William burst through the door of the Aclric's office, his chest rising and falling urgently.
The Aclric, seated behind his desk with one arm wrapped in bandages, looked up calmly despite the surprise. William's eyes immediately dropped to the injury.
"What happened?" William asked, voice tense with concern.
The Aclric waved it off with a slight grimace. "It's nothing serious. Just a little attack… the enemy tried to ambush me, that's all."
Before William could press further, the door creaked open behind him.
"Uncle Aclric," came a familiar voice.
William turned and froze.
Jonathan.
Jonathan stood at the threshold, hesitant but unharmed, holding a worn book. William's heart leapt. His eyes widened, a flicker of disbelief overtaking his expression.
"Lord William," Jonathan whispered.
William didn't hesitate. He rushed forward, wrapping his arms around Jonathan in a tight, desperate embrace.
