Chapter 90: The Convenience of a Privilege-Hound
Porygon was the very reason Yamcha dared to venture into the Digital World.
The Porygon2 released by Yamcha clearly loved the Digital World, floating effortlessly in the air.
Just as Yamcha had expected, describing Porygon2 in the Digital World as "a fish in water" couldn't be more accurate.
Compared to the original Porygon, Porygon2 had far superior download capabilities, and all its functions had been significantly enhanced—essentially a complete upgrade of the original.
That's precisely why Yamcha had made sure to evolve it before coming.
Everything was for the sake of caution.
"Can you gain higher-level permissions in this world?"
To put it bluntly, competing in raw power in the Digital World doesn't mean much. What truly matters is gaining access to the world's permissions.
Take Omegamon X, one of the strongest Digimon contenders—his strength lies in the top-tier permissions he possesses in this world, which could be considered god-like abilities, such as All Delete.
To explain it in layman's computer terms—it's like right-clicking a file and choosing "Delete."
Regardless of the enemy's level, it can be eliminated at the root. It's very similar to the "Destruction" ability used by the Gods of Destruction in the Dragon Ball universe.
Permissions are the true key to power in this world.
Porygon2 tilted its head and thought for a moment before nodding at Yamcha.
"How long will it take?"
Beep beep beep.
As it chirped, the words "3 days" appeared above Porygon2's head.
In the data world, Porygon2's abilities had been greatly enhanced.
Yamcha: "Then I'll meet you here in three days."
Porygon2 nodded, and its body gradually faded away.
Yamcha also promptly left the world—without Porygon2 by his side, he wouldn't linger in an unfamiliar place.
Three days later, same time, same place, Yamcha returned as promised. Porygon2 reappeared—though its appearance had changed slightly.
From its original red-and-blue design with red as the primary color, it had now shifted to a blue-and-pink scheme dominated by blue.
"Did it just become... Shiny?"
Yamcha studied the reskinned Porygon but couldn't find any differences beyond its color.
Upon seeing Yamcha, Porygon2 let out a series of strange sounds—like a mix of rapidly rewinding tape and electronic tones. If you slowed it down three times, you might barely make out traces of human language, but for now, it was completely incomprehensible.
Yamcha had no aura powers, so he couldn't communicate with Pokémon directly.
And unlike Mewtwo, Porygon2 didn't have telepathy for mental communication.
But this was just a minor issue for Yamcha.
He pulled out a universal capsule and took out the Translation Konjac again.
Although Porygon2 could manifest its speech as text, that method was just too slow for conversation.
After munching down the konjac in a few bites, Yamcha instantly understood what Porygon2 was trying to say.
At this point, Porygon2 had already obtained a small portion of the world's permissions. Only a small portion—because there's some unknown force within this world constantly suppressing it, preventing further access.
Even so, just that partial access was already enough for Yamcha to use effectively.
Two major permissions stood out:
Copy – This allowed Yamcha to use the powers of any Digimon he had seen, materializing them in card form.
It was similar to the third season's card-slashing system—except Yamcha could print cards on the spot.
Temporary Evolution – This simulated a virtual Holy Plan, granting Digimon temporary evolution. For now, the max limit was the Ultimate level.
It was like role-playing as a Digidestined—though Yamcha didn't have a Digimon partner yet.
There were also some smaller, more trivial permissions—but those weren't worth mentioning.
"Can you analyze that tower?"
In the second series, under the influence of the Dark Towers, Digimon couldn't evolve. That's a critical issue that had to be addressed.
Porygon2 nodded and zipped into the Dark Tower. Moments later, it popped back out.
"Now… unaffected."
Thanks to Porygon2's powerful data-analysis capabilities, the Dark Tower held no secrets.
Originally, Yamcha had planned to prepare three Porygons—one for copying, one for downloading, and one for analyzing. He just hadn't expected to come to the Digital World this early.
"Can you modify this kind of tower?"
"Affirmative."
With Porygon2's confirmation, Yamcha began forming a plan.
"Porygon2, can you investigate what's been summoning me here?"
Porygon2 nodded again.
"Can you determine its location?"
Another nod—then it turned to face a direction.
Judging by the geography, it was facing north.
"Distance: 50 kilometers, 356 meters, 20 centimeters."
Porygon2 gave an exact location, accurate to the centimeter.
Having a permission-hound companion made everything unbelievably convenient.
Now that he knew what he needed, things could move forward easily.
Yamcha headed north through the forest. Along the way, he saw several Digimon, but most were in training or rookie stages. The only champion-level one was Sukamon—completely useless.
Even though Sukamon's ultimate form, Etemon, had decent combat potential, there was no guarantee it would behave once evolved. And frankly, Yamcha wasn't about to walk around with a stinky poop monster following him.
He already had a candidate in mind for his temporary partner—it just wasn't the right time to go retrieve them.
The second series took place three years after the first. After the chaos caused by the Dark Masters, the Digital World had been devastated and was still recovering. That's why ultimate-level Digimon were rare—and mega-level ones were practically nonexistent.
On top of that, with Dark Towers spread around the world, most champion-level Digimon were being controlled and likely forced to work somewhere. The top-tier powerhouses were scarce, and the mid-tier ones were weak—making the second series the safest in the entire Digimon franchise.
After avoiding several dark-ring-controlled Kabuterimon scouts, Yamcha arrived at a seemingly small cave.
Inside it… was the thing that had summoned him.
"? Why is it this?"
