IMOGEN'S POV
"The divorce?" Elijah said.
"The Divorce?" I shook my head. "You know damn well I'm not talking about the divorce."
My voice was barely above a whisper, but each word cut through the space between us like glass. "I'm talking about how horrible you treated me. How you tricked me into marriage knowing your heart was in another place. How you and Deborah tortured me as a new bride. How despite making the conscious choice to stay by my side, you still tormented me for it."
I took a breath, steadying myself. "The rape. Especially the rape. Or maybe when you killed Joseph's grandparents. You remember that too, don't you?"
Elijah's face didn't change. He looked at me with those dark eyes, the same ones that had once made me believe he could love me. "I'm sorry. What else do you want me to say?"
