Chapter 1 - Lost love

Ava Morrison sat down at her desk, eyes wide. She sighed and continued typing.

"Urgggggggg". She groaned in frustration, banged the desk and placed her head on it.

"Heyyy... You ok?". Erica asked with a look of concern and disdain.

Ava raised her head and stared at her emotionless.

"I'm ok"She said with a forced smile.

Erica's eyes darted at her laptop and she smiled"Writer's block, huh?"

Ava nodded her head affirmatively

"It happens sometimes love..."Erica's smile could brighten the dark. With her spotless white teeth, ebony skin and curvy features, she could as well be a goddess sent to Ava In that moment.

A smile creeped in on Ava

"I know". She said smiling, tucking her brown hair behind her eyes

"We've got a book signing event soon.... You've got to fix that block". Erica said smiling

"I'm trying but it's not working". Eva said pushing her chair back and standing up elegantly. She made her way to the window peeping through the blinds like a child.

"Have you tried relaxing a bit?"

"I can't relax . I've got a lot on my plate, people are expecting this soon and I can't seem to end the fucking book". Ava said throwing her hands in the air displaying her frustration.

"Maybe you can't end it cos there's no ending yet".Erica smiled again and left leaving Ava to ponder on her words.

"I can't do this anymore,Ethan." Ava said with tears in her eyes. Her hair glistened under the moon's glow.

"You're leaving?" Ethan asked as if unaware. Sadness visible even in the middle of the night.

"Yes I am. I hate that I don't mean anything to you anymore...". She said in a whispered tone."Whatever you're pursuing is interfering with us. I have my own issues to deal with but it's always about you isn't it?". Her voice rising in anger.

"You have to be under...." He said trying to touch her but she pulled away and interrupted

"I know I have to understand but I don't. I don't know who you are anymore". Her voice shaky

"You promised to be with me but ever since you got back with your family, I've been nothing to you". She said moving back quietly.

"I haven't seen you in weeks and you didn't reach out and you still won't tell me what's wrong ". She said holding back tears.

"I can't but I will when the time is rig...". She interrupted him yet again.

"When the time is right huh? ". She asked and sniffled, wiping the tears from her eyes.

"When will that be?.... When they're dead perhaps because right now the most important thing to you is pleasing those bastards you call family".She raged on and on

" They don't love you. They only see your potential and they want to exploit it."

"Enough ". Ethan raised his voice in a way that made Ava quiver in fright. He realized his mistake but a bit too late

"Goodbye Ethan.... I really hope I don't see you again".

****

Her phone rang loudly disrupting her thoughts. She sighed quietly wondering why of all days for Ethan's memory to bother her it was today.

"Hey" She said in a whispered tone

"Hi boo.You sound terrible".Rita said casually over the phone.

"Emily told me about your writer's block. It's been quite a while since that happened. Would you love to out with me for coffee sometime soon?"

She smiled. No one knew her better than Rita, her best friend. They're childhood friends who grew up together despite all odds.

"Coffee doesn't seem that bad of an idea". She replied still maintaining her perfect smile

"Ok be fine. I'll see you tomorrow". Rita said in a calm but worried tone.

Ava ended the call without saying a word tired from all the thinking. She sighed and closed her laptop, giving up on writing anything for the day.

"I'm leaving,Julian". She said while leaning quietly at the door of Julian's office. His face became pale and full of worry. His charming face seemed to fade in that instant.

"Are you ok?" He said standing up and walking eagerly towards her . Julian runs Inkwell publishing house and Ava is one of his best editors. Her leaving this early meant something bad to him

"I'm fine. Writer's block". She said and rolled her eyes in annoyance.

"But you've got to end your book"

"I will end it, don't worry "

"Before time lapses?"

"I will"

"Fine, you need rest. Go home and rest". He said calmly and hugged her. His scent filled her nostrils. That lavender scent that filled his office now on her was comforting. He was like a brother to her,One she never had . Always comforting her.

"I will thanks ". She said releasing herself from his grip, bade him goodbye and walked out elegantly.

She got into her car quickly as it was windy. The breeze played with her hair as she drove away , Inkwell publishing house drifted farther away as she moved. She turned on the radio and sang along to the funky song playing, feeling nostalgic and inspired.
