Veronica's POV
At that instant, he turned on the lights and I was faced with a very angry alpha.
My legs quivered where I stood and I tried to make up words. Perhaps I should have told him before the leaving the house.
" I went to..." I was starting to say but my voice faltered and the anger in his eyes only seemed to deepen.
" Answer me!" He growled out at me.
" My husband he..." I started saying again, the tears beginning to spring up in my eyes.
" I hired you without knowing who you were. Are you a spy?" He asked and I felt my heart sink.
" What no, I would never do that!" I said in order to defend myself.
" Then why are you sneaking out at night? To feed my enemies information about me?" He asked again.
I could not understand why he was so paranoid, why he looked as though he was ready to bury me into the ground in that instant..
" No, I got a call from my bank saying my husband froze it. I went to meet up with him to ask why." I said.
His gaze seemed to soften as he took in my state. Dishevelled hair from pulling at it too much, tear stained face and shirt wet from the tears I had cried.
I did not know if he bought it or not but he moved closer to me, his breath tingling my face as he said to me slowly.
" I hope for your own sake that it is true. Because the last thing I would ever do is put my son in danger. " He said and with that, he ascended the stairs, taking it one at a time until his back disappeared into his room.
I could not sleep through out the whole night. My night was rigged with nightmares of my husband coming to snatch the child out of my womb, holding the bloodied baby as he laughed.
When finally it was morning, I could not be any more grateful.
I dashed out of bed, the nightmares still rigging my memory as I splashed the cold water on my face.
To my surprise, cade and his father were already up and all dressed for the day..
" You will be taking cade to school. I would have the driver drop you off." Alpha Lloyd said, his face void of the anger it has contained the night before.
As he made to leave, I followed him out, my heart beating with every step I took.
" Do you need anything?" He asked without turning to look at me.
I swallowed.
" Yes, I wanted to apologize for yesterday. I know I may have seemed like a tyrant to you for sneaking out of the house but I just wanted to correct the mistake and when he asked if we could meet, I was not thinking" I said.
He turned to face me now, his shoulder blades exquisite in the suit he wore.
" And did you fix it?" He asked, a hint of concern in his eyes.
I bit my lower lips as the events of the night before came floating into my brain.
" Not quite" I muttered out.
He seemed to nod, as though he understood what I said and then he turned, entering his car, casting one long look at me before finally saying.
" If you want help scaring him, I can ask a few of my friends to help out" he said and i was surprised.
I have a genuine smile as I looked at him.
" It's fine. I won't have anything to do with him again anyways" I said.
I watched him drive off before getting into the house to take cade to school.
That little conversation between the both of us began to make me think if the big bad alpha was not so bad after all.
His school was gigantic, the whole interior set for the students of the richest and I could see his face wrong uncomfortably as I looked at him.
" Hey Cade, I sure hope your mum shows up today!" One brown haired boy said, laughing as he ran along with the other kids.
Now I was concerned.
" What is happening today?" I asked him.
He seemed to contemplate telling me before finally saying,
" We have a meeting for both parents and teachers today. Everyone's mum would be here. But my mum hasn't showed up for months now..." He said, finally trailing off.
My heart ached as I looked at him. Who could abandon someone so cute?
Suddenly, an idea cropped up in my head.
" Would you like me to attend it for you? I can act as your mum and show those little kids who's boss" I said to him.
His eyes lit up instantly, as though I had just mentioned giving him cookies for the rest of his life.
He nodded his small head violently, his teeth peaking out as he looked at me and for the very first time, I saw him smile.
The meeting was bearable. Apart from the fact that all the parents gawked at me, as though asking themselves if I was really the wife of the famous alpha Lloyd, the rest of the event went smoothly.
" It's so good to finally get to meet you miss. Cade is such a perfect child, he does all his homework and he is also our top student. You must be so proud of him" his teacher said as I made to leave after it was over.
She was right. I was proud of him. I was proud of the fact that he was doing great irrespective of his mother.
When I finally picked him up in the evening, he had a beaming smile on his face and to my surprise, he rushed towards me, pulling me in a tight hug.
