Chapter 4 - THE DOCKS

In the morning, Dick and his partner, Aaron Cash drive around Bludhaven on patrol. Cash notices that Dick seems distracted. Dick is still thinking about Barbara.

"Seems like you have a lot on your mind." Cash says.

Dick snaps out of it and chuckles.

"Yeah, I had a long night, last night. So, what brings you to Bludhaven?" Dick asks.

"Well, I heard how bad crime was here. Thought I could help out, you know?"

"Yeah, I get that. More than you know."

"Came here for the same reason?"

"One of them. I felt like I went as far as I could in Gotham, especially when it comes to fighting crime."

"Ah, got tired of the big bad bat?"

"You have no idea."

Dick then notices three guys cornering a young woman in an alley. They pull over and Dick quickly gets out and jumps into action.

"Hey Grayson, wait up."

When one of the men raises his hand towards the woman, Dick catches it.

"Didn't your mother ever teach you not to hit a lady?"

He then kicks the thug in the chest, knocking him to the ground. A punch is thrown at him, but Dick blocks it and smashes another thug across the face with a trashcan lid. The third thug pulls out a knife, but gets knocked out by Cash with a gun. Dick then walks over to the girl and puts his jacket around her.

"You ok?" Dick asks as they walk out of the alley.

"Yeah, those guys were just ass holes, that's all." She tells him.

Dick then notices how raggedy her clothes are.

"You've been on the streets, haven't you?"

"I don't see how's that any of your business." The woman says through tears. He puts her arm around her in comfort. He then reaches into his pocket and pulls out some money and a card.

"Catch a cab to Gotham, go to Wayne Enterprises, tell them Dick Grayson sent you."

The young woman looks at him in shock. She then takes the money and the card and walks away. Cash then walks up to Dick and smiles.

"I guess it's true what they say about you." Cash says.

"And what's that?"

"You have a saving people problem."

As the two chuckle, they hear a police report that a body was found near the docks. They quickly get into the car and drive to the crime scene.

When they make it to the docks, they see the dead body.

"What we got?" Dick asks the two cops.

"Guys name is Martin Jones. People say he's been working at the docks for a year now, guess he didn't know how to swim. Drowned last night." One of the cops says.

Dick then notices something about the body.

"Are we sure the cause of death was drowning?"

"What are you thinking?" Cash asks.

Dick pulls down Martin's collar to reveal a broken neck.

"Last time I checked, drowning doesn't cause you to break your neck." Dick says.

"Maybe he fell and slipped into the water?" The other cop suggests.

"No, there's no way he could have slipped, broke his neck, and fall into the water. We got any witnesses?"

"No, everyone went home." The cops answer.

"How convenient. Looks like we have murder on our hands. Check with anyone he knows, see if someone wanted to get back at him. Check any surveillance footage, see if there's anything to see."

The cops agree and get to work. Aaron then walks next to Dick.

"This isn't the first time a body popped up near the docks, is it?" Cash asks.

"No, a forklift accident happened a few months back."

"Any suspects?"

"Just one. Henry Sanders, he's the guy who runs the docks."

"Not enough evidence?"

"More like not enough people looking for evidence. But that will change."
