Chapter 39 - Ruined Perfection

After having discussed all of that, there was just one problem left. That was ab oversimplification, but the main problem with getting Lily, and possibly Andrew into the school was money. There are usually high costs for anyone who wishes to attend at this school, however Yamato and Yuki bypassed that by the way they entered the school. Somewhat like a scholarship, one could say. Not that uncommon for very gifted individuals, as it was profitable for the schools reputation to have people that might become successful one day have graduated from their school. Well, they did have the stolen valuables, and the leftovers from the money Elara gave Yuki, which would be more than enough together… However the right thing to do would be to give it back and confess, hoping professor Reed would take it like a joke and be impressed enough by their skills to let them enter just like that. Or maybe they would pass as prodigies? They are only ten after all, yet were able to outpace Yuki. Lily was at least, which lead to the next problem. Andrews abilities. He claimed to be on par with Lily, but he also seemed like an arrogant, lying brat. They would have to test him before trying to convince professor Reed of letting them enter in the middle of the year. So why not start with that? They decided to let them keep the things they stole for now, except Yuki's necklace of course, but instructed them to not spend or sell any of it. They instead gave them enough money from the "Elara's money supply stack" to stay at an inn until tomorrow, where they would meet outside the city walls. It wouldn't be a problem since Yamato and Yuki would not have school anytime soon. After they settled that, Yamato and Yuki went back to the school. All attempts from Andrew to just run off with the money where punished by Lily, as she refused to betray Yamato, having Andrew give up on it completely only three attempts of convincing later.

Back at school grounds, some students were still yelling at the guards, though most of them chose to go back to their rooms as it was getting late now. Walking through the gates, the guard wondered.

"Didn't you two come back earlier…? But I didn't let you back out again!"

Right, Yuki flew over the fence in as she tried to catch, or more kill, Lily with the bag, instead of going out normally. Yamato just walked out as he oddly didn't find a guard at the time, and didn't have time to wait as he thought if he waited any longer Yuki would end up killing half a dozen people or more. Now it looked like they snuck out without permission, which they did.

"Uh… Yes you did."

"No I didn't!"

"Yes you did! We said we had to leave again cause we forgot something at the restaurant. Y'know, the one we told you about when you asked where we "two love birds" went. Your words by the way."

"Uhm… No, I was on break…"

"After we went back out maybe. You even commented on the dress I wore, and how we would look good together as a couple! Was there so little meaning behind those words that you already forgot?!"

"I could've sworn you both wore school uniforms… Uhm… Ah, no! Of course not, I remember now! The red dress, yes. I'm sorry, it was a busy day. Did you find what you where looking for?"

"Yes, why thank you! We won't leave again today, but tomorrow, so you should write those things down next time so you don't get mixed up or something."

"Yeah… Maybe I should… Oh, just go on ahead."

Then they entered and went back to their rooms, calling it a day. Yuki still had to repair her shelves, which she ripped out earlier in her calm response to noticing her necklace missing. Which she from now on would wear so it was never out of her sight.

Alone in her room, Yuki was lying on the bed staring at the ceiling, looking at the necklace she valued enough to kill children for, which she did not feel guilty about. She ended up not doing it anyway, so whatever, she thought. What actually happened today? It started with her waking up next to Yamato, having breakfast together with him, feeding him, all with no distractions. Then they even went out, she got told that she had an interesting perspective, a high praise from Yamato now that she thought about it, followed by her feeding him again and them going back to finish off their perfect day. From there everything went downhill… Robbed of what she had now retrieved, it destroyed the day completely. Something she would never allow to ever happenagain. Then she hunted down the thief, which was frustrating on its own. She even had to go through some gross alleys, however nothing noteworthy happened in them. Then the worst thing of the day… Andrew and Lily… She hated them both for different reasons. Andrew, disrespectful to both her and even Yamato. Unacceptable! Lily, who seems to somehow gotten into Yamato's favor. Unacceptable! Though she was certain Yamato was manipulating her since the moment he and Lily met, so much so that she even sides with him over her own brother. But even though she knew that, she hated it. The last fun thing that happened was toying with the guard, which Yamato seemed to find entertaining, so she felt proud of doing that. As she pondered about what to do, there was a gentle knock on her door. It was dark by now, who could it be? Maybe Yamato, who could no longer sleep without having her by her side? She jumped up with that in mind, skipping to the door as fast as she could. Disappointment was written all over her face when she saw Arina waiting infront of her door.

"Oh… Hey. Come on in…"

"Uh, is everything alright? You look down… If it's a bad time, I can come back tomorrow…"

"No, no, it's fine. Just sit down wherever."

Yuki climbed back into the bed and laid flat on her back, looking back up against the ceiling. Everything felt so empty without Yamato… Every word, every interaction, just a farce to survive the hollow place inside her heart.

"So, what brings you to me, Arina? Is it the thing about your sword? I'm sorry I brushed you off before. Now I have time for you."

"That would be nice, but I wanted to apologize as well… I have been assertive and selfish in my desire for an answer, which was very inconsiderate. I should've waited for you to make time for me, instead of forcing myself on you."

"That's nice to hear. I'm glad you see it that way. I understand your curiosity, so don't worry about it…"

"Ah… I wish Master would force himself on me…"

She sounded normal to Arina, however internally her tone was much more monotonous.

"So, you said your sword exploded after charging up, as in, created a shockwave and everything."

"How can I lie about this without telling her how weird it is that she was able to use that…"

"That's right. In my fight against two class 1 students it seemed as though every hit resulted in some form of energy that the sword channeled onto my last strike, which resulted in everyone, even me getting knocked away."

"Uh huh… That's the… Uh, special ability of the sword, yes. It gets stronger with every attack you block or hit. It requires a lot of talent and skill to use, so I wasn't sure if you could use it already. Very impressive, you're a natural."

"But I hit myself too with it…"

"Yeah, that sucks. But if you train enough, you should be able to let the shockwave hit only who you want it to hit."

"Really? That sounds amazing!"

"It is… I'll teach you when I have the chance. Tomorrow won't work though, maybe the day after that won't either. I will just come to you when I have time. You can train by yourself in the meantime if you want."

"I will!"

"Great… So, was that all?"

"Yes. Thank you for your help and good night!"

Arina looked excited as she left, which Yuki had no opinion on. She fell asleep, even though she did not need to sleep for more than 15 minutes, it felt like a good way to just relax. She ended up only sleeping two hours, which felt like an eternity and decided to just go to Yamato's room and cuddle up to him instead. As she walked through the dark corridor, she found the silence somewhat soothing. It felt different from the silence in her room. The bigger the room, the louder the silence, she thought. As she walked outside the building towards the building of the boy dorms, she looked at the moon. How bright it was, as the only source of light in the night. Are the sun and the moon enemies, because the moon is only loved for reflecting the light of the sun, when he on his own has no light at all? Are they lovers, who exist to share the light of the sun together to the earth? Or are they just friends, trying to make the vastness of space a little less empty? What is earth to them? An unwanted but necessary bystander, required to keep the moon in place so it can see the sun? The misstress of the moon? The misstress of the sun? Do the sun and moon fight each for earths love, for only one can be the favorite? Maybe because there is life on earth, the sun and moon fight for their attention? Was it a friendship of three all along? What are the other planets? Bystanders? This planet was not even earth, she realized. What was it called? How many other planets are in this solar system? Maybe they have life on them as well? Would they be favorites of the sun as well, if they had?
