Three days had passed since Celeste dropped her bombshell.
Three days of silence.
Three days until the summit.
And still… no word about Mara's family.
I sat on the edge of my bed, fingers tapping nervously against my thigh. The weather outside was gray and cold, clouds thick like they were preparing to weep on our behalf. It mirrored the heaviness curling inside my chest.
I picked up my phone and sent another message to one of the search teams. Still no leads.
"How can they just disappear?" I muttered to myself. I turned, glancing toward the window. "They were innocent."
My thoughts bounced from Mara's family to Celeste. I hadn't heard a single thing from her since that day in her room. No calls. No messages.
She was supposed to talk to Orion.
Had she?
A tightness coiled in my stomach.
I grabbed my phone and pulled up her contact.
Me: Are you okay?
The screen barely dimmed before it lit up with a call from her.
Relief washed over me as I answered. "Celeste?"
