Anger was contained within her sorrow as if she were feeling deep rage and resentment.
She did not even know who or what she was angry at.
All that she knew was that the current situation was unfair and she hated it.
Ash hated how she had to lose someone again.
She hated how such a thing could happen to her a second time.
She hated how she had so many unresolved things that could have been said or done with Max, just like with her mother.
She hated how she failed to realise that her feelings for Max were not so shallow and small.
She hated how she knew all of that in the present, but there was nothing that could have been done about it, whether it was in the past or the present.
Logic told her that getting too involved with Max would only bring him trouble and put him in danger, so she kept a distance so that he would not become a weakness for her that others could use against her.
