"Are you ready?" my great-grandfather asked, his voice steady yet laced with a solemn undertone.
I swallowed hard and gave a slow nod, afraid that if I opened my mouth, the fear in my voice would make him rethink everything.
He studied me for a moment, then gave a small nod of his own. "Then brace yourself."
With a flick of his hand, the world around us dissolved. The human realm vanished like mist in the wind, and the next moment—barely the blink of an eye—we were standing on the edge of the immortal realm.
