Although Alan and Stark weren't part of his original plan, Darren's heart had long been clouded by jealousy.
If only Hank Pym had been a bit smarter back then and handed over the genetic molecular formula of the Pym Particles, then today's Pym Technologies...
might've been even more famous than Stark Industries. Just thinking about that made the corners of Darren's mouth twitch into a twisted smile.
Now these two had shown up at his event and stolen the spotlight that should've belonged to him. Darren walked into the group surrounding the three of them,
as if trying to "rescue" Alan and his companions by dispersing the crowd of overzealous fans.
"Everyone, up next I have something to discuss with Dr. Pym and the others. There are drinks and refreshments over there — why don't you go grab a bite first?"
Hearing that Alan and Tony had other business, the fans nodded tactfully, though reluctantly, and began to disperse.
Some fans who didn't get the chance to take photos with Alan felt even more regretful. If they had known Alan and Tony would show up, they would've dressed up a little more glamorously to catch their attention.
Darren adjusted his tie and smiled at Hank Pym, "Please, Dr. Pym, Mr Alan, Mr Stark — I'm sure you're all curious…"
"Today, just for you, we're opening up a special preview — so you get to see it before anyone else: the pride of Pym Technologies!" Darren, clearly showing off, invited Alan and Tony Stark.
Alan and Tony exchanged a meaningful glance. It looked like Darren had something big planned for them.
They followed Darren through a hallway. When the security at the door pushed open a glass panel, it led into another sleek, glass-walled corridor.
As the three of them followed Darren into a heavily secured room, they noticed the entire door was sealed tight, without the slightest gap.
There was even a retinal scanner embedded in the door panel — a clear sign of Darren Cross's intense paranoia.
"Mr. Cross, this is impressive — you even need to scan an iris to get in?" Alan joked.
Darren shrugged with a smile: "Of course. For safety, I've prepared all kinds of security measures. Can't let anyone with bad intentions slip through…"
As Darren said this, his eyes slid toward Hank Pym, making Alan suspicious. There was no reason for Darren to know about Hank Pym's plans...
Could it be that today was the day he intended to make his move on Dr. Pym?
And now he'd also invited him and Tony along…
Alan sneered inwardly — it seemed Darren was planning to throw the blame on either him or Tony.
Otherwise, he wouldn't have recklessly invited two outsiders into the room.
A mechanical female voice rang out to authorize entry, and the lock clicked open slowly. Darren tilted his head, motioning for them to enter.
Sure enough, four bodyguards followed behind them. What came into Alan's view was the Wasp suit, suspended in the center of the room, securely locked in a 660-seal containment system.
He thought: _Scott should be making his move by now._
Tony had already given Jarvis instructions before coming in, and since Alan wasn't sure Jarvis could handle it alone, he'd even warned Red Queen to stay alert.
The décor of the room was, unsurprisingly, very hive-like.
"Look! That's the Wasp suit — Pym Technologies' greatest pride!"
Darren beamed with obsession, his eyes practically glued to the suit.
"Dr. Pym, aren't you impressed by my capabilities now? I've successfully uncovered your secret!" Darren's crazed gaze locked onto Hank Pym.
