Chapter 38 - CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN

Tomorrow is Ericka's semestral break; she will begin to learn about her friend's discoveries and the reasons behind her silence.

She didn't tell her parents what she was going to do because she knew they wouldn't allow it, so she just told them she was going to her grandmother's house in a distant province.

She knew it was wrong to lie and that she would eventually get caught, but before she got caught, she needed to know the truth, including the truth about Fuego's life.

Tomorrow is her departure; she would rather no longer delay it. She just sighed as she lay down and stared at the ceiling in her room. She had been thinking for a long time about what she would do.

This is also for your peace, Jasmin. I won't allow you to become a lost soul. Ericka thought to herself.

She dozed off and needed to go to sleep so she could leave early. She has an acquaintance near the location where they camped for three days, which almost turned into a roller coaster of events.

During her nap, she experienced a vision that transported her to another place. Occasionally such an event happens to her; she just needs to stay calm with what it shows her.

Ericka saw the woman in a jacket digging; she was carrying a shovel and holding a knife. She was digging into the ground. She was hastening her movements as if she were fleeing from something. She saw that there was a woman with her who was also watching; their actions of digging and excavating were clearly hurried.

Suddenly, she found herself in a large mansion, where she saw a woman running and hiding behind the wide walls while a man brandished a gun.

She was then taken to the past, and she furrowed her brow because she was brought to Thalia's house. She saw two people come out, whom she guessed were Thalia's parents. A little girl came out, worried about her parents, and got into a car. She was surprised to find herself in the car with her parents.

She couldn't hear it, but they were having a serious conversation about whatever it was. In her hand, she saw a brown envelope; she didn't know what was inside it. She had a strong feeling that the content was related to the current events.

The vehicle suddenly stopped, the couple got out, and she couldn't get out of it at that time. There were many armed people around them who appeared to be shooting at them. The couple went back inside. A moment later, Ericka saw a blinding light; a ten-wheeler truck had hit the couple's car.

The collision threw the vehicle a considerable distance, and the spinning caused dizziness.

She realized she was standing on the road with a crowd of people gathering, and she quickly looked to see what it was.

She saw two people then, and she could only hold her chin. The accident that happened was gruesome; the faces were barely recognizable.

Ericka saw that the deaths of the two were intentional. She saw a police officer secretly taking a brown envelope from the vehicle crushed in the accident. She followed where and to whom the police officer would give the brown envelope.

A woman in her mid-30s, whom Ericka recognized, was Fuego's second wife and the stepmother, Ellese, at that time.

Ericka returned to the dense forest, where she saw Fuego's second wife digging; her movements were hurried, her hands bloodied as she used them to hasten her digging into the ground.

She kept digging and digging, and as she went deeper, she saw the brown envelope again, which was placed in a plastic envelope and wrapped in many layers of plastic for protection.

She immediately left after burying that brown envelope.

She was astounded by what she saw as the weather changed. It was the dream where a man in a black jacket was digging, holding a shovel, his hands covered in blood. She saw that the man had a bullet wound in his arm. She noticed a tiny box, which the man opened and placed a flash drive into. He quickly wrapped it in thick plastic and buried it in the ground.

After burying it, he walked away; he left the digging tools by a large tree where he had hidden them. Ericka heard a loud gunshot that woke her up.

She clutched her forehead. Ericka shakes her head at what she sees on her journey.

She couldn't fully comprehend that the parent of Thalia was involved.

Does Thalia know about this too? She wondered in her mind. She sat on her bed.

She is contemplating the various possibilities of what may have occurred in the past. She has so many questions in her mind.

Evidence, she thought to herself. Those could be possible pieces of evidence. Her discovery took her aback.

Who are the women digging there? Ericka suddenly gasped at the thought that it could possibly be her.

Maybe, Thalia? She managed to say it.

She had a hunch that their paths would cross again there with Thalia. She had a strong feeling that something unexpected would happen again.

She sighed, lay back down, and looked at her alarm clock. She needed to go back to sleep.

Her eyes didn't fail her, and she fell asleep without her ability bothering her. She suddenly woke up to the alarm clock on her table.

She needs to wake up and get ready.

She saw her parents hesitating, unsure whether to stop her from going to her grandmother's.

"Call me when you get there." That was her mother's reminder.

"Your grandparents don't know anything about gadgets yet; call them, child." Her father added.

Ericka only nodded in response. Her parents even accompanied her to the bus station, and she waited for them to leave.

Forgive me, Mom. Ericka thought to herself.

She took another bus that would take her to her destination. She immediately chatted with her acquaintance, who became her classmate when they were children, because she was also educated there in elementary school before moving to the city where she now lives.
