Chapter 104: The Magical Fairy

"She can speak?!" Bella said with amazement as she stared at the flying tiny girl with wide eyes.

"Of course she can speak," James said with a tinge of annoyance at her shock. Why would he create a humanoid construct that was unable to speak? That would be a failure on his part.

"Is my name 'Of course she can speak,' Master?" the floating fairy asked.

"Why is she calling you 'Master'? Did you tell her to do that?" Bella threw an accusatory glare at him.

"No, that is not your name…" James gave Bella a signal to shut up before turning his attention back to his new creation. "Your name is Nyxaris."

"That's a strange name," Bella commented.

"It's the name of an ancient folklore character. The first one to be created was the Goddess of Light. And shortly after, her sister, the Goddess of Darkness, came into existence. She was the second one, and her name was Nyx."

"You put more thought into that one than with Primum," Bella pointed out.

"I don't play favorites, if that's what you're implying. I treat all of my creations with the care they deserve. I just had more time to think of a name this time around." James had a lot of pride in his work and all his creations, so he made sure they were all taken care of.

"Nyxaris…" she repeated. "Name acknowledged. I am Nyxaris, Master."

"She keeps calling you that," Bella said.

"I am her creator, after all. She's just being polite. I'm sure Primum would also call me that if it could speak. Now…" He turned his attention to the flying creature. "Nyxaris, were you able to analyze all the memories I gave you?"

"I did, Master," she immediately responded in a monotone way. There was little emotion in the way she spoke.

"How many spells have you learned?" James asked her.

"Six hundred and thirty-eight, Master."

"What?!" Bella turned to James. "Is she serious?"

"Why don't we put it to the test?" James suggested. "Let's go outside the briefcase."

Once outside, James guided them to the previous chamber. It was a bit narrow, but there was nothing of value that could break there.

"Bella, I assume you brought your wand?" James said.

Bellatrix pulled her wand out with a smooth move. "I never leave my room without it."

"Good. You're going to need it." James turned to Nyxaris.

"Hold, what?" Bella looked confused.

"Nyxaris, do you know what a magical spar is?" James asked, just to make sure.

"A light exchange between two opponents. No lethal spells are allowed. No highly damaging spells are allowed," Nyxaris responded.

"Good. You're going to have a spar with her." James pointed at Bella.

"Hey! I didn't agree to this." Bella glanced at Nyx. "You want me to throw spells at the little one? No way! I'll hurt her."

'Still sounds strange to hear Bella speak like that…' James thought.

"Don't worry about hurting the construct. Nyxaris is a lot stronger than you think, or at least she should be if everything went acording to plan, which is what I want to test."

James pointed at the fairy. "If we go by potency of magic, she has like ten times more than you. I just need to see if she can put all that power and knowledge into practice," James explained.

"You think that little newborn girl is stronger than me?" Bella raised an eyebrow. "Wow, you must really think little of me…"

James shrugged. "There's a quick way to prove me wrong." He waved his wand and placed some extra protection on the walls, just in case. "You can start whenever you wish. There will be no use of curses or any lethal hexes. And you will both stop when I say so. Is that understood?"

"Let's get this over with…" Bella rolled her eyes.

"Understood, Master," Nyxaris responded.

"Tsk… I don't like this. Okay…" Bella pointed her wand at the flying little creature. "Stupefy!" A blue spark of light emerged from her wand and traveled toward its target with perfect accuracy.

"Protego." Nyxaris lifted a hand in front of her and created a shield large enough to protect her entire body.

Bella's spell was successfully absorbed into the shield.

"She can actually use magic." Bella was honestly surprised. She thought that James was exaggerating, but it looked like he was telling the truth. The little construct could cast spells.

Although she still didn't believe that she had over six hundred spells in her arsenal. Not even the Headmaster may know that many.

"Keep going. Don't just use a single spell and stand there waiting. You should have already been preparing your second spell before the first one left your wand," James told Bella.

He was also taking this opportunity to see what this girl was capable of.

Dangerous times were approaching, and he wanted to make sure everyone was as ready as possible. This is why he asked Bella to test his creation instead of doing it himself.

"I know how to fight!" Bella gave her wand a flick, and two white ropes flew out of it. "Incarcerous!"

Nyxaris' wings began to glow brightly. She had used an enhancement charm to improve her speed.

Right before the ropes could touch her, she avoided them so fast that she almost went out of view.

Her little body hovered near the ceiling, and her hands performed several signs.

First, a blue spark appeared before her and was then launched at Bella.

"What the…" Bella stepped aside to dodge the stunning charm but was caught when a white rope entangled her leg. "When did she do that?!"

"She followed the stunner with an immobilizing charm, just like you did, but in quick succession," James explained. "Also… you already lost."

"What do yo—" Bella caught a glimpse of another flash of light, and then everything went dark.

"There was another stunner mixed with the 'Incarcerous'..." James added.

"Master, is the spar over?" Nyxaris asked. "Should I keep going?"

"Let's give her another chance, shall we? I think she was underestimating you a bit too much." James used his wand to remove the ropes and dispel the stun from Bella.

"What the bloody hell?!" Bella almost jumped from the spot. "What was that?" She looked around until she found Nyxaris, floating close to James.

"What happened is that you lost," James told her. "Try again, and pay more attention. Otherwise, this test will be useless."

"Hold on…" Bella said. "Give me some time to prepare."

"Nyxaris, round two," James said.

"Acknowledged… round two." The blue eyes of the fairy began to glow.
