IMOGEN'S POV
The door clicked shut behind Elijah, and I pressed my back against it, my heart hammering against my ribs. My lips still burned from his kiss, and I wiped them with the back of my hand, trying to erase the taste of him.
"Imogen?" Talia's voice came from down the hallway. I heard her footsteps approaching, soft on the hardwood floor. "Is everything okay? I heard the door."
I pushed myself away from the door and walked back into the living room, my legs still unsteady. Talia appeared in the doorway, her dark hair falling around her shoulders, concern written across her face.
"What did he say?" she asked, crossing the room to stand beside me.
I sank onto the couch, suddenly exhausted. The weight of everything that had just happened pressed down on me like a physical thing. "He wants to see Joseph. He thinks Joseph is his son."
Talia's eyes widened. "What did you tell him?"
