Chapter 1 - The Party

They very first locked eyes at a little house party. Both of them had to sneak out of their parent's house, though that wasn't hard when the uncaring eyes were rarely fixed upon them.

She was dressed in a lovely little ensemble, as her mom often let her run wild with her credit card. Almost skin tight black jeans, a nice tight blue crop top with a jacket hanging off her shoulder. She was probably the cutest girl at the party. Her long golden hair seemed to catch the lighting, almost blinding. The palest of skin, with ruby red lips and mysterious emerald green eyes. Kit couldn't stop thinking about how adorable her small nose was. He couldn't stop staring at her period.

Meanwhile, her eyes had finally found his inquisitive dark blues. He was a bit shorter for a guy, and was using that to his advantage by standing behind a friend, but somehow she had still managed to catch them over said friend's shoulder. His dark brown hair was a little messy and just a bit past his ears, and he seemed to like black a lot as his whole outfit was that color. She felt an odd stirring of curiosity in the pit of her stomach staring at him, at those woefully bashful eyes as he had caught on to her looking back.

When Kit tried to sneak another glance, he realized that she was actually walking forward to him. "fuck," was uttered by him, more of a breath than an actual word, and his shaky hand combed through his hair as he wondered what her reaction might be to him having been staring at her.

"Hey, you. It's been so long! How's your mom?" she gushed, hugging him. Kit felt baffled, his throat growing tight at her suddenly enveloping him. The scent of jasmine and lavender filled his nose, as if he had stepped into a flower field. She pulls away, and a small little quirky smile has lifted her lips.

"I've never met you before in my life and my mom is dead." Kit managed to get out, his face tinged slightly red with anger. She made an awkward expression and rubbed her neck with one hand.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to bring up anything painful. One of my favourite things to do to strangers is walk up and pretend to know them. It gets them all flustered." She seemed mildly sheepish as she explained. Kit has become aware that he has been greeted by a social butterfly. "My name's Delorah. Kind of weird, I know. What's yours?"

"My name's Kit." It's off his lips with a tumble, like rapids surging off a waterfall. Delorah is a mysterious ray of sunshine to cross his path, and he feels the warmth from her being around like one would feel while sunbathing. "Why did you choose me?" He's trying to muster his confidence back up after being hit with her aura. He'd never felt so caught off guard by a girl before.

"Nervous? I couldn't tell." She's smiling now and he feels a blush coming on. "Should we go somewhere more private? Your eyes were speaking to me, and now I want to let them know the person inside the shell you're looking at." He was rather surprised by how her sentences were formed, teens didn't talk like that these days. She was an odd one. She was perfect.

"Sounds good to me." His words had almost felt trapped in his throat for a second, as if something had been holding them back. Her hand slid into his and tugged him forward, leading the two to the darkened backyard. Whoever's place this was had been nice on the inside, and it was certainly nice on the outside- white painted benches and a small gazebo with a group of other teens sitting inside. The group looked like they might be partaking in some rather illicit drug related activities.

Delorah led him out to the bench closest to the gazebo, unceremoniously pulling him down onto the wood with a plop. "So, what's your real name then, Kit?" She looked at him- or rather it felt like her eyes looked through him, a glimmer of moonlight shining in them. Kit felt his stomach clench tight.

"Kit's the name i gave myself, and I like to be called by it. I don't see why you'd need my real one." Kit feels his voice get a little harsh, looking away from Del's etherealness. "Sorry. I just don't really like my name. Not much of a reason for it I suppose- it's just been easier for me since I started living as Kit. Like I've become a new person." He slouched back, almost a confident gleam pulling over his blue eyes. Delorah blinks, feeling her heart rate quicken.

"A new person? What was wrong with the old you?" She's almost feeling a bit spooked by this change in his demeanor. Kit seems to scoot an inch closer, or so her paranoid brain wonders.

"He wasn't good enough." Kit's words are still delivered softly, but with an alarming increase in confidence. The shy, flustered boy had practically dripped off of his skin and all that was left was now this eerily calm, almost purring Kit. "Adrian was a pussy."

"Adrian sounds like he was a nice boy." Delorah's voice shakes a little, almost a mirror image of how the boy had talked when he had first seen her. She had never seen a person do this kind of attitude change in front of her, just so seamlessly shifting from shy to bold.

"Kit's a gentleman." He refuses to call himself nice, but he certainly isn't a rude little shit. "And he knows how to give his lady a good time." With that, he stands almost abruptly and slides his hand into hers, pulling her up. "Do you trust me?"

She most certainly didn't.

"Of course." Delorah feels a smirk stretch onto her own lips, giving Kit's hand a little squeeze. For some reason, she was pulled into the danger vibe that he exuded. A little lamb to the slaughter.

A jagged smile crosses his lips. He didn't believe her.

"Good." His voice is as soft as velvet, his word sliding over her skin and leaving her with a shiver. "We're going to have a great time." With that, he pulls her up into the gazebo. She dimly recognizes the smell of marijuana as they step into the mix of 4 boys and 3 girls, all faces she had never seen at school before, but to be fair she might not have paid the best attention. "This is Delorah, guys. Del, this is Tyler, James and Derrick. I don't happen to know the ladies."

"Hello." She manages to get out, as the boys give halfhearted greetings. Kit steps towards Tyler, plucking the joint from his hand. He spins around and presents it to Delorah. Yet again, as if in a daze, she finds herself taking it.

"Yeah of course Kit wouldn't know the girls." James says with a little laugh, making Kit shoot murder eyes at him.

"So, are you guys just sitting out here to smoke pot? I didn't think Katie was against that.." Delorah starts off awkwardly, trying to converse and not seem nervous about the joint in her hand. She also wanted to distract Kit from James who she could tell had made him angry. Was Katie even the name of the girl who threw the party?

"Oh no, babe. What these guys are out here for is a bit dirtier than our lovely green goddess." Kit answered, nodding to the joint. He seemed to relax at the change in conversation. "Don't let that burn up now, hit it or give it back."

Del exhaled a little nervously before bringing the joint up to her lips, wrapping them around it and breathing in the harsh smoke. She tried to keep hitting it but after a few seconds it felt like her lungs were on fire, thus leading to her jerking furiously in a fit of coughs. Kit deftly stepped in and grabbed the joint from her shaking hands.

Once she was able to focus on her surroundings again, a faint tapping noise caught her attention. She turned her gaze from Kit- who was now hitting the joint with ease, over to the other boys in the gazebo. James now had a wooden tray in his lap, chopping at fine white powder with a debit card.

He noticed her eyes on him, and a smirk slowly came across his lips. "You want a little go? It's not the cleanest but it'll get you to where you wanna be, lil cutie." His eyes were gleaming. James had most likely assumed that Delorah and Kit were a thing, he had it out for Kit ever since the asshole broke his best friend's nose a few months ago.

"She doesn't fuck with that shit." Kit spoke coldly, his voice almost having a trace of frost. His eyes were like daggers."Stop trying to drag people down your fucked up life." His jaw was clenched and delorah felt intimidated just by the sight of him.

"What's wrong? Does Adrianna want a toot? Are you just fucking lusting after it?" James set his tray down and stood up, getting almost face to face with kit, a cloud of smoke from the still lit joint wrapping around them.

"If you know what's good for you, you'll shut up." Kit warned, and almost the sound of his voice was deadly. However, James seemed immune to his poison.

"You know, I heard from a few different guys that you sucked their d-" James didn't get the rest of his sentence out, as Kit had effortlessly swept his legs out from under him and had him crashing to the ground.

"You just don't know when to stop flapping those lips of yours, do you?" Kit snarled.

James started to laugh, which delorah thought he must be insane for. "You know, everyone is scared of you around school. But I don't see why. All it takes to rile you up is to say something in front of the one girl you haven't scared off yet."

A smirk found its way onto his lips and he looked over at Delorah. "Do you even know him girly?"

James's words really seemed to ignite something in Kit. His eyes wildly looked around before grabbing the joint from Tyler's hand, who was pale from fear. Once he had it, he pressed a knee to James's chest and hit the joint.

"Keep my fucking name out of your pathetic hole, maggot." The way Kit had practically seethed the words reminded Delorah of all the times she had seen a villain facing off against a hero. Coldly, he then shoved the still burning joint into the other boys cheek. Delorah smelled something awful as the other boy yelled out in pain and before she even knew it, her feet were running.

She didn't stop until she was crashing onto the grass on the other side of the house, the gazebo now out of sight. The weed and shock from seeing that sweet boy be so ruthless to another had left her brimming with a cocktail of anxiety and adrenaline.

"You okay?" A girl Del recognized from school was approaching her. The girl was adorable, and her deep brown eyes were laced with concern for her.

"Yeah im fine haha, there's a fight over there and it just had me a little spooked." Del smiled up at the girl as she stood on shaky legs.

"Oh boy. Let me guess. Kit pissed someone off or someone pissed Kit off?" The other girl asked in amusement.

"Is he really that notorious for trouble?" Del felt a small feeling of excitement growing in her gut, an emotion she couldn't understand in that moment. He hadn't gotten his claws in her that quick, had he? They had talked for a total of not even five minutes, and yet she couldn't seem to stop thinking about him.

"Yeah he's- he's coming this way." the other girl stammered nervously. "It was nice to meet you. I'm Cassie. I'll see you around." With those words, Cassie walked off as quick as she could, allowing Kit the space to close in on Delorah.

"Did I scare you?" Kit's voice had yet again softened to the tone she had first heard him use. Now, she was starting to wonder which side of him was real- and which one was the act.

"You were just defending your honor, druggie boy. How could I be scared of that?" If he could act, so could she. She could be confident and playful. Most of all, she could be strong.

"You still look a little green." Kit commented, somehow embodying both casualness and concern. He didn't believe her for a second.

"I'm really fine." if she was going to convince him, she'd have to try harder. "There's usually a fight once a week in the cafeteria at school." Not that she ever ate there, but providing details usually helped to sell a lie.

"Fair enough." A smile spread over Kit's lips. He knew damned well he had never seen her in the cafeteria, but he found it charming that this girl was trying to lie to him. That she cared to still talk to him even after he had scared her with that display of power. Maybe he could let her in. Maybe, she was just like him but before….that happened.

"Do you want to get out of here to my place? I wouldn't let you touch those freaks' drugs, it was probably stomped on all to hell, but I got better stuff at home." He leaned in closer, letting his breath tickle her ear. "It's a ten minute walk with me from here, sweetheart."

Delorah felt her heart start to thump wildly again, both at his words and his actions. His breath felt so hot, and it definitely seemed to be muddling her mind. This was a game of chicken, one that Kit had seemingly played before. She however, had no prior experience up until five minutes ago.

"That sounds like a good time to me " her voice was almost raspy as she replied, giving the illusion of someone much more mature than her.

"Alright, let's go."

Delorah would never forget how happy he seemed to be as they walked to his house. It was too late to go back now, her name was signed on his devilish contract with blood red ink. She didn't know what she had traded her soul for, but she knew whatever it was would be a lot better than sitting around her lonely house.
