That evening, the sky was dim, holding onto the last glimmers of golden light. Alexis stood in front of the small mirror in her living room, adjusting her hair and checking her appearance. The light blue dress she wore fell just below her knees, not flashy, but graceful enough. She took a deep breath, trying to calm the strange turmoil in her chest. The sound of a car engine outside startled her slightly.
Tony, who was sitting in the living room reading the newspaper, looked up at the sound of a knock on the door.
"I'll get it," Alexis said quickly, walking toward the door.
When she opened it, William was standing there. His face was clean and neat, the bruise on his cheek nearly gone. He wore a white shirt with a light gray blazer, making him look more mature and distinguished. But his gaze remained the same, warm and full of admiration.
