Chapter 13 - Chapter 10: What Broke?

Shen Wu really wanted to say he didn't peek; it's just that his senses are sharper than most people's. Besides, Wen Ran is still very young, and he truly isn't interested. Unfortunately, Wen Ran didn't believe him and drove Shen Wu a hundred meters away before hastily putting on her clothes.

She pulled out a Heart Cleansing Pill and swallowed it immediately. The Heart Cleansing Pill is meant to help disciples focus during cultivation. Wen Ran thought, since she couldn't find any blood pressure medication, she'd just use the Heart Cleansing Pill for that purpose.

In this world, she's only seventeen, still a young girl, yet she already has to take blood pressure medication. It's all thanks to Shen Wu's doing.

Shen Wu came over, seemingly unaware of being disliked, with a clean smile on his face. "There's a path over there, Ranran, let's head that way."

Wen Ran didn't want to walk; she pointed to the hole above and said, "Senior brother, can't you take me and fly up with sword control?"

Right, for these cultivators, sword flight is standard. Since they could fly straight out of the hole, why bother finding another way out?

Wen Ran now had almost no Spiritual Power left, and couldn't possibly perform sword flight, but Shen Wu could!

To her surprise, Shen Wu showed a saddened expression, "Sorry, Ranran, while scouting the path earlier, I encountered several Demon Beasts, and while dealing with them, my sword broke."

Wen Ran was shocked, "That was a Treasure Sword gifted to you by Old Man Wen!"

Shen Wu's sword was called the Seeking Flaws Sword, a Treasure Sword that had existed since the founding of the Ascension Immortal Mansion. The Master had changed a dozen times, yet the sword remained unscathed, how could it just break like that!

No, the sword indeed broke.

But that was in the later stages of the plot, when Shen Wu, trapped in the "chasing after a wife" scenario, spiraled into darkness and became a demon. The Seeking Flaws Sword, being a sword meant to vanquish demons, could no longer be wielded by him.

Thus, Shen Wu destroyed the sword himself, symbolizing his resolute departure from the right path in his obsessive pursuit of love.

But the broken sword incident was supposed to be in the plot's later part, so why did it break now?

Shen Wu reached out, and in his hand were indeed the two halves of the broken Seeking Flaws Sword.

Wen Ran could almost imagine how devastated Old Man Wen would be upon seeing the broken Seeking Flaws Sword. She was speechless for a long time, "Senior brother, you do know that among us Sword Cultivators, there's a saying that the sword is our other half's life, and a rule that where the sword is, there also must be the practitioner?"

"I've heard of that before."

"So, senior brother…" Wen Ran smiled, "Let's make a deal. I won't tell anyone your sword broke, but once we get out, you must annul our engagement. Then, you can secretly find a skilled craftsman to repair the Seeking Flaws Sword, how about that?"

Oh, there's this way out too!

Shen Wu's black eyes sparkled like fallen stars, with light flickering, "What Ranran said is indeed a way."

"So, senior brother agreed to my deal?"

Shen Wu nodded, "I agree."

He couldn't not agree, thought Wen Ran. After all, there wasn't any deep affection between them, and compared to the broken sword being a stain on his Sword Cultivator career, annulling the engagement was certainly a more profitable choice.

The broken sword disappeared from Shen Wu's hand, and he fell into trouble again, "But you want me to take you up with sword flight to leave through the hole, I don't have a sword, it's really hard to do."

"It's fine, you can use my sword." Wen Ran conjured her own sword, the Luoxia Sword. Though the Luoxia Sword couldn't compare to the Seeking Flaws Sword, it was still a rare, excellent sword, procured with great effort by Old Man Bai, and most suitable for her physique.

Shen Wu smiled, "That's good."

He took the Luoxia Sword from her hand, and suddenly, there was a "crack."

Wen Ran paused, "Senior brother, did you hear something strange?"

Shen Wu wore a perplexed expression, "I didn't."

A series of gentle "crack" sounds followed.

Shen Wu looked down, suddenly realizing, and earnestly reminded Wen Ran, "Ranran, your sword broke."

As he finished speaking, the cracks on the Luoxia Sword spread, and it completely broke into two pieces.

Wen Ran's mouth twitched, "What happened to my sword?"

"It broke."

"Wha… broke?"

"Your sword."

Faced with the unwilling-to-accept Wen Ran, Shen Wu very earnestly helped her grasp the reality.

"My sword!" Wen Ran hugged her disconnected Luoxia Sword, about to cry but with no tears. The sword that had been with her since she was six, helping her fish in ponds and climb trees to get bird nests, unexpectedly broke just like that! She glared at the seemingly innocent white-clad youth, "Shen Wu!"

"Ranran, I understand how you feel, but looking at it another way, Luoxia and Seeking Flaws are together now. Alive they couldn't share a bed, but in death, they share a grave. They will be happy."

But she is unhappy right now!

Shen Wu remembered something, "Speaking of, we Sword Cultivators have a saying that the sword is our other half's life, and a rule that where the sword is, there also must be the practitioner…"

"Senior brother, you found the path over there, right? Alright, let's not waste time; let's set out now and find the exit as soon as possible. Maybe we can still make it in time for dinner."

Ranran really sees things openly.

Shen Wu cast her a gleaming look of admiration.
