits.
"Sister, what are you doing there?"
A hand reached out and pulled her back; she raised her head and was stunned when she saw a young boy standing behind her. At least she thought that he was a boy, except for the fact that there were small bear-like ears on top of his head and his golden eyes. There was also a vermilion mark on his forehead that was in the shape of la otus, and he was staring at her with reproach.
He said to her angrily, "I told you not to come out of the cave alone; why did you step out? What if you had been smashed to death just now?"
When he heard that Ruan Chanchan was watching the fight between Shao Xia and Xie Daiyu, Ruan Zeqiu felt like his heart was about to fail.
Ruan Chanchan, on the other hand, listened to the words of the boy and realised that the young boy was speaking another language all along! But if that was the case, how could she understand everything that he was saying? What was going on?
The sound of bones snapping and breaking echoed behind, and Ruan Chanchan turned around, fearing that something or someone had been attacked. However, just as she turned around and looked behind her, she saw a naked woman standing behind her.
Her eyes held a glare as she pointed and roared loudly, "Xie Daiyu, just because you are the son of the tribe leader, do you think you can do anything!? Since you don't want it, then forget it. With this, I have made it up to you."
Ruan Chanchan was already lost enough; she turned to look in the direction in which the woman was pointing and sucked in a breath. On top of the cliff stood one of the most beautiful men she had ever seen. With his tanned skin, inky locks that had silvery highlights and red eyes, he was looking down at the woman who was shouting at him with a contemptuous expression.
His long hair fluttering behind him, Xie Daiyu sneered, "If you want to make it up to me, then you might as well return all the meat, animal skin, and ivory that I have given you and your family. What's the big thing about breaking a bone or two!?"
His words left the woman speechless.
"What don't you dare to do?" Xie Daiyue mocked, causing Shao Xia to squirm uneasily.
"Who wants your lousy things? I will pay you back!" Shao Xia snorted and turned around before leaving.
Once she left, the crowd that was standing silently suddenly started to buzz with excitement.
"What's going on? Why did Shao Xia and Xie Daiyu get into a fight? Weren't they supposed to mate in three weeks?"
"I don't know, but I heard from some cubs that Shao Xia has been hanging around Wen Li."
"Are you talking about that fox beastman that was picked up by Shao Xia a few days ago?" someone gasped.
"That's right. I think Shao Xia betrayed Xie Daiyu—didn't you see how angry he was? She must have done something to let him down and caused him to get angry with her."
A woman clicked her tongue while holding a squirming baby bear and muttered, "That's too much. Has she forgotten? It was Xie Daiyu who saved her life and her family's. He was the one who brought them to the tribe when they had nowhere to go; how can she even do such a thing to Xie Daiyu?"
"Humph." A young woman swaggered over and sat down in the middle of the group before remarking, "I have always said that Shao Xia was not worthy of Brother Daiyu, but no one believed me. Now see! She did such a thing."
Shao Xia hadn't gone too far when she heard the words of the tribe members. She was so angry that her body started to tremble, but she knew that she was an outsider, so she couldn't make a fuss!
Instead, she turned to look at Ruan Chanchan and spat on her, "What are you looking at, fool?"
