Naturally, the others considered Cain part of Regi's group.
Half an hour later, nearly fifteen people had gathered at the spot.
Each of these individuals was listed in the information booklet Regi had given Cain.
Standing by Ren's side were five people. Including him, there were six in total.
On Regi's side, besides Cain, Glacius, and Aurelia, there were two individuals Cain didn't recognize, also totaling six.
There were three other individuals who had not joined any group.
It wasn't because they were particularly strong, but like Cain, they had just arrived in the forest and hadn't decided which side to join.
Kellogg, whom Cain had defeated earlier, was in a similar situation to these three.
"Just in time; thanks to all this commotion, everyone has gathered here," Regi commented after surveying the area.
Ren didn't argue with Regi this time. Nodding, he said, "There isn't much time left. Those who haven't arrived by now are probably no longer alive."
"Then let's discuss how we'll enter the ruins," Regi suggested.
Regi paused briefly and then addressed the three remaining individuals: "Hey, you three, interested in joining my team? You won't be sent to die. Just follow orders."
Ren also addressed them: "My offer is the same."
Moreover, the Flygon beside him flapped its wings, making its presence known.
Faced with this display, the three hesitant individuals quickly positioned themselves behind Ren.
"Tch! It's just a Flygon. What's so special about it that he's flaunting it like that?" Regi thought darkly.
Although the addition of those three people strengthened Ren's team, it also posed a risk, as it was hard to trust strangers who suddenly joined.
Under the guidance of Regi and Ren, the group began their march toward the ruins.
Cain, however, remained silent at the back of the group, observing his surroundings as if he were invisible.
When Regi appeared, Cain had already returned Slowking and the others to their Poké Balls, leaving only Gengar hidden in the shadows and Honchkrow, who followed closely.
They were now quite close to the entrance of the ruins.
Just as they were about to reach the entrance, Aurelia approached Cain.
The two had interacted briefly during the Trial Island, but Cain wasn't sure if she was sent by Regi or acting on her own initiative by informing him about the ruins.
Apparently, some people had entered before, but none had come out. No one knew what lay inside.
For this reason, Regi and Ren had decided to gather more people before venturing in, increasing their chances of success.
This led to the current situation. The commotion caused by Cain and Kellogg's battle had been the catalyst for all of this.
Cain hadn't prepared for this at all; he had suddenly become part of a team to explore the ruins.
...
In front of the ruins' entrance.
Although referred to as ruins, it was actually just a severely deteriorated ancient structure—an example of classic Pokémon world architecture.
However, that structure was merely a facade.
The true entrance to the ruins led underground.
Given Cain's personality, he would prefer to investigate before entering, but Regi and Ren clearly didn't want to waste time.
Perhaps they had been here before and conducted preliminary research, as they led their teams straight to the entrance.
Initially, the entrance was just an ordinary rocky cave with no light source.
But everyone in the group was skilled in survival and had lighting devices.
Cain, from the back of the group, held a professional exploration torch, observing Regi and Ren as they led the way. Something felt too easy to him.
So easy that, upon entering the ruins, they encountered no guardian Pokémon.
Even the Tree of Life, which had already been explored, had a maximum quasi-elite-level Lucario guarding it. But here, supposedly the home of Mew, there wasn't a single guardian?
Additionally, Regi and Ren moved with such determination, as if the paths around them were mere decorations and they knew exactly where to go.
It was as if... as if they knew their destination.
While the others were somewhat puzzled, they soon became engrossed in the murals on the walls.
These murals depicted many scenes from the ancient world and featured some Pokémon never seen before.
Cain also noticed Mew's figure among the murals, but from what they depicted, Mew seemed more like an observer of world events.
Whether it was battles, disasters, or bountiful harvests, Mew was always present as a spectator but never intervened.
It seemed to be a being isolated from the world.
Thus, the rest of the group focused intently on examining the murals, not questioning Regi and Ren's actions.
Only Cain, who was familiar with Mew, found the murals unremarkable, as he had a clear image of Mew in his mind even after having revived twice.
With lingering suspicion, Cain slipped into a side passage unnoticed.
He waited patiently in the passage for a while, allowing Gengar to follow the group so Cain could track their location through the marks it left.
Since the passage wasn't very wide and there were over a dozen people, each with one or two Pokémon, there wasn't enough confidence for everyone to stay too close to each other. This is why Cain's disappearance went unnoticed.
Except by Aurelia.
Not long after Cain slipped away, Aurelia noticed. However, she said nothing.
In fact, Aurelia, like Cain, was recruited by Regi later. Unlike Glacius, who had always been by Regi's side and trusted fully, she was often excluded from important decisions.
Always cautious, Aurelia found an opportunity to vanish down another passage.
The disappearance of one person might go unnoticed, but two wouldn't. Regi wasn't foolish and quickly realized what had happened.
However, he said nothing and continued advancing, only at a slightly faster pace.
Ren, who also noticed Regi's change, checked the situation behind them and frowned before quickening his pace to match Regi's.
A Gengar hid in the shadows, keeping a prudent distance from the group.
Meanwhile, Cain continued his slow advance.
