"Luna!"
Someone had yelled her name—urgent, panicked—but it was just noise. Luna didn't hear it, not really. Her ears were ringing with something louder than voices: rage.
Her heart pounded violently against her ribcage, and her eyes were stinging with unshed tears. Her breath came in short, erratic gasps.
She wasn't thinking. She couldn't think.
Her hand was wrapped tightly around Vaelen's throat, claws digging into his furred flesh. She didn't even remember when her nails had shifted, but they were sharper now—like blades forged from fury.
"What the hell are you doing? Let me go!" Vaelen's voice came out distorted, panicked, cracking between human and wolf. His paws clawed at her arm, but she only gripped tighter. His struggles weakened as a pitiful whimper escaped his throat.
She didn't let go.
