Recap: The hand was familiar and from the corner of her old eyes, Ophelia saw wisps of red hair fall onto a familiar face's shoulder. So when the owner of the hand asked her to stop what she was doing, Ophelia listened this time and let the stone in her hand fall to the ground. When they asked her who she was again, she turned around, straightened, looked them in the faces, and said, "I am Jendayi"
If Ophelia hadn't been there, if she was told by someone else, she wouldn't have believed the shock on the faces of those who stood with the gingerhead or the shock of those who were outside their homes. It seemed to her that the whole town at least as far as her eyes could see had gathered to see her though why they would do that was beyond her. Some were discreetly listening while doing outdoor chores or pretending to while others openly looked on from the safety of their homes or standing on their balconies so the shock she saw was widely spread.
