Stealing Hatake Kakashi's students made Sasame feel a little guilty.

But in reality, Kakashi didn't have much left to teach them.

In the original story, Uzumaki Naruto became Jiraiya's apprentice, while Uchiha Sasuke defected to Otogakure for training.

Hatake Kakashi was just an early-game tool.

If not for Uchiha Obito's gift of the Mangekyō Sharingan, he'd have been nothing more than a background character in the final arc.

Before long, all the graduates had assembled.

Mizuki began announcing the team assignments.

Hatake Kakashi quickly took charge of three background characters.

Though they looked excited, only Sasame knew they'd soon be sent back for remedial training.

After all, Kakashi-sensei was strict.

It wasn't until Team 7 that he truly became a full-time team leader.

Before that? Pure slacking.

"Team 9: Uzumaki Naruto."

Mizuki glanced at Naruto before continuing, "Uchiha Sasuke."

"Sasuke, let's work well together!"

Naruto grinned brightly.

He hadn't expected Namikaze Minato's words to come true—he really had been placed on the same team as Sasuke.

Uchiha Sasuke gave a slight nod, expressionless.

He was actually satisfied with this arrangement.

At the very least, he knew Naruto's strength meant he wouldn't be dragging the team down.

The thought irritated him, though.

Even after mastering Chidori, he still couldn't beat Naruto.

The idiot had somehow learned the Rasengan.

"And Hyūga Hinata."

Mizuki paused before announcing, "The three of you, step forward. Your team leader will be Lord Sasame."

"Big Bro?!"

Naruto's eyes lit up instantly. "Hell yeah!"

Hinata, having known in advance, remained calm—though she was just as happy inside.

Only Sasuke frowned.

Despite Sasame's rising reputation in recent years, he was still too young.

In Sasuke's eyes, he couldn't compare to Hatake Kakashi as an instructor.

At least Kakashi and he both had the Sharingan—there was a shared lineage there.

But Sasame? As far as he remembered, his specialty was Water Release, which clashed completely with Sasuke's Fire Release.

Still, his teammates weren't bad.

Expression unchanging, Sasuke stood and left his seat.

"Hey, wait up!"

Naruto hurried after him.

Hinata followed gracefully, her steps measured—until she caught sight of Sasame. Then, she couldn't help but quicken her pace.

[Due to your actions, the fates of Uzumaki Naruto, Uchiha Sasuke, Hyūga Hinata, Hatake Kakashi, and Haruno Sakura have been altered. You have earned a total of 370 Fate Points.]

As expected of the main cast.

Just recruiting them as students alone netted a decent amount of Fate Points.

"Follow me."

Sasame reached out and patted Hinata's head.

Naruto blinked.

He hadn't realized the two were so close.

But it wasn't a big deal.

"Long time no see, Big Bro!"

Naruto was as enthusiastic as ever.

"You should call me 'sensei' now."

Sasame corrected him.

Truthfully, he'd wanted to change Naruto's form of address for a while.

He preferred hearing cute girls call him "Big Bro"—like Hinata.

"Oh."

Naruto immediately switched. "Sasame-sensei!"

Sasame nodded, then turned to Sasuke.

The boy seemed reluctant.

Given his personality, Sasame could guess why.

Ah. He wants a good beating.

And Sasame was happy to oblige.

The four arrived at Training Ground 4, near the Forest of Death.

"Let's start with introductions."

Sasame clapped his hands. "I'm Sasame. I enjoy cooking, hate working, and my dream is to live freely. Oh, and I don't like cilantro."

"Me first!"

Naruto eagerly raised his hand.

"Go ahead."

Sasame gestured at him.

"I'm Uzumaki Naruto! I love Ichiraku Ramen—it's the best! I'll treat you all later!"

Naruto immediately went off-topic. "Especially the tonkotsu ramen. Absolute heaven!"

"Stay on track."

Sasame cut him off before he could ramble further.

If left unchecked, Naruto could probably talk about Ichiraku for hours.

Personally, Sasame found the ramen decent—but not "explode-your-clothes-off" levels of amazing.

"My dream is to become Hokage!"

Naruto clenched his fists. "I want to protect everyone!"

In the original timeline, this ambition was influenced by Sarutobi Hiruzen. Now, it was Minato's doing.

Ah, so you're the classic shōnen protagonist?

But if it was Naruto, it fit perfectly.

"Hinata."

Sasame called on her next.

"I'm Hyūga Hinata. I like…"

She glanced at Sasame. "Pressed flowers and chicken skewers. My dream is to become a strong kunoichi who can protect the people I care about."

Pressed flowers—or oshihana—involved preserving plants by drying and flattening them into decorative art.

This hobby was part of Hinata's original character setting.

And it hadn't changed here.

"Your turn, Sasuke!"

Naruto nudged him, curious.

"Uchiha Sasuke. No likes. Goal: kill a certain man."

Sasuke's introduction was brutally short.

That man was, of course, Uchiha Itachi.

The other three understood, so no one pressed further.

"Now that introductions are done, let's have a test."

Sasame smiled. "Since we don't know each other well, this'll help us bond."

"What kind of test?"

Naruto immediately raised his hand.

"Bell Capture."

Sasame shamelessly stole Kakashi's idea.

Not that it mattered—this was a tradition passed down among Hokage-lineage teachers.

As Tsunade's apprentice, he had every right to use it.

"I'll hang three bells on a tree. If you can take them, you pass."

He made it easier on purpose.

If the bells were on him, passing would be impossible—unless he went easy on them.

"What if we fail?"

Naruto zeroed in on the key question.

"Back to the Academy you go."

Sasame grinned. "So give it your all."

"Yes!"

Naruto and Hinata answered in unison.

Sasuke just nodded coolly, hands in his pockets.

"Memorize how the bells look."

Sasame held up three small bells, waited a moment, then tossed them onto a nearby tree branch.

"Can we start now?"

Sasuke eyed the bells impatiently.

"Hold on, Sasuke! We need a plan!"

Naruto grabbed his arm. "Sasame-sensei's strong. We can't just rush in."

Hinata nodded in agreement.

Of the three, she knew Sasame's strength best—she'd experienced it firsthand.

Naruto, meanwhile, had been informed by Kurama and Minato.

The dynamic felt off to Sasame.

In the original story, Naruto was the reckless one, while Sasuke was more composed.

But here, with Naruto stronger, he was the cautious one.

"Begin."

Sasame leapt onto a tree branch and pulled out a copy of Make-Out Paradise.

Say what you will, but the novel's popularity was well-earned.

In two words: it's realistic.

Jiraiya wrote from personal experience, giving Sasame a detailed education on red-light districts across the nations.

Though compared to his past life, the "techniques" were still a bit tame.

Sasuke acted first, hurling six kunai in a precise spread.

Sasame raised an eyebrow.

Shurikenjutsu?

But the kunai weren't aimed at him.

Using attached wires, Sasuke tried to slice the branch holding the bells, making them drop.

Sasame flicked a single kunai, intercepting all six midair.

Undeterred, Sasuke shot Naruto a look and formed hand signs.

"Fire Release: Phoenix Flower Jutsu!"

A barrage of fireballs shot forward.

Naruto vanished in a blur.

The flames bloomed like a fiery flower—

—only to be met by a towering wall of water.

Steam erupted from the collision.

Sasuke smirked.

This was exactly what he wanted.

With the Sharingan and Byakugan on their side, the mist was an advantage.

"Haaah!"

Dozens of Naruto clones charged through the fog.

Sasuke leapt toward the bells.

"Watch out!"

Hinata's Byakugan flared as she struck the air.

A shockwave of chakra shot forth.

Sasuke barely dodged as a massive, translucent palm slammed down where he'd been.

What the hell?!

He backflipped away.

The impact kicked up a dust cloud.

Sasame dispelled his partially expanded hand and blocked Hinata's next strike with his palm.

A faint numbness spread through his arm.

"Not bad."

He gave her an approving look, making her blush.

"Sasame-sensei!"

Another wave of Naruto clones rushed in, attacking wildly.

No technique—just sheer numbers.

Sasame stood his ground, knocking them aside one by one.

Then, his fist was caught.

The clone in front of him morphed into Sasuke, his two-tomoe Sharingan spinning.

A genjutsu took hold.

Sasame froze—just long enough for Naruto's real body to land a solid punch.

"Huh?!"

Naruto stared in disbelief.

He hadn't expected that to work.

"Fall back!"

Hinata dashed forward, chakra swirling around her hands into twin lion heads.

Though Sasame had suggested long-range attacks, she'd prioritized mastering the Gentle Fist.

Naruto obeyed instantly, retreating.

Sasuke, however, hesitated.

In his mind, even a jōnin wouldn't break his Sharingan genjutso so easily.

Then, the "Sasame" he'd punched melted into a puddle.

His eyes widened.

"Water Release: Water Dragon Jutsu!"

A roaring dragon of water surged toward him.

Hinata lashed out with her lions—

—but the dragon curved over her, slamming into Sasuke and sweeping him away.

"Sasuke!"

Naruto's clones scrambled to catch him, popping one after another from the force.

The real Naruto barely managed to grab him, but both were drenched.

Sasame ignored them, appearing in front of Hinata.

He grabbed her wrists, cutting off her chakra flow.

The lion heads flickered out.

Hinata reacted instantly—a sharp kick aimed at his ribs.

"Good."

Sasame released her wrists and caught her ankle.

He'd worried she'd hold back against him, but she wasn't pulling punches.

"Gentle Fist: Thirty-Two Palms!"

Hinata shifted stance, her hands a blur of precise strikes.

"Naruto!"

Sasuke shoved Naruto toward the tree. "Get the bells!"

Then, he charged at Sasame, hands flashing through signs.

A screeching chorus of birds filled the air.

Lightning gathered in his palm as he gripped his wrist.

Sasame glanced up—

—and Sasuke's world spun.

When his vision cleared, Uchiha Itachi stood before him.

His breath hitched.

Without thinking, he thrust his Chidori forward—

—only to realize, seconds later, he'd just impaled a tree.

Genjutsu.

"Sasuke, what the hell?!"

Naruto had nearly reached the bells when Sasuke suddenly turned and bisected the tree.

The trunk toppled.

Sasame disengaged from Hinata and flicked a kunai, knocking the bells safely to the ground.

Sasuke's eye twitched, his expression dark.

He'd been caught in a genjutsu that easily?

Unthinkable.

The Uchiha were masters of illusion.

Most shinobi avoided eye contact with them for that very reason.

Yet he had fallen victim so effortlessly.

"Watch for genjutsu."

Sasuke gritted out.

"I'll cover you!"

Naruto understood immediately—but fear wasn't in his nature.

"Multi-Shadow Clone Jutsu!"

The training ground was flooded with Narutos.

Sasame almost laughed.

"Surrender. You're surrounded by Naruto."

The kid had chakra to burn.

"Konoha Whirlwind!"

Every clone spun like a top, a chaotic tornado of orange.

Sasuke's eyes widened.

Damn it, Naruto…

Brute force? Yes.

But effective.

Genjutsu typically required eye contact—and with this many eyes, Sasame couldn't possibly pinpoint the real one.

Sasuke transformed into a clone and blended into the swarm.

Hinata, using her Byakugan, located the bells and sprinted for them.

She knew no attack would work on Sasame.

As she grabbed a bell, a tsunami of water crashed down, flooding the area.

Pop! Pop! Pop!

Naruto's clones vanished in droves.

Soon, only he and Sasuke remained—gasping and coughing up water.

"Congratulations. You passed."

Sasame clapped as Hinata waved the bell cheerfully.

Sasuke and Naruto were too busy vomiting river water to respond.
