Chapter 26 - Employing the Clefairies

A few Clefairies still remained calm.

They looked at the kindhearted human before them and asked, "Clefairy?"

What exactly would they be expected to do?

Carver didn't understand Pokémon language, but Bewear stepped in to answer on his behalf.

"Grroo... grooo!" (The jobs are easy—cleaning, preparing food, gathering herbs, and feeding the other Pokémon in the daycare!)

"Clefairy..."

That sounded like a lot, but if everyone took on one task, it didn't seem so overwhelming!

"Clefairy!"

Having no other options, the Clefairies decisively agreed.

But they had one condition: their spaceship had to come with them!

If they left it behind, someone might steal it!

Seeing them circle around the spaceship, Carver paused. "You mean... you want to take the spaceship with you?"

"Clefairy!" The Clefairies nodded vigorously.

Carver: "…"

Well, it was possible, but the thing was enormous—he wouldn't be able to move it even if he wanted to!

Sensing his thoughts, Bewear suddenly stepped forward.

Before their stunned eyes, it reached under the ship, gave a powerful heave—and lifted the entire spacecraft overhead.

Clefairies: "!!!"

Carver: "!!!"

Growlithe: "Woof woof woof!" (Amazing!)

With a mighty leap, Bewear launched itself—and the ship—out of the top of Meteor Falls and disappeared from sight.

A second later, it returned, grabbed Carver and Growlithe under each arm, and jumped again—bringing them outside in a flash.

Carver felt the world spin. When he opened his eyes again, they were already at the entrance of the cave.

And the spaceship… was sitting right there beside them.

Bewear wasn't done. With a few more trips, it brought all the Clefairies outside too.

Carver: "…"

His Bewear was starting to show the power of a Tapu Bulu.

With their goal accomplished, it was time to return to the daycare.

As Bewear carried the ship, something fell out of it.

Carver looked over and saw several glowing stones scattered across the ground.

"These are…"

The Clefairies gathered around, joyfully picking up the stones. "Clefairy~!"

They explained these were decorative stones from the ship.

Carver didn't need them to say it—he could already see the system message:

Meteorite: A cosmic rock radiating with tremendous energy. Rare on Earth and warm to the touch. Emits a prismatic glow. A valuable artifact with potential unknown uses.

There were six such stones.

Carver's expression grew odd.

These stones… weren't they the same kind of meteorites used by Team Magma in the story arc involving Mt. Chimney and Groudon?

"You'd better hold on to these," Carver told the Clefairies.

But the one he had rescued happily ran over and handed one of the stones to him.

Carver blinked. "For me?"

"Clefairy!" It nodded excitedly.

To this Clefairy, the stone was just a common rock. Back on their home planet, they were everywhere!

This human had saved it from that scary monster—he should have it.

Seeing this, the other Clefairies happily tossed their "useless" decorative stones to Carver as well.

Carver: "…"

He had no doubt that if he hadn't taken them, they'd have tossed them by the roadside.

He packed up the stones, cleared his throat, and addressed the group: "Alright—let's head back first!"

Meteor Falls wasn't close to the daycare. Walking would take most of the day.

Carver was carried here by Bewear, but now Bewear was busy hauling the spaceship.

They had no choice but to walk.

Worried Bewear might get tired, Carver made sure they stopped frequently to rest.

They passed a few trainers along the way—each one gawked at the bizarre sight of a man, a bear, a group of pink aliens, and a flying saucer.

By the time they reached the daycare, it was already 2 PM.

Following Carver's instructions, Bewear set the spaceship in an open patch of the backyard.

It would be repurposed as the Clefairies' Cosmic Playground.

The ship provided shelter, scenery, and sleeping quarters—a perfect multipurpose facility.

"All done!"

Clapping his hands, Carver turned to the Clefairies.

"This is the daycare, our home. You'll stay here for now, fix the ship, and collect Moon Stones. Bewear and I will help with that. But first—I need to prepare lunch. Bewear, Growlithe, help the Clefairies get familiar with the place."

"Grooo~"

"Woof woof!"

The Clefairies, ever the cheerful bunch, didn't seem shy at all.

Though it was their first time here, they eagerly explored everything.

With Bewear and Growlithe as their guides, they began getting used to their new home.

Carver returned to the kitchen to prepare food.

Before he began, he scribbled a new message on the signboard outside:

Buying Moon Stones in Bulk!

The Clefairies had agreed to work in exchange for food and Moon Stones.

It was an employment deal.

Now, as the boss, Carver began thinking about which roles the Clefairies might fit.

Chef Clefairy, Mechanic Clefairy, Engineer Clefairy, Cleaner Clefairy, Harvester Clefairy, Caretaker Clefairy, Nurse Clefairy, Waiter Clefairy...

The jobs were complex, but Pokémon were highly adaptable.

Just look at the Nurse Clefables working in Pokémon Centers.

Carver believed that with proper training, the Clefairies would thrive in the daycare's work—and life.
