Chapter 57 - Chapter 22 – Pet the New Pet

There were voices by the door. Dorin and Johan looked at each other when they heard the knocking.

"I'll get it." Said Dorin. He went to the front door, but before he could open it, he felt the beginnings of a spell.

Dorin stepped out of the way just as the door was blasted off its frame by a ball of crimson fire. It flew to the kitchen and struck the sink, sending a spray of water from a broken pipe. He Planted his feet squarely on the floor and stomped his right foot.

"You guys never give up, do you?" he said as he called upon the water from the broken pipes. The spray turned into a geyser and solidified into sharp blades of ice.

"It's an ice mage!" Dorin heard someone shout from outside. Another blast of fire shattered the ice blades. Dorin quickly gathered more water from the pipes and made a wall of thick clear ice to cover the entry way. He then walked in front of the door and looked outside.

Xander stood in the hallway, his two escorts standing in front of him, the medic by his side. They looked surprised when they saw Dorin and dropped their guards down.

"What do you want?" Dorin asked, but the ice was too thick to let sound through.

That was when Johan decided to take a peek.

"What?" he asked, "the idiot bunch again?"

They watched as Xander ran towards the ice wall and pointed excitedly at the dragon on his shoulder.

"What is that idiot prince saying?" Johan asked Dorin.

"I think he wants to pet your new pet," answered Dorin. "You think we should talk to them?"

"Nah, just ignore them." Johan started back to his room.

"We need to do something about the door, though."

Johan stopped at his tracks. "You think he could pay for my door as well?"

"Worth asking."

Johan went to the ice wall and touched it. His hand was shaking as steam rose from the area he touched.

"Need help?" Dorin asked.

"Damn holding charms..." Johan gasped.

The dragon on his shoulder rose, arched its back and sent a jet of purple flame towards the ice wall. The prince stepped out of the way, as well as his consorts. Dorin lifted a hand, guided the flame, and helped bore a hole through the thick wall.

"Okay, what do you want?" Dorin asked as soon as the hole reached the other side.

"Is that a dragon?" Xander cried excitedly, "That's a dragon, right? That's a golden breasted Czar dragon! It's been extinct for centuries!"

"Hey, you haven't answered our question..." said Johan sounding pissed.

"We felt some kind of commotion coming from up stairs and decided to check things out when no one came to the door I decided to blast it open to make sure you guys were okay can I see the dragon now?!" Xander said in one breath.

"No." Johan flatly refused.

"You broke our door." Dorin said.

"Don't worry, I'll pay for all the damages!" Xander sounded desperate.

"All of it?" Johan checked.

"Yes, all the damages!" Xander pleaded.

"Okay, come in," Dorin said.

"Thank you!" Xander cried happily. He placed a hand on the wall of ice, and immediately, the wall started to melt and vaporize.

Dorin and Johan did not look impressed. They stared instead at Venet who looked so smug, you would think it was him who melted the ice away.

"Xander can enter, but the rest stay behind." Johan suddenly said.

"Our prince never leaves without us!" Venet cried out in his shrill voice.

"It's ok, Venet, Boulvar, you may stay out here," said Xander.

"But your highness..."

"That is a command." The two attendants fell quiet. "But may I humbly request that my close aid, Mordecai come with me?" he asked Johan and Dorin.

"Sure, he's okay," said Dorin before Johan could react. "Come on in."

Xander gave a big smile and happily went to Johan's side. He was about 2 inches taller than Johan. He bent down a bit and stared at the small dragon.

"It's a beautiful specimen! The paintings from the archives are nothing compared to the real thing!" the dragon stared back at him sleepily. "Where did you get him?" He asked Johan who was starting to look pissed again.

"I found his egg in one of the mines," Johan mumbled.

"Oh, it's a boy?" Xander asked Johan with awe.

"Hell if I knew," Johan replied. "He just feels like a 'he' to me."

As Xander fussed over Johan and the baby dragon, Mordecai went to Dorin and apologized for the misunderstanding.

"We're sorry for the door," he told Dorin. "My liege could be quite reckless at times.

"Well, as long as you pay for it..." answered Dorin.

"What exactly happened here anyway?" Mordecai looked around the place and noticed someone white sitting on the floor.

It was a small, pale child clad in white sitting beside the prone body of Sebastian.

"We just had a little problem with the doors..." Dorin stood in front of him.

Mordecai craned his neck to take a second look and saw Sebastian with the caladrius by his side.

"What happened to that boy?" Mordecai asked, going past Dorin.

"Don't mind him, he's just sleeping," Dorin excused.

"The idiot couldn't hold his bee–" Johan said without thinking. It was too late when Dorin tried to shut him up.

"Oh, so you were drinking, huh?" Mordecai said with an evil grin. "Did you not know that underage drinking, in fact, drinking in particular, is forbidden in the dorms?"

"Who's gonna tell?" Johan said in a low, dark tone.

"Hey," Xander called from the hall where the bedrooms were. "How did you take the wall down, brick by brick?" he asked.

He had gone past Sebastian and was cradling Azra in his arms while he examined the ruined rooms.

"Who told you you can go there?" spat Johan who was surprised to see that the third prince was no longer by his side.

"So, why are the doors broken in all 3 of the bedrooms?" Xander ignored him. "Is this your room?" he entered Johan's room aside from the other's protests.

"Get out of my room!" Johan said angrily.

"Is this the shell?" Xander picked up pieces of reddish gold eggshells covered in scales. "Can I have a piece as a keepsake?" he asked.

"Do what you want, just get out of my room!" Johan finally yielded.

"It's quite small isn't it..." Xander said as he pocketed a piece. "And you were keeping it in a coffee tin can..." he pointed at a shattered can of coffee.

"What is it to you, where I kept him?" Johan went to his bedroom and shooed the prince out. "I said get out of my room!" he repeated.

"So, he burned the door to the room opposite..." Xander went on, "this must be Dorin's room... then the other room whose door was blasted from the inside must belong to Sebastian," he concluded.

Dorin was quiet. He stared at the prince who smiled at them innocently.

"How did you know...?" Johan asked, amused.

"Well, judging from the contents of the rooms, of course," Xander explained. "Your room is from where the fire came from. The Room opposite, whose door is quite none existent at this point, looks quite unkept..."

"Well excuse me~" Dorin said from behind him.

"Knowing Sebastian, he is the type who would keep things is order, though cluttered, possibly with books or other paraphernalia used for his studies," he went to the middle room and peeped inside, the broken door hanging outside the hall. "So, this must be Sebastian's room, since there are only 3 of you staying here, and the other room opposite which lost its wall is unoccupied."

"This one's quite drunk." Mordecai announced from beside Sebastian.

"Yes, I'm guessing he went on a rampage after getting drunk, broke out of his room, where Dorin tried to stop him, ending up with the wall collapsing, but he still made his way to Johan's room and broke the door." Xander added, "He was then greeted by the Czar dragon's flames and was just in time to duck – probably with Dorin's help." The prince smiled. "So, what did Johan do to get him that angry?"

"Is that what happened?" Johan whispered to Dorin.

"Nope." Dorin replied, his face blank. "The dragon broke the door."

"Sure, blame it on the dragon!" grumbled Johan.

"What I don't understand is, why the fire alarm didn't go off, and with all the commotion, why isn't the Dorm head here yet?" Mordecai said thoughtfully as he placed an unconscious Sebastian on the sofa.

Dorin and Johan went silent.

"There's your answer!" Xander said, pointing at a small black box at the corner of the kitchen as he balanced Azra on his arm. "Someone has been fiddling with the fire alarm!" he grinned, "And I bet there's a silent spell in this room as well," he looked at Dorin. "I was wondering why there was hardly any sound coming from your room while we were waiting outside your door. We clearly felt that tremor when Johan's door got blasted away!"

Dorin stared at Xander and still refused to speak.

"Wow, that's one offense after another..." said Mordecai, shaking his head. "Just what would Ms. Ermingard say if she found out about this?"

"They might even loose their 'special class' status for this..." Xander pipped in.

"Not just that," added Mordecai, "they might even get expelled!"

Johan looked worriedly at Dorin who's face was still unreadable.

"Okay, what do you want?" Dorin finally said.

"Can I visit you every now and then to meet the caladrius?" Xander blurted out fast. "And the Czar dragon too, of course!"

He looked happily at the two, who had no other choice but to Agree.
