Chapter 43 - Chapter 43: “The Quiet Before the Crash”

When everyone fears a future that hasn't happened yet—paranoia becomes prophecy.

Scene 1: Watchtower - Observation Deck

Elias stands alone, watching Earth spin beneath him.

He seems calm

No smirks. No mocking.

Just… watching.

His eyes faintly glow with residual Omega energy—suppressed, but never gone.

Elias (to himself):

"So that's what I become…

A monster wearing my smile."

But the air behind him crackles.

He knows someone is watching.

Always watching.

Scene 2: Inside the League's Secret Protocol

Batman types rapidly in a sealed Bat-comms chamber.

[SUBJECT: Elias Black]

Surveillance Level: 10

Omega Path Monitoring: ACTIVE

Psychic Resonance Scans: Daily

Behavioral Flags: 3 anomalies logged in last 48 hours

Cyborg paces nervously nearby.

Cyborg:

"If he ever finds out, we're dead before we finish blinking."

Batman:

"Then don't blink."

Scene 3: Elias Notices

In his quarters, Elias opens his system log.

[Identities Hidden Behind Subroutine "Mockingbird Ghost."]

He stares at the data silently.

Then smiles.

Not cruelly.

Curiously.

Elias (quietly):

"I haven't done anything.

And they already fear me like I did."

Scene 4: The Paranoia Festers

At a private roundtable:

• Superman wants to trust Elias.

• Batman demands fail-safe escalation.

• Wonder Woman calls for diplomacy.

• Zatanna warns that magic is growing unstable around Elias.

Zatanna:

"Every time he speaks now… the Weave of Reality pulses.

He's still human… but barely."

They all pause.

Superman (grim):

"If we treat him like the villain… we might make him one."

Scene 5: Elias Leaves a Message

The next morning, in the Hall of Justice…

All members arrive to find a note pinned to the center table, written in elegant handwriting.

"To those watching.

I saw your simulations.

I saw your fears.

I don't blame you.

But I won't explain myself anymore.

You're afraid I'll become a tyrant.

Fine.

Keep watching.

Maybe you'll learn something.

–Elias"

Below it is a glass prism. Inside: a flickering light of Darkseid's Omega energy—contained, stable.

He left them proof he's still in control.

And he left them a choice.

Final Scene: A Fractured League

As the team stares at the note, silence fills the chamber.

Flash:

"So… we're not at war yet?"

Batman (low):

"No.

But the countdown has started."

The camera pans away.

Elias walks through a crowd of civilians on Earth, smiling kindly at a child, offering an old woman his coat in the rain.

He still acts human.

But his shadow stretches unnaturally far.
