Chapter 69 - A Duskbane Bite

Sunlight streamed through the tall windows, pooling across the sheets in soft golden patches. I sat on the edge of the bed, lacing up my boots for absolutely no reason except to keep from looking at Kieran.

He was already dressed, standing near the vanity, watching me.

Like a hawk.

"You're sure she fell?" he asked again, for the thirteenth time.

I didn't look up. "That's what I said, isn't it?"

"And you just happened to push her. Near the stairs."

"I told you," I muttered. "We argued. It got out of hand. She slipped."

Silence.

His gaze was molten on my skin.

"You're lying."

My fingers paused, gripping the edge of the boot.

I looked up with the most exasperated face I could manage. "Kieran, please. Just let it go."

He didn't.

He stepped closer, kneeling in front of me. "If something happened—"

A knock interrupted whatever he was about to say.

"Alpha," came Callum's voice. "You're needed downstairs. Both of you."
