Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: In Mother's bosoms and father's plans.

'I have always wondered to myself...what would happen if I die?'

'A reccuring thought that makes me wonder in uncertainty of meeting her again in a wonderful place or be forever alone in the abyss.'

'I didn't know, all of my thoughts was always hoping that it'll be fine if I drift away and be lost in the darkness but what I didn't expect was a powerful nudge force me to stumble into a vacuum where I once again found the light albeit a bit pinkish and blurry than usual.'

"It's a boy!" A female's voice declared signifying the arrival of myself into this world yet this added a question to me...Was I reborn into a another body? I wanted to ponder more but a painful sensation swept my buttocks.

"UWAAAAAAAA!"

"A healthy baby!" The doctor swathed cloth around me.

"Now, now, now you can take him Ms. Olivia." She placed me beside my mother who I didn't see yet but her ragged breathing was evident.

"Thank you, Doctor sha-." My new mother, even though I didn't know her well had quite a soft voice indicating her kindness and fragility.

"Rest Ms. Olivia. Thank me later."

She sighed, "Alright."

"Well...I shall excuse myself for now."

My mother named Olivia caressed me with her smooth fingers, "Your name will be Martes..." she declared as she kissed me on my forehead.

(3 years later)

'I never expected this...I am once again a baby under tutelage.'

'Is this what they call reincarnation? Did my karmic balance align in favorable conditions although I've done more selfish things? I honestly don't know and I would rather stay nestled in my mother's embrace, I had always yearned for familial love and the way my mother cared for me contrasts the way my previous parents treated me. Here I wasn't threatened and wasn't working all day to support my parents' vices. Here I am free and loved, I am not ashamed to ask for something from my mother as she would provide it in the way she can, but I never demanded anything expensive but just a few things that I always wanted to experience since I didn't have a childhood.'

'This was therapeutic for me, it healed certain parts in my mind that I didn't think I needed.'

'Yet the carefree life I had was once again overtaken by the constant anxiety that it would fade away earlier than I thought it would. The constant reports about monster attacks which I didn't pay attention to are now becoming evident in the news.'

'I've made considerable progress with my time here like training myself to walk, talk, and even write in their own language which was Japanese. My mother Olivia was always complimenting me on everything I did, from learning how to walk, talk and write, it was open to see that she was proud of me and what I have become, I knew much more than her but for me I need her to fill the void that I've been constantly plagued with, So till now I am still thinking of myself as a selfish person yet in her presence I think it was only a lie that I especially crafted for myself to be indifferent in my previous world and here...I don't need it. I am already grateful that I am now living the peace I had always hoped for.'

'One thing that always bothered me a lot was the identity of my father, he was missing a lot of moments that we should have enjoyed together with my new mother, but I didn't even see him return even once here, so I asked her.'

"Mom, where's Dad?"

"Your dad? Well, He is patrolling the borders right now, and I know that when you meet him he will hug you tightly and squeeze you like how I would be doing right now mwhehehe!" She hugged me before tinkling me in the back which I giggled back and forth.

"Stop! Mommy stop! gihihihi!" She stopped and looked me in the eyes, her eye color was like crystallized green which held various emotions like love yet it always gave off a melancholic feeling when she looked away.

"I love you, don't be sad mom..."

"I know...I love you too my baby Martes..."

-----Martes' Father's POV-----

'Mother Earth has been angry at us humans for a while now, and it is becoming more evident when the monster attacks more often here, I guess the world wars had really scarred her yet the government has been passive to our calls and even overestimated our capability to fend off the monsters, I mean we are losing a lot of good men here and it would only be a matter of time we are overrun due to the daily halt of repairs on the walls we've built which was under constant supervision of the monsters below if we tried to let someone repair them that would be like using a human as a fish bait.'

'I'm not ignorant to the happenings of this world filled with nothing more than the greed of humans and how it can become the origin of the monsters, I know about this due to the research I've done in the past but perhaps it came to an end fast when monsters started appearing left and right to Z-city and now all capable personnel are called forth to defend the city however it isn't going well, I just hope that everything will be fine in the end and the government will somehow try to answer us by sending powerful individuals to neutralized the monsters...'

'I didn't flatly start as a soldier but I was a scientist in my younger years even though I stopped researching 4 years ago, I still managed to create a low-quality serum in my hidden lab that could help my son awaken his talent. I already tested it on myself and confirmed that it helped my body go from an average Joe to near superhuman levels coupled with the fact that it helped me regenerate at a fast speed similar to a honey badger...It's not that much due to the fact that it is low quality for now, yet I am still improving it and I don't want any of this information to be disclosed to people that I don't trust and in fact, I only trust myself in this research of mine.'

'I don't know how much time it would take me to produce a much more potent serum but I'm determined to make it the best for my son because I know that in the future, monsters and humans will eventually evolve to grow to be more dangerous as time passes by just like how I became strong by drinking a serum I created broke, so I'm also assuming that some people out there are much smarter and have more funds than me and could surpass me by a lot. Same for monsters.'

'My estimations that I'll be able to complete the best serum is somewhat still in its testing period yet I guess in about 2 more years I could perfect it.' I came up with another idea and immediately scribbled it on a piece of scratch paper.
