Chapter 24 - Chapter 21: If You Don't Buy It for Me, I Won't Eat

Wen Ran walked over holding a sugar figure with a bite taken out of it. She looked at it expressionlessly for a while and asked coldly, "Senior Brother, you said I eat a lot, so what's the meaning of this?"

At this moment, Shen Wu still had the appearance of a polite gentleman, he spoke gently, "Ranran, it's already midday, yet this old gentleman is still here."

Generally, things like buns and dumplings are sold as breakfast, and now it's already noon, but this old man hasn't left. You can only assume his business is too bad.

Wen Ran looked at the elderly man whose face was covered in deep wrinkles, his hands calloused. His sunburned, dark face was also slightly red from the sun.

Wen Ran suspiciously glanced at Shen Wu, surprised that he was being so helpful, but she couldn't criticize him for spending money on so many buns any longer.

Shen Wu, holding a bag of buns, suddenly paused.

Wen Ran asked, "What's wrong?"

He turned his head, and even with the white veil of his reed hat covering him, Wen Ran could imagine the innocent look he was giving her.

He said, "I can't fit it in."

By "can't fit it in," he meant his Storage Space was already full.

Wen Ran found it incredible, "Are you joking with me?"

Back then, Old Bai gave Wen Ran a bracelet, while Shen Wu received a Jade Pendant. Though these Magical Treasures were small, their space was at least the size of a three-bedroom apartment. Wen Ran considered that she had a lot of stuff, but she'd never filled it.

Shen Wu slightly tilted his head. Even though his expression wasn't visible, the overwhelming helplessness emanating from him was palpable.

Since being tricked by him many times, Wen Ran wouldn't easily believe him anymore. She reached out her finger to touch the Jade Pendant hanging at his waist, releasing some Spiritual Power. Technically, once a Magical Treasure recognizes a master, it won't allow others to probe it unless the other person's Cultivation is higher.

Wen Ran's Cultivation was, of course, no match for Shen Wu's, only because Shen Wu didn't refuse. After releasing a bit of Spiritual Power, Wen Ran saw the state inside the Jade Pendant's space and was stunned.

A space that large was packed with all sorts of things, including the buns he just put in, various plants she couldn't recognize, and assorted wild fruits. Among those fruits, there were the red ones she'd tried once before.

At that time, the sourness of the fruit almost made her teeth fall out, but he ate it with relish. Who would have thought he had stored so many red fruits in there?

Looking at the heaps of green plants, Wen Ran suspected they were edible herbs, but as for the taste... it was surely not very good.

Wen Ran looked at Shen Wu in disbelief, "Are you a hamster?"

Shen Wu was bewildered, "Do I look like a mouse demon?"

"Then why are you storing so many wild fruits and vegetables?"

"I'm afraid of going hungry."

Wen Ran couldn't comprehend his logic, "Even if you're afraid of starving, you could store some normal food. Aren't those fruits horrible to eat?"

"They're not poisonous, so why not eat them?"

She felt like there was a generation gap between them, no, Wen Ran frowned, how did she never know Shen Wu also loved eating so much before?

The old man asked nervously, "Young man, do you want the rest of these buns?"

Shen Wu didn't answer and looked at Wen Ran instead.

Wen Ran gritted her teeth and finally said "Yes," so all the remaining buns went into her Storage Space, awkwardly placed among her pile of clothes and jewelry.

After Wen Ran stored the buns away, she suddenly realized and stopped walking, narrowing her eyes at him, "Did you really buy out the buns because you wanted to help the old man?"

Shen Wu, still nibbling on a bun, was puzzled, "Help others?"

"Didn't you buy all the buns because you felt sorry for the old man standing guard at the stall since morning?"

"Ranran, what are you thinking?" The boy's voice had a simple laugh, "I bought them because the weather is getting hotter, so before the buns go bad, I bought them. Eating spoiled buns would cause stomach aches."

He purely bought them for the buns' sake. After all, buns are portable, filling, and have no relation to helping others.

Before she thought he might not be so bad, but now Wen Ran felt she was an idiot.

Wen Ran chomped down on the sugar figure in her hand as if she was biting someone.

As she walked, she noticed the figure beside her was gone. Wen Ran quickly turned around and saw Shen Wu standing at a stall not far away.

It was a stall selling small toys, displaying cloth tigers and dolls—little things kids liked.

The vendor saw Shen Wu standing still and quickly shook the rattle, smiling, "I have good goods here. Would you like to buy some for the kids to play with?"

Shen Wu nodded, "Yes."

Wen Ran hurried over to stop his hand from reaching for money. She smiled, "Senior Brother, where did you get any kids?"

He also smiled, "Ranran is still young, isn't she just a child?"

"... so you're saying this is for me?"

"Yes." He nodded seriously, then added, "I'll test it first to see if it's fun."

He tried to pull his hand away to pay, but Wen Ran pressed his hand down, whispering, "Senior Brother, we haven't reached Hidden Abyss Valley yet. We've already spent a lot on this journey. We need to restrain ourselves now."

With that, she dragged Shen Wu forward. She hadn't played with something like a rattle since she was three. Why was he spending money on such frivolous things now?

Shen Wu walked slowly, frequently looking back, reluctant to leave the rattle.

On the roadside, a child cried in front of a confectionery shop, "Mom! I want this! I won't eat if you don't buy it for me!"

The child's mother, with a headache, said, "Alright, alright, stop yelling, I'll buy it for you."

Only then did the child stop crying, pulling the mother's hand and rushing into the shop.

Shen Wu suddenly stopped walking.

Wen Ran couldn't move him and looked up at him, feeling a bad premonition.

After steeling his emotions for a while, he asked pitifully, "Ranran, I want that. If you don't buy it for me, I won't eat anymore."

His grievance surpassed even the crying child's.

Passersby cast curious glances over.

Wen Ran raised her hand to cover her face, feeling ashamed!
